Vernon Davis?
hey everybody....
would anybody be willing to move up on the board to go get this guy. I looked at some higlights on fridge TV on the maryland website and he just never seems to go down. their is a moment where he drags 4 clemson defenders for about 5 yards and just gets forced out of bounds doesnt even fall to the ground. He's got good hands, runs well after the catch and has great work ethics. he would be the perfect fit at TE but is it worth it to trade up to go get him cause he'll definitely be gone in the 2nd round. |
Re: vernon davis?
how do you propose we move up in the draft to get a top 10 pick?
But i would love someone from the UMD! look what Merriman does. |
Re: vernon davis?
Vernon Davis is a stud who will help whichever team drafts him. I saw most Maryland games last year, and Davis proved he can make big plays. He'd definitely be better than Robert Royal, but the price might be way too high. Analysts predict Davis will go in the Top 15.

Re: vernon davis?
Can we even afford to sign a top draft pick??
|
Re: vernon davis?
No way do we give the rest of our picks to get this guy. I say we wait a few years and get him via free agent.
|
Re: vernon davis?
I heard on ESPN that mel Kiper rates him higher right now than kellon winslow when he came out.
but there is no way to get a top 10 pick |
Re: vernon davis?
no way. a TE that doesn't block worth crap isn't in the top 10 of team needs even. even if we went up that high, i'd bet hali or m williams would be rated higher for us.
pope, klop or day are much closer to team needs at TE and they'll be 2nd-4th round picks. You should never move up to take someone you don't really need just cause he went to your school ;) |
Re: vernon davis?
hey frenchy welcome aboard!
|
Re: vernon davis?
no way we can trade up for this guy....and we dont need a receiving TE anyway....we have Chris Cooley
|
Re: vernon davis?
Cooley! Cooley! Cooley!
|
Re: vernon davis?
Whoever our TE is will have a good year(s). Signing Al Sanders will be good for the TE, but bad for Moss. Tony Gonzalez excelled under his system but to be honest with you I am not too familiar with any of their recievers over the last during his 15 year stint with KC besides Dante Hall; who makes the headlines on special teams. Correct me if I'm wrong...but the last Wideout that they put in the Pro Bowl was Andre Rison.

that has to do with the talent more than the scheme. their WRs have usually been pretty bland and hence the lack of name recognition. moss can still take a 2 yard pass and run an extra 80 on it, so i doubt he'll be too hurt. Gonzo is a lot faster than cooley though, i don't think a new scheme is going to all of a sudden make him a hundred times better (but an 800 yard a year TE that leads the league is YAC ain't the worst thing in the world to have). |
Re: vernon davis?
We need a second WR and a DE over another TE
|
Re: vernon davis?
If we're moving up I definitely wouldn't look for a TE. While Davis is a great player, I think Robert Royal, even though he's had some bad games, and even that undrafted Auburn TE (who we may have cut, I don't remember) are serviceable at that position. As for the pick, I'd take the best DE/WR on the board, unless there was a CB on the board that seemed to drop far too far.
This draft is all about trying to give the Redskins depth in the future. I don't think we really need another WR with Patten around, and if we get one get a big boy. Rod Gardner minus drops. |

Sure he complements Moss. Anyone who can keep defenses from doubling Santana 100% of the time complements him very well! |

patten in the lineup = 80+ more passing yards per game believe it or not. |
Re: vernon davis?
Davis is insane. The guy just ran a 4.38 at the combine. Guy should play Wideout. Heres his lifting stats at Maryland
Bench - 460 Squat - 650 Power Clean - 350 Verticle - 40 Inches What a speciman |

His stock might have shot up into the top 15 of the draft. Jesus, a tight end who can run a 4.38? He is faster than little Moss. A 40-inch vertical? What is this guy on? |
Re: vernon davis?
why isn't he rated as high as KWII was? I mean, its not like davis is a soldier going out and injuring himelf on curbssides... If i needed a WR though, I think i'd take him over Santonio holmes.

I think a lot of it with KWII was, to take nothing away from him, hype. You had people making comparisons to him and his dad, who revolutionized the position. Also, the fact that he came from the much heraled "U" I think added to how many rated him as an NFL prospect. |
Re: vernon davis?
Davis ran a sub 4.4 40. that's insane. he should be a top ten pick and will have an immediate impact. MD players are well coached and have excelled at the next level. Merriman, Foxworth, even Novak. We should look at moving up to get Davis and Dqwell Jackson in the 2nd. what about trading ramsey and our second rounder for the jets first rounder?
|
Re: vernon davis?
I just can't believe more hype wasn't given to his character issues. the dude's an idiot.
I think davis is a better TE and can almost guarantee his first two years will be better than KWII's :P |

um, ramsey is worth a 4th or a 5th, our 2nd rounder is #52, the jets have the #4 pick. that's NEVER happening. We'd have to give basically every pick this year and a starter to get into the first round. Not to mention, how do you trade your 2nd round pick and ALSO use it to take D'Qwell? sounds like UMD homerism :P |

The tears of little children. And Red Bull. |
Re: vernon davis?
pretty good turnout at the combine
6'3" 3/4 258? 4.38 40 (1st) 10'8" broad jump (1st) 42 inch vert (1st) 7 seconds in 3 cone drill (5th) 4.17 short shuttle (5th) still don't know if I would give up all that we would need to, to pick him up though |
Re: vernon davis?
if you look at him as a freakish WR he looks much better (since TEs are generally taller with better ups).
|
Re: vernon davis?
I tell you what Davis could be a WR he's that good, I would love to see a CB try to match up with him on the outside, near impossible, this guy would carry both the football and a CB into the end zone, may be second coming of John Mackey, only faster. 4.37 at 6'3" and 255lbs I would love to get this guy but I know it wont happen, but this guy is going to be devastating!
|
Re: vernon davis?
From what I saw of him at the combine and what they were saying about his blocking skills, along with his ball skills I would like to see us do what we had to to get him. I mean can you imagine trying to decide on who would be blocking and who would be running routs between him and Cooley? That would have to give opposing D's fits trying to guess what was comming at them...

cooley is a decent blocker, but nothing special... i think pope is a better fit just cause the price/performance to get up to a top 10 pick and then pay that pick would be crazy. Davis is killer though. |

extactly, I'll eat my Ascott Hat if Davis has a better first two years then our boy. Has anyone heard one thing about this guys hands? Blocking? I mean vert and a great 40 are nice, but they don't win games. See Kellen Winslow ... |

davis isn't a raging retard, and his hands and blocking are fine. |
Re: vernon davis?
the guy is over 250 and runs a 4.38. which is faster than most of the wr coming out. if there's a way do it. guys like this don't come around very often if at all. think of an offense that has our o line and moss, patten or k orbinson , cooley and v davis. who would you key on ?keys gentleman,we have alot of peices but just a few more keys. like a well made soup that's just missing a few choice ingredients to become the best ever.mho

Did you really put Vernon Davis in the same sentence as Robert Royal? Smarten' up.. |
Re: vernon davis?
There is absolutely, positively, no way we will draft this guy. As Doc Walker said, he is a manchild. Don't waste your collective breath.

we won't draft him because doc walker said he was a manchild? I thought it was because moving up would be to costly... but what do i know. |

Don't think. The Redskins have nothing to offer somebody to get in the top 10 which is where they would need to be. I will be sure to spell things out for your benefit, going forward. |
