Former quarterback Joe Theismann, Washington Post columnist Tony Kornheiser and Mike Tirico will be the broadcast crew for "Monday Night Football" next season as the long-running show shifts to ESPN from ABC.
At least the Skins will get some love on Monday nights! EDIT: I always miss the Newswire. |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
What are the odds Tony K falls asleep by halftime of the first game? ANd does this mean that he's going to write even less for the Post than he already does?
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
Is Kornheiser any good? I have only seen him on PTI, where I think he is pretty good.
Does this mean Theismann will let him talk? Thank the lord they broke up that Sunday night crew. They were b.r.u.t.a.l. |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
Tony needs to stick with PTI(which I love watching). He fell asleep during the Redskins demoralizing victory over dallas, this should eliminate him from being an broadcaster.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
demoralizing victory over dallas.
He's not exactly young, and is of course, on the East Coast! The end of the game doesn't roll around until 12:45 - 1:30. If you have to get up at 5:00 - 5:30 a.m. like I do, it makes for a killer day! Gotta love those words: Demoralizing victory over Dallas! It will start to beat a familiar refrain when we do it again! |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
I love Tony K. And Theisman has gotten pretty good over the years.. I think this could be a great crew for Monday night. Way to go ESPN. :biggthump

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
TK will become the modern version of Howard Cosel. He knows sports, he's opinionated, and he's funny. People will be tuning in to hear what he has to say more than to watch the crummy game.

Kornheiser will make it tough for me to watch monday nights
I am pretty dissapointed about mr. tony being on monday night football. I used to listen to his show, watch PTI, and read his stuff in the post but I cant stand him anymore. He hardly ever even goes to games. I pay to go to games because I love it. He gets paid to do sports and doesnt like going to games. Now they give him a huge check and he suddenly wants to go to every monday night game. He is too self righteous for me. Lots of people around here dont like him.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
That's a lotta' Skin's weight on MNF. Should be great! I can see TK being the new Cosell. However, with Theisman, there will be much competition for airtime

he complained about having to do it for two weeks an about how he's not sure he can tay up, he doesn't fly, he doesn't know if JT will ever shut up etc. He doesn't just not go to games though... he doesn't go to anything. I don't know why you'd think he's self-righteous though... |
Re: Kornheiser will make it tough for me to watch monday nights
i have heard some comments from people who work in the same building he does his radio show from and aperently he is not a nice guy. when they moved the show to the building he said he wouldnt go unless they provided a car survice. he comes across to me as a guy who thinks regular fans like you and i are somehow below him. people say they see him on the golf course and he is very unpleasant also. i stopped listening to his show when he did a piece on water gate as if his opinion on politics is somehow insightful and superior because he writes for the post on games and issues i see live and he does not. oh, and how sweet is this sight. just joined today and i love it already.

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
TK and Denis Miller are nothing alike. One is a sports writer who knows what he is talking about, the other is a comedian who wrote his "material" for the broadcast before the game started. I think TK will do a good job if not a great one. The ultimate question is of of course will anyone care about who is in the booth now that Monday Night Football it is on cable? I rarely if ever watch it in whole it unless the Skins were playing.

TK is pretty rehearsed. I agree, he won't be as bad as Miller on MNF, but Kornheiser's quips are very Miller-esque (but not as funny). Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
i dont like tirico. his voice gets all squeaky when he gets excited . sounds like hes going through puberty
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
i think it's a good group of guys. they should be entertaining as well as knowing what they are talking about ,as it pertains to football anyway.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
Tony is not in the same league as Cosell. Listening to Cosell pontificate was a joy for anyone who loves words. He was a true artist. If Tony were ten times more pompous and 100 times more intelligent, you might have something.

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
its good but unfortunately for us locals we will lose the TK radio show
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
it should be a good crew, at least it's something different. so what game will madden and michaels do now?

sunday night on nbc. |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
its good but unfortunately for us locals we will lose the TK radio show
he almost put a disclaimer in the other day on his show by saying he loves what he does on the radio and he would never give it up long term. this is a temp. gig for kornheiser on mnf. 2 years tops imo

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
I think a successful booth team starts with a good "Straight man", and Tirico will do a great job in that role. He doesn't mind letting his partners interupt him or say what they want in the way of analyzing or providing color. We all know how JT will do, because we have heard him for many years on Sunday nights. Kornheiser is the wildcard. He will make or break the show in my opinion. If he sticks to occasional comments here and there, I think it will be a good mix. MNF is looking for that "foil" for Theisman like the relationship Cosell and Merideth had. Tony should be good in that role. Let Tirico call the game, let JT go on and on about the particulars and let Tony play spoiler to JT's comments.

Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
TK is great on PTI but monday night football i have to wait and see.i think tirico is ok but he to me doesn,t have the personality to go with it.
but i guess it,s too early to judge until september. |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
I Tony K should to fine, although, I think John Riggins would have been better!
:towel: |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
i can't stand kornheiser or tirricco,i think they are both huge jackasses!!!
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
I Tony K should to fine, although, I think John Riggins would have been better!
:towel:
I agree. Riggins would have been the modern day Don Meredith, and he and Joe already have a history. Hearing some of their stories would have been refreshing in the booth. However, I'm not screaming about the Kornheiser deal. For those of you who remember his original "Bandwagon" series back in 91, you'll know that he was the King of Washington Football for a long time afterwards. The thing that is the wildcard with him is that he has become known for doing all sports as a broadcaster and it seems that his depth of knowledge on football might have suffered. And will locker rooms embrace him like one of their former own? As for his personality...hey remember, he grew up in NYC. His flip crassness is a polished art there. |
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
Riggins would be great, i would take him over Thiesman any day Joe can get on my nerves quick. Take him over Tony too man this shit can go either way, with the way tony whines about this on his radio show it sounds like it could go the wrong way.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
anyone over joey T, please. I can't stand him in the booth. he can't stop talking and when he doen't have anything meaningful to add, he just makes things up which are both pointless and retarded.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
This will be a very interesting group. Tirico is a great straight man and play-by-play caller. Some people don't like Theismann, but I think he is a good analyst and very oppinionated. Kornheiser is also very oppinionated and the banter between him and Theismann could be very entertaining. No more anti-Redskin sentiments.
|
Re: ESPN Monday night crew: Theismann, Kornheiser and Tirico
maybe they could at least use the game to push art monk every week until he gets in...
