Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I love moss, and I'm elated he's on our team, but steve smith is the man,the panthers other wr's sucked as bad as ours and he still couldnt be shut down, especially in the playoffs, plus he's the punt returner,so I have 4 questions
1.who would you rather have, moss or smith? 2.is smith better because delholmme is better than brunell? 3.why wont gibbs let star players return kicks? smith is considered the nfl's best rec this yr,but he's still returning kicks, other teams have their stars return kicks, gibbs didnt even have moss return punts in the playoffs even after browns fumble,i know it's because he doesnt want to risk injury, but i cannot remeber the last time i saw a kr get seriously injured 4.should moss return kicks? |

I never liked him before. I used to hate the fact that he would celebrate all the time like he was the best WR ever. That said, having watched him this year, he totally changed my perception of him. I think that Steve Smith is the best wide receiver in the NFL. 1. Who would I rather have? Well, I think they're both great NFL receivers and since Moss is already here, I'd go Santana. 2. I don't think that Delhomme is better than Brunell because Jake Delhomme is a lot like a young Jake Plummer. When Delhomme has his A game he's a pretty good QB, but when he has off days (more than 1 or 2 a year) he is horrendous. 3. I think that Gibbs just doesn't have Santana take kicks back for exactly the reason you said, he doesn't want to risk injury to Santana. 4. I don't think that Moss should be returning punts. I think that we should get a young #3/#4 receiver to come in and do that. Or we could use a young CB if we needed to, but I just don't like the idea of having superstar players return punts. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
smith has better recievers on the other side and delhomme is much better than brunell.
smiths numbers are higher cause they throw like 8 screens to him every game and run at least 2-3 WR reverses a game as well. They make sure he gets the ball no matter what... gibbs didn't really do that. Moss only got stopped on one screen all season i think, the rest got him 8+ yards every time. |

Can I have both?

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I think Smith is tougher (be it mentally or physically), but other than that, it's a push.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
steve smith is very good but santana has done nothing to make me want any other wr over him. keep santana and get a better 2nd wr.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I would take Santana all the way. Smith is a cocky little man (too cocky). I don't take anything away from his talent. He definately is one of the best WR playing right now. I think Moss would have had just as good a year as Smith if he was in the Panther's system. The Panther's seem to take more chances throwing to Smith even when he is covered than the Skins do throwing to Santana. I believe if we would have given Santana more chances to go up and catch it even in coverage he would have come up with the ball more times than not. Gibb's system is not built around taking chances like Fox's.
GO SKINS!! |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I don't know Steve Smith is ridicoulous. I live in South Georgia right now and for some reason I got to watch about 75% of the Panthers games (less than 25% of the Redskins game). Anyway what I noticed is when Jake Delhome throws to him he doesn't even try to fool the defense. Instead he turns his body directly towards Smith eyeing him the whole play, and Smith still makes the catch.
However I would like to reserve judgement on whos better than who when I see Moss with a #2 guy and maybe either a more aggresive Mark Brunell or a young and eager Campbell. And considering that Moss finished less than 100 yards behind Smith (in the regular season, unfortunatly the playoffs were a different story) I'm inclined to think that Moss might be better. Either way very tough call Food for thought: (If the Redskins hadn't lost to the Seahawks than we might have never landed Saunders, in turn changing the entire outlook of the 2006 season). |

They have nothing to do with Smith's success. Right now Steve Smith is better primarily because of Delhomme. Smith is a little more athletic (I think Moss may be faster). No one gets the jump balls like Smith. However, I think that Smith's style is more likely to get him hurt. If you look at his body of work this year and consider their backfield troubles and the lack of playmakers on their team, he has been nothing short of spectacular. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
1. I think Moss is better because he has abilty to go after the ball instead of just getting open.
2 I think might have a lil more strenth then Brunell but Brunell is still more of a pro The reson Gibbs will not out MOss back there is because if you remember Darell Green. got injured returning punt gibbs never did it again and i agree |

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I find the fact that a receiver with 2 1000 yard season in 5 season being considered the best receiver in the NFL laughable. Neither Moss nor Smith are elite receivers just yet. Lets talk when they both do it two years in a row. Better yet, three in a row.

Who is the fastest guy in a race; the guy who holds the world record but is running 5th or the guy who is running the best race of his life and is in the lead? The NFL has turned into a "what have you done for me lately" league, so I'd be hard pressed to say that Steve Smith and Santana Moss should not be considered elite receivers. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
i think the reason that he had more yards is that they have a better line and they could go for the homerun ball more often. they are pretty equal in ability, i think Moss has better hands.

