Riggo is correct, VC had not done anything until Gibbs & Co. showed up. VC does the leg-work and briefs Gibbs about players then does what Gibbs tells him to do.

Vinny has been Dannys yes man since Danny bought the team, except for the year Marty fired him. He puts together packages of free agents and restricted free agents, potential draft picks. that is pretty much it. He may get in a help negotiate a contract. He is pretty much one of those guys that just gets a job because he is friends with the boss

I agree with Riggo's comment, but I don't think the Skins are trusting him to do much more than order lunch as it is. So it's a non-issue to me.

I think what happened is a caller mentioned his name as a possibility for a GM spot on their team (came in part way through the call) and they were cracking on him when that was suggested.

I think whether you show him the door or not, it won't make a bit of difference. All of the Skins' acquisitions since Gibbs came back (with the exception of Mike Barrow) have worked out marvelously. If Vinny's scouting reports are helping Gibbs make the right calls, I don't think you get rid of Vinny, because so far with the people we have, it is working.

You could probably just get some other monkey to come in and do the same thing Vinny is doing. He's not a very important person to the Redskins franchise, he provides the scouting reports, which lots of guys could do just fine. Gibbs and Williams are making the decisions, and they're doing fine with the info Vinny is feeding them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

VC coordinates the entire scouting logistics during the entire year. Rather than hassle our beloved coach with having to coordinate whose going to check Jimmy Joe Bob at Butt Scratch U this weekedn he can gameplan while Vinny figures out how to best use our scouting resources and then how to assimilate the data retrieved. No he isn't the GM but I think what he does has a lot of value. I bet Gibbs would say what Vinny does is actually invaluable.

I agree. John Riggins was my absolute favorite player growing up. But I haven't heard him say anything positive about the Redskins in a long long time. I really don't know why he is so bitter. But I do know I really don't care what John Riggins has to say anymore.

True. But when I was in D.C last year for the Cowboys game all I remember Riggins saying is how tired Gibbs looked. And he was so concerned that he couldn't make it through the season. And that was in like week 3! He's just rubbed me the wrong way the last few times I have heard or read His quotes. I still love the guy as a Redskin. As you might have noticed with my Screen name. I Just think he sucks as a commentator.

Riggins is just one of those guys that he says what he feels whether its good or bad. He was like that as a player and is definately like that now. I think its refreshing to have someone who is a skins fan but doesn't drink the cool aid until its coming out their ears. Personally, I think he doesn't like Danny Boy or Vinny, which leads to some of comments.

In the one year he was fired and Marty took over we all remember the excellent personel decisions that were made then, who can forget the perenial pro bowler Kevin Locket or indead the waste of space players he ditched like the last Dlineman to get over 10 sacks in a year (Marco Coleman), or oneof the best pass catching FBs in the game (Larry Centers) but he did better in the draft though picking up Rod Gardner, Fred Smoot, Sage Rosenfals, Mario Monds and Danerian Macants, none of which are with the team and I think only Sage is actually on an active roster .

In fact, from those 1999-2001 drafts, the Eagles currently have McNabb, injured wideout Todd Pinkston (second round, 2000) and injured running back Correll Buckhalter (fourth round, 2001). In a league where success flows from good drafting, the picks from those years should be forming the team's foundation right now, its nexus of late-20s players in their primes. And all that remains from the 2003 draft are injured defensive end Jerome McDougle (first round), tight end L.J. Smith (second round) and wideout Billy McMullen (third round).

I think you're giving way too much credit to Vinny for any of our "misses" over the last few years.

Yes he's been part of the process but when Marty took over he canned Vinny and Marty alone was responsible for personnel. So if you don't like that year's crop of talent there's only Marty to blame.
