Awful, just awful.

re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
How the hell were they on the same track?

re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
Just a quick update, unfortunately there are 4 fatalities and close to 100 injured (about 50 people with light injuries, two with life threatening injuries). They are still searching to make sure there is no one left in the trains.
My thoughts and prayers with those who have been affected by this. |
re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
This actually took place at the station that I live near (Fort Totten) I live walking distance from the station and didn't even know it happened.
There are planes flying everywhere, just happened to turn on CNN and what do ya know. You'd think you'd hear something like two trains running into each other. But we didn't even realize. Hopefully the causality rate will remain low. |

The numbers of deceased are unfortunately increasing.

Re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
Apparently one train plowed into another that was stopped. The FBI is on the scene as well. This sucks.

They were both headed Southbound towards DC on the Red Line. One was stopped at the station waiting for the track ahead to clear, while the other one was coming into the station. Supposedly all the trains were supposed to be on automatic, and being run by a central computer, which is very common. So you begin to wonder if the train coming into the station was somehow taken off automatic... Very sad situation. I believe the casualty count is up to 9, with at least 76 injured. Re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
This is pathetic
The Associated Press: NTSB: Train in crash was recommended for phaseout It's bad enough that the escalators at the Metros are hardly ever working or that the Metro officials working at the "gate" are generally rude and unhelpful...but this is ridiculous. |

The Friendship Heights metro stop (red line) is about 3 blocks from the house I grew up in, and I swear at least one of their three escalators was ALWAYS out of service. I took the metro to and from high school almost every day my freshman and sophomore years with a couple of friends/classmatees who lived nearby. The same guy was always working the gate, and I swear that dude hated the world. |
Re: Metro Trains Collide in DC; Multiple Fatalities Reported
My wife rides the Redline in and out of DC everyday. Yesterday I got about 5 phone calls right after work from friends asking if my wife was ok. Fortunately, she heads north and not south after work, and she left work an hour later yesterday. She didn't get home until 8PM because of the crash, but at least she is safe.
It sucks that anyone had to die like that, but at least the death toll is as small as it is. My condolences go out to anyone who lost a loved one or who had a loved one injured in this catastrophe. |

Train stations, bus stations, DMV, etc Horrible news though, didn't even hear about this yesterday, pretty surprised about that. |
