Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
I wonder who you guys think are the 15 core redskins that Joe Gibbs mentioned.
Here is my list DEFENSE Shawn Springs Shawn Taylor Marcus Washington Lavar Arrington Joe Salavea Cornelius Griffen Philip Daniels OFFENSE CAMPBELL OR BRUNELL? Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
When he was talking to the players did he actualy name the players. The article was kind of fuzy on that.

Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
Offense:
Portis Thomas Jansen Dockery Moss Cooley Royal Sellers Defense: Taylor Washington Griffen Salava'e Springs Rogers Clark Wynn |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
My List is more than 15 Core players, because I believe there are:
Shawn Springs Sean Taylor Marcus Washington Lavar Arrington Joe Salavea Cornelius Griffen Philip Daniels Carlos Rogers Renaldo Wynn Mark Brunell Jason Campbell Santana Moss Chris Cooley Clinton Portis John Jansen Chris Samuels Randy Thomas Casey Rabach James Thrash Mike Sellers |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
It's probably just the idea of having core players. You can't really create a list if your Joe. But Im not Joe, so I will analyze your list.
Two flaws. Lavar is not a core player. Core players are not regularly in trouble with the coaches. And we don't often have too quantify the value of a core player. And Lavar makes to much for what he provides. Atleast, that's the argument. 3 years ago, he was the fan's core player. But not the coaches. And his situation has not improved. And I don't know that Casey Rabach after one season is a "core" player. Just because he doesnt freak out every time Buge's uses the f*** word. I agree with the others entirely. I would rather have core coaches though. Ya know. Guys you can count on to stick it out for a decade or two. |

Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
Core players are not necessarily the stars. I would include Thrash and Cartwright based on past Gibbs statements.

Two words....Ethan Albright
Tell me. Have you ever seen a thread here complaining about Albright? No. Why? Because he does his job and he does it well. This Bud's for you Mr. Underappreciated Long Snapping Football Helmet Wearing Fella |

I was going to give him a shout-out during the playoff run but was afraid I would put the whammy on him. In fact, his low-profile appraoch has worked so well, I think we should try to avoid bringing him up unless it is absolutely necessary. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
albright doesn't sign autographs. When he walked by the players lot and i yelled ethan ethan and he didn't even flinch. I continued to yell and some really hot lady came by and gave him a hug at which point i was like EEthha and stopped. Son of a bitch.

Offense:
Portis Moss Samuels Jansen Thomas Cooley Campbell Rabach Dockery Defense Washington Springs Griffin Taylor Marshall Saleve'a Rogers Honorable mention to ST players Rock, Thrash, and Jimoh Brunell and Daniels are a huge part of the team right now, but their time is getting short. |

I would say that Brunell is one of the core players based on his leadership role and plus he is a veteran with a lot of experience. |
Perhaps it's due to people calling his name in the past only to teas him about wanting an autograph. I mean, how many people actually care for the autograph of a long snapper? This brings up the question of whether a long snapper should ever be eligible for hall of fame much less get in? |

I understand where you are coming from about a long snapper being in the hall of Fame, but remember what happened to us back in 1999 in our divisonal playoff game against Tampa? His job is very critilcal to the game, especially when the game is on the line. I think that someday someone will see how important special teams are, and how on punt and field goals it all starts with the man snapping the ball. |

Well, that is exactly what it is but i got my jersey signed by as many of the 2005 skins as i could and he isn't on it so i would like his autograph. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
Samuels is a good player, but when I think core players, I think leader types. Those that others rally around. Samuels strikes me as too quiet to be in that role.
I think my biggest omission was Thrash. PS -- We should get a group together with a ton of Ethan Albright jerseys and head to training camp. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
I'd have to go with:
Def: Taylor Springs Wahington Griffith Salava'a Daniels Rogers OFF: Jansen Thomas Samuels Cooley Portis Moss SP: Albright Rock Thrash Sorry got 16 and i can't spell....I would love to put Lavar, but i have to see what happens this offseason with him. I think Gibbs loves Gibbs, but when we say CORE, i believe that means people that will be here for the next 4 years (hopefully)..I think the only ones on my list that my not be here for that long are Rock,Thrash and Daniels |