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
Kerry Colbert & Ricky "I meant to retire 3 years ago" Proel? They have nothing to do with Smith's success.
Actually now that I think about it your right. Kerry Colbert only had 282 yards this past year (Patten had 226 yards and didn't even play the entire season). On top of that Smith didn't have a tight end type with the Panthers like the Redskins have with Cooley (yes I know hes an H-Back). Not to take anything away from Moss who is a fantastic player, but at this moment Smith is the best reciever in the NFL. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
i hate smith's attitude but he is the best receiver right now and has been all year. I wouldn't take him over moss though.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
i love some moss, but steve smith is on another level this season. entire defenses are shifting their formations towards him, yet he still manages to get the ball and explode for more yards. there are no other weapons on offense besides smith and delhomme.
at least we have portis and cooley to help out brunell and moss, and i think our line is also better. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
1. Santana
2. Yes, Smith is better cuz Delhomme is better than Brunell 3. Yes 4. No, Antonio Brown should return kicks if he's still on the team. |

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
Yea your right but i cant doubt he is with us, and wouldnt have said that if we were playin carolina tonight

Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I take Satana over Smith. Az-Zahir Hakim will be here as wr/ punt returner
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I love Moss, but Smith is a slight notch above him right now.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
In the words of Dan Snyder...
How much for both?:) |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I'll keep Santana Moss. Steve Smith loses his cool if he doesn't get the ball. I know he wants to have the majority of the offensive plays called to his side, but without a running game today, it became too easy the Seahawks to contain him. The absence of Deshaun Foster was definitely felt.

do you want to reconsider that after the title game today ? i think smith is great but he gets frustrated . he reminds me a lot of gary clark. same kind of emotional explosive player who gets really upset if things are not going his way |

It's not like only Smith struggled today for the Panthers. The Seahawks game planned very well to take him away and nobody else stepped up for them. Delhomme was pressured and didn't play well, and Goings got knocked out the game early. Smith is still a notch better than Moss in my book, but it's not a big notch. Moss is right there. I think Smith's "attitude" is being taken a bit out of context. The guy was obviously frustrated, but I don't think he's like TO for example who gets frustrated when he doesn't get the ball, I think Smith was frustrated because his offense was struggling and they were losing... big difference. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I don't mind players getting frustrated but smith has anger issues. That has no place on the offensive side of the ball. He has been this way all year but things aren't gonna show until you lose. He is a great player but his attitude is in question. He also is extremely cocky even for a WR. Santana Moss seems so happy to be having a great season with opportunities that he feels blessed and doesn't act cocky. Santana's celebrations consist of him spinning the ball on the ground and that is it. I wouldn't take anyone over moss right now. He needs a great number two and this team will be completely unstopable.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
Its a coin-flip talent wise. But who wants to watch Big Baby throw a fit every time things don't go well. I like the way Moss carries himself. He's intense without looking foolish. I also like the fact that he gave those two turban guys face time after the big score against the Giants. It makes our fanbase seem very cosmopolitan.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
I'd take either...Moss is probably a little faster/quicker, and Smith is hands down STRONGER....but I just think Panthers Offense was just executed better for Smith then ours was fro Moss...That's why i can't wait to see what Saunders does with a WR like Moss and Cooley and Portis...We saw what he could to with a RB and TE, now he has a WR option also....I also think he will help get JC's arm on the field to run his offense sooner then later...
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
Both Moss and Smith are pro bowlers. Both great players. I do think I'd go with Moss cause he isn't as cocky on the field. Moss is a big hearted player like Smith and both have been penalized for questioning authority this season. Today Smith's behavior on the sideline was ridiculous, but it did NOT affect the on field play. He came right back and return a punt for a TD. Don't wanna see Moss return punts unless its an emergency, just like I don't wanna see Antonio Brown with the Redskins next season.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
when i look at both these guys, they are almost carbon copies, talent wise.im just glad we have one of them.and about smith having better talent besides him,i would take thrash over their other receivers, which is saying alot because i think thrash is worthless on offense
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
there are games where smith smith totally dissappears, moss is more consistant, but less likely to have 200 yard days do to scheme etc.
|
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
Smith went over 100 yards in 10 games this year and in two of those he topped 200. Keep in mind Smith did all this without the benefit of a Chris Cooley too, the next closest player in receptions on the Panthers was Foster with 34 catches.
Moss went over 100 yards 6 times in comparison. |
Re: Steve Smith Or Santana Moss?
:coach: i would rather have santana moss not just because he is on the skins but he hasn't been injured before and it wouldn't effect him
