Redskins Free Agents
Ryan Clark
Demetric Evans Rock Cartwright Robert Royal Ethan Albright Warrick Holdman Omar Stoutmire Chris Clemons Khary Campbell Ade Jimoh Cedric Killings Brian Kozlowski Aki Jones Should be interesting to see what some of these guys cost us to resign. Clark would likely fetch $1-$2 million per season. I'd like to keep D Evans, he makes for a very solid 3rd DE. Albright is a must to resign, he's a good long snapper, didn't make one mistake all year long. Chris Clemons is key for 3rd down pass-rushing, Campbell and Jimoh are great special teamers, and Omar Stoutmire played pretty well down the stretch. Killings was a solid 3rd DT too. We should be able to create enough cap room to keep the guys we want from this list. But who would you want to see stay, and who should go? |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Albright is loyal too i can see him resigning his usual 1-2 year contract as long as he wants to keep playing . Othe than that Clark is a must but there may be upgrades to be had there. As for the others I would like Evens, Clemons, Killings, Jimoh Cambell and Jones as a prospect to return . The rest I would be happy to see back but not cut up if they wanted to go else where or if the team thinks they could get better and younger with their roster space .
Just a thought |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Because of the trade to bring in Jason Campbell, we're without a #1 pick this year. That's going to mean that we'll likely retain a lot of our current special teamers, because there will be less "young" talent on the team. Holdman, Clark, and Cartwright may get offers to play elsewhere, but none of the other players showed enough on the field to get pllaged.
Another reason we may keep our free agents is that (yet again) we'll keep most of our assistants - if not all of them. One of the ways depth moves around in this league is that, for example, the linebackers coach gets a coordinator position elsewhere. He pillages his old team for good effort players that know his system (see the Bengals defense and the ex-Skins that Lewis grabbed). Our guys are all getting paid, and will likely stick around. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Why isn't Cory Raymer on the list? If not he will be cut.
I think we let go the following players: Patrick Ramsey Taylor Jacobs James Farris Cory Raymer Pierson Prioleau Ray Brown (retired) James Thrash Antonio Brown Ladell Betts Matt Bowen Walt Harris Robert Royal John Hall and of course Lavar Arrington if he doesn't renegotiate his contract. My immediate picks in the FA pool are: RECEIVERS Antwaan Randle-El Brandon Llyod Eric Moulds DEFENSIVE END John Abraham Lets see in the off-season if RB Manuel White and Nehemiah Broughton can boost our running game. If not let them go and find us a good RB in the draft. |

Moulds would be great if he would accept being a #2, Lloyd is good, I'm partial to David Givens as well.. I don't think we have the $$ to get Abraham without some serious renegotiation of some contracts.. |

Like you I love Ladell Betts but when we really needed him for the last two weeks he was a dissappoint. His injuries have been a constent problem and I don't think we need him considering Nehemiah Broughton and Manuel White should be back. I agree with you about Abraham. I didn't know about Givens and if Randle El is a true 3# we need him deseperately on kickoffs and/or punt returns. I almost forgot to put John Hall on the list. Why did we cut Nick Novak? |

Ryan Clark - keeper
Demetric Evans - keeper Rock Cartwright - keeper if we have enough space left Robert Royal - not sure Ethan Albright - keeper Warrick Holdman - looking doubtful Omar Stoutmire - not sure Chris Clemons - keeper Khary Campbell - not sure Ade Jimoh - keeper Cedric Killings - keeper if we have enough space left Brian Kozlowski - looking doubtful Aki Jones - looking doubtful |

I like the 3 headed monster of Portis, Betts and Cartwright.. With the exception of the killer fumble against the Chiefs, Rock played really well this year.. I don't know if Nemo (who had fumbling problems in the preseason) or Manny White will be an upgrade over Betts.. Randle-El struggled this season as a #2 opposite Ward.. He'd be an upgrade over our return units (VASTLY needed) but I don't know if they'll bring him in just for that. I like Givens because he's big, fast and coming from the Pats is a winner.. |

I think you are right on with Givens, he would be a perfect fit and I would love to see him in Burgundy and Gold. I also agree on Randle El, he is an explosive returner, but - and I haven't seen many Pittsburgh games - he is little more than a #3 receiver. He only had 35 catches for about 550 yds this season and I realize he is in an offense that runs a ton but the Redskins need a bigger target that can provide another threat in the red zone. Randle El is just a poor man's Santana, that isn't what we need. Don't forget that Reggie Wayne might also be available, though he would probably be more costly than Givens. He and Santana were teammates at Miami, though, so that might be a fun (if unlikely) reunion. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Clark, Evans, Clemmons, Royal, Albright, and a guy who gets a lot of flack on here Jimoh are the players out of there that the skins will try the most to resign. There is definitely gonna be some roster fluxuation to get some younger, speedy guys who will be special teamers first other than the potential signing of a new de and starting wr. when does free agency begin again? is it march1st or 2nd?