I don't think he's as quiet as he may seem. He'd qualify as a core guy to me simply because of how quickly the team sought to lock him up long-term. Him leaving was really never an option. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
Defense:
Griffen Salevea Daniels Springs Washington Marshall Rogers Taylor Offense Portis Moss Cooley Thomas Brunell Jansen Samuels Sellers Could possibly change (be added to) in the up and coming season, but those are my 2005 core Redskins. Opps! Just noticed you wanted 15....ah well...you got 16! |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
Def:
Taylor Springs Wahington Griffith Salava'a Daniels Rogers Marshall OFF: Jansen Thomas Samuels Cooley Portis Moss Sellers though i'm not much in the way of a samuels fan, the team seems to like him. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
i think the phrase core players is exactly that,a phrase.it has nothing to do with star power, its doing things the RIGHT WAY(the redskin way)i love sean taylor to death but i know all the b.s. surrounding him is driving coach gibbs nuts.he would prefer someone like thrash who comes to work everyday, gives 110% when here, then quitely goes home and always says the right thing.this may sound funny but p ramsey may be one

Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
How many people at this time last year thought we'd be talking about core Redskins and not really mentioning Lavar? Not many I'm sure.

Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
core players
Rock - leads by example Thrash - see above Portis - superstar that gets dirty Jansen - been here the longest M. Washington - plays to hard not to be Brunell - he is a leader |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
You probably guessed how I determine my core - by their contracts!
Here's my list of core players and their cap numbers for the next 3 years (in 000s): Player.........2006.....2007.....2008 Samuels........$10,218..$8,950...$8,000 Jansen.........$5,603...$5,853...$6,353 Springs........$5,558...$6,583...$6,708 Portis.........$5,476...$6,431...$7,494 Washington.....$5,167...$5,167...$5,592 Thomas.........$4,912...$5,412...$5,912 Griffin........$4,883...$5,583...$5,583 Taylor.........$4,690...$1,673...$1,913 Moss...........$4,260...$5,200...$5,600 Rabach.........$3,145...$3,750...$3,750 Patten.........$2,447...$3,013...$3,262 Rogers.........$2,297...$2,757...$2,895 Campbell.......$1,341...$1,603...$1,666 TOTAL (approx).$60,000..$62,000..$64,000 Other notables: Arrington - I did not include him in my core. I just don't feel like he's in the team's long-term plans. Everyone says we won't save much this year by cutting him, but it would take a financial load off our books in the future. Betts - very cheap but only signed thru 2006. I think we need to get him an extension soon. We need someone to take the load off Portis. Of course if the coaches think Rock or Nemo could be that guy then maybe they'll let Betts walk. Brunell - he isn't cheap but with more restructures we can probably keep him around for a few more years. Cooooooooley - signed cheap but only thru 2007. I expect him to sign an extension sometime this season or maybe in the preseason. Salavea - signed cheap but only thru 2007. I feel he is part of our core. I'd expect him to sign an extension in the future assuming his strong play continues. Marshall - see Salavea. Sellers - see Salavea. Patten - He was borderline IMO but I included him above anyways. I have a feeling he might still be our #2 this year, and his contract is set up to keep him here for a while if he can be productive. Dockery - He's only signed thru 2006. I figure we'll have to make a long-term decision on him soon. Either resign him to keep our Oline together, or bring in a replacement to take his place. Thrash - I consider Thrash a core Skin but it's hard to say how long he'll be here. He's signed thru 2007 but isn't that cheap. Maybe a restucture here at some point to keep him in the picture. Daniels - signed thru 2008 but starting to get old and expensive. I can see him staying for another year or two but not sure if he'll be here beyond that. Wynn - signed thru 2007, similar scenario to Daniels. Draft picks - not sure what the future holds for draft picks like Nemo, McCune, etc. I expect 2006 to be a major factor in determining their future with the team. |

I thought he was a nice Mormon boy but he turns out to be Riggins Jr. If he flakes out on us because of some girl or because he wants to go find himself, we're in big trouble. |

I think he'll be fine, turns out he's still with that cheerleader, and probably wasn't screwing the entire squad as was originally reported. |
Re: Who do you think are the 15 Core Players?
I don't think betts is in the future plans because of injury problems...
