Expectations for a #2 guy
I know we got a lot of threads based on who the Redskins will sign for a #2 (Eric Moulds, Reggie Wayne, Antwan Randle El, etc). However what should we expect next year from whoever we sign in terms of yards and receptions?
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
I would love to have 50+ receptions and 650+ yds from my #2. More specifically, I would be looking for a 13+ yard average per reception and a couple first down receptions per game.
If Reggie Wayne is our #2, I'd raise the reception and yardage expectations by 50%. In my eyes Reggie Wayne is a #1a receiver. |

If you don't feel the numbers will be the same, or even similar, why not state your expections for a #2 with respect to each qb on the roster? |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Except the yards per catch, I guess we already have a #2 Wr. Chris Cooley. Cooley put up those numbers. But I know what you mean, From a true WR.
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
They need a guy that can consistently beat single coverage. Whoever ends up as the #2 is going to have a great chance to put up some numbers especially early in the year. Cooley and Moss are going to see a lot of attention. I like the wideouts if Patten ends up as a #3. He did very well in that role in New England.
Moulds - too expensive for what is left in the tank Wayne - If he is franchised forget it T.O. - too expensive The more I think about it, I like K-Robinson. He is an idiot but he could certainly be an effective #2. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
as long as hes making plays, and we win more games.
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
#2 guy has to be good for at least 700 yards a season.

with saunders calling the plays, i expect we are going to see more passes all around. should help us l;and a #2 receiver. |

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
I'd hope for around atleast 650-750 yards and about 50-60 catches/4-7 TDs, but of course those #'s would go up with someone on the talent level of Wayne.

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
a good no. 2 should be a guy that creates enough space to consistently move the chains when we need a first.
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
a #2 receiver should catch the balls thrown his way and create space for s moss

Why? The question in itself is assinine. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
i think the #2 will be cooley as the H-back position. The second wr just has to catch and get yards after the catch on a regular basis. I don't care who it is.
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Who will be throwing the ball does not matter.
Our expectations for a number 2 should be that he threaten a defense enough that they cannot exclusively try to shut down Moss. We have a deep threat in Moss, and a mid threat with Cooley. If our 2 can just do enough to get respect from the opposing defense, it will make the offense better. Maybe asking "Who will be calling/designing the plays?" would make more of a difference. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Our 2# receiver should contribute more yards and TD's than Cooley which is asking a lot, but that's why he gets paid the big buck. If the Steelers have to lose the Superbowl and release Antwaan Randle-El, I'm pulling for the Seahawks. He would fit perfectly in our offense with a former AFC coordinator.

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
KR or Kevin Curtis would be the top choicess for me for price/performance still... 700yards would be nice. 400-500 is really pretty subpar for a #2.

Then why post at all? Kinda ironic that you, of all people, (mis)spelled asinine w/ 2 S's. |

Kinda ironic that you, of all people, (mis)spelled asinine w/ 2 S's.
Why? Because it's a stupid question, that's why I didn't answer it to begin with. It's dealing with ridculous hypotheticals. Good luck with it though. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Isn't alot of what we talk about dealing with hypotheticals??
I don't see where this thread is any different than any other ones we've got going on the forum. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
A solid 2 will catch 50+ balls and have about 700-800 yards. I think 6 TDs would be about right too. More importantly than his numbers would be his skill level in general. It needs to be someone who commands a safety on a regular basis to cover adequately. If he cannot create space for himself in one on one coverage then don't even bother playing him. Cooley is a great option but he doesn't require safety help consistently. He runs shorter routes out of the back field generally and is covered by an LB. That leaves one on one at the WR2 and Moss doubled or even tripled with two safeties(this past year). This is unacceptable. The mighty Steve Smith was bottled up exactly the same way against Seattle because Carolina had no viable options anywhere else. We need someone who scares defenses out of constant doubles and triples on Moss. We need someone who can make them pick a poison. I think Patten can do it but I still would like to get another guy just so when there is any injury the is still 2 viable options at the WR position.

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
I don't care how many yards or TDs he has - I care about number of catches, location of catches, and number of first downs. We have the offensive threats to score - Moss, Portis, Cooley, Sellers. What we need is a guy who can run crisp routes to spread the defense to open up other players, go across the middle, and move the chains to extend drives.

Asking a question about the production of a WR we don't even have yet, who is going to be catching passes from who we are not sure yet, with a brand new O-coordiantor who is not familar with our personel, let alone personel we don't even have yet, is not reaching just a tad? |

C'mon man we talk about these kind of scenarios all the time. Lighten up. It's the offseason. |

This is a Redskins discussion site and it is the off season. Just about everything we discuss is going to be hypothetical and conjecture. Should we just shut down the site during the off season since there is nothing concrete to talk about? Hell just about everything we talk about during the season is conjecture. In the words of Riggo "Chillout offiss baby!" |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Alright already. :towel:
|
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
For me, it all depends on what kind of yardage the other guys are getting (on the ground and in the air). If Santana and Portis have 1,400 yard seasons, I'd expect the #2 not to have more than 600 yards. If Santana and Portis' number drop, I'd expect the #2's numbers to jump.

I think offiss has thrown in the towel. So, in the interests of peace :), let's get back to discussing the thread topic.

I was thinking the same thing, but in the interest of not letting another thread get hijacked I was willing to let it slide, but since you mentioned it, yes I agree. Now let's get back to speculating about our new #2 WR! |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
I don't think that we should settle for our TE being our number 2. He is our number 1 TE, and we still need more threats beyond that illusive gold line. That being said, I feel that the prototypical 2nd wideout should above all else have excellent route running skills. That way, once Mark/Patty/Jason have exhausted their options in the play, and are looking at the 3rd progression, they can anticipate where he will be. (by third progression, i mean after moss, then cooley)
It would also be fun to have someone with the experience to come back for the ball when Mark/Pat/J is in trouble. That takes smarts, and normally a big price tag. So I would settle for Coles back as a number 2. hhaah! |

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
People, people. We are forgetting that David Patten is on our roster. He was on IR half the season. If he was able to play, he would have taken the pressure off Moss late in the season. I think we do need another receiver, dont get me wrong. But I think we are not looking at all of our options.
We have a #2 in Patten. Us being greedy(having Gibbs allows you to do that) we want another #2 so we will be unstoppable!!! |

As I mentioned above, I'm not expecting gaudy numbers from a #2 - just someone who can make the defense respect him. However, with Patton, I didn't get the impression that we actually played him very much. I have nothing to back that up, but I felt like he wasn't on the field too much. |
Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
Patten will still have a role with the team but you have to wonder if he'd be better suited as a #3.
Whatever happens, our WR depth is the main issue. |

Re: Expectations for a #2 guy
I think, overall on both sides of the ball near the sidelines we had depth issues. CB and WR. I havent written Patten off yet. But stay healthy, and get open!
He was playing when he was healthy, and doing nothing. And that's a testament to both his relationship with Mark, and to his inability to get open. He might as well have not have been on the field. I always have a difficult time 100% blaming a Wideout when the Qb doesnt get him the ball when he is open. |

then dono't read the thread and leave those that want to talk about to their own devices... no need to start sniping, we've got months to go. |