Re: Redskins Free Agents
Why isn't Cory Raymer on the list? If not he will be cut.
When I started the thread I was really driving at the players who are now free agents from the Skins. Raymer is under contract for next year, but you're right, he's a likely cut for salary cap purposes. These are the guys I'd expect to at least get consideration for being cut or traded: Patrick Ramsey - saves $2.1 million Brandon Noble - saves $1.7 million Walt Harris - saves $2.0 million Matt Bowen - saves $2.0 million Cory Raymer - saves $1.0 million Taylor Jacobs - saves $100,000, maybe worth keeping him as a project? but he sucks. see, he doesn't even help us by getting cut, he's TOTALLY worthless! Derrick Frost - saves $450,000 Antonio Brown - saves $450,000 Lavar Arrington - trading or cutting him after June 1 saves $7 million in 2006 cap room, but we'd carry $6.5 million in deadcap money in 2007. Some of those guys I'd consider certain to be gone, like Noble, Raymer, and Harris. Probably Bowen too. Lavar and Ramsey will get real interesting, though. |

your on to something there. reggie wayne will be a free agent and the colts will also need to try to resign edgerin james so it's possible they don't resign wayne. i think wayne would be a good fit for the skins. |

Reggie Wayne,... big fan of Jimmy Smith....I know no one wants to hear this but.....T.O. thats right he's on his last chance oppurtunity...so he will be a good T.O...... John Abraham at DE....yes or maybe Mathis from the Colts.......Hutchingtson from the Seahawks......and were a Favorite to win it all next year....... |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
i don't think getting t.o is even a possibility, just for the fact that joe gibbs would not want him. nor would 95% of us skins fans.

Re: Redskins Free Agents
Reggie Wayne would make a great #2, Ike Hilliard is also available but he's getting up there in age isn't he? Regardless, top priority goes to resigning Ade!

KEEPERS
Ryan Clark Demetric Evans Rock Cartwright Robert Royal Ethan Albright Chris Clemons Khary Campbell Ade Jimoh GONE Warrick Holdman Omar Stoutmire Cedric Killings Brian Kozlowski Aki Jones NEEDS #3, 4 wideouts #1 tight end #3 corner backup o and dlinemen Punter Kicker We don't need any big name pickups. I think we can pick up a few relatively unheard of guys and use our draft picks to fulfill our needs. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
Man, was Holdman a bust or what?

Re: Redskins Free Agents
Man, was Holdman a bust or what?
I wouldn't really consider him a bust since he was brought in on a one-year deal and we didn't pay him much. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
keeping PP and Omar is a good idea, they're cheap depth.
Abraham is a bad idea, expensive and character issues (taking himself out of game when healthy, saying "let the bidding begin" etc, no thanks.) I also don't like lloyd which a lot of people seem hot on. he makes some circus catches, yes, but he short arms a ton of balls too (and our experiences with inconsistant WRs isn't that great). I'd re-sign clark first unless a surprise SS comes up... he's the only FA that'll get any interest. ditch jacobs, holdman, koz (he doesn't play), and aki... consider ditching albright (to save a roster space, his vet min is pretty high now). a brown and r royal are possible cuts too, but they're very very cheap warm bodies. |

Re: Redskins Free Agents
There is no knowing where Patten could come bak into the mix or indeed I see no reason to give up on Jacobs just yet, he was a second round slider but we may be able to use him and it wouldnt hurt the cap .
I think John Hall is done he is loosing his leg and confidence we need a new kicker and maybe Novack will be available again . Frost started getting better the end of the year but has bad patches and a hell of a temper could be in for a kicking comptetition. LaVar stays all water under the bridge and he would cripple our cap situation. I also believe the bonus he is due next is pro-ratable over the length of hs existing contract . That will bring his cap number down significantly but there is a provisio in this that he doesn't go off runninghis mouth about the team . Talk of getting the likes of Wayne, Molds, Randell El and Givens may be a little far fetched given our cap situation same with Abraham . I beleive what we will be looking for is FA steals from teams with no patience or money like M Washington from the Colts. Mathis is a possibility but he could be expensive. There is one thing though with the potential cuts and a little re-organisation I think we could be in realtivly goodshape cap wise this year . |
Re: Redskins Free Agents
I think we sign one big FA this offseason-- either a WR or DE. Then we sign some up-and-coming players and take our chances in the draft. We need to draft some linemen in the draft.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents
I'm not really sure why we're clamoring for a DE quite so much. Phillip Daniels was a one-man wrecking crew coming down the home stretch, he should not go under-appreciated.
Reynaldo Wynn is a great run stopper, an excellent influence in the locker room, and one of the emotional leaders of the defense. I'd resign Demetric Evans as the 3rd DE, and let this current crew stay together. Considering the state our our offensive line depth, I think that needs to be priority #1A, with priority #1 a good WR to put opposite Santana Moss. Though the WR should come via free agency, IMO. |

So lavar, bowen (if clark doesn't get a big FA contract), ramsey, and hall may all be cuts to keep us under cap. I honestly don't think we're going to make any big deals this off season unless its in a player trade (which with lavar's contract seems highly unlikely). |

Hopefully we'll keep him. For some reason I think Robert Royal could have a career year next year. I think he's a keeper. WR is the biggest need, IMO. I like Reggie Wayne, but I'm not sure for the kinda of money he would command. And frankly, I know this may sound absurd, but I wonder how much of his production was a function of the system and playing with that great offense? I bet Portis and Moss are in Gibbs ear on this one to keep the "U" movement alive and well at Redskins' park. |
