Malcolm's Redskins Room

Just wanted to get some input on what I should add to my new Redskins room. My fiancee and I close on our first house on the 31st (with a 4.59% fixed APR :) I might add). She has given me clearance to start a Redskins room of my own and already I had some ideas.

1) My reclining couch goes into this room rather than the normal living room since I'll most likely be in there more than my living room.

2) College-sized fridge. During football season I would just pack a cooler full of beer and sit in front of the TV and watch so I would never have to get up.

3) Computer of course.

4) Biggest TV that we own of course.

5) This is my master stroke of brilliance which I think might be pretty bad ass for old school fools such as myself. I've seen on eBay that I can basically buy every console system ever made and hook it up to my TV through a Pelican adapter console. It allows for 7 RCA/S-Video/Component hook ups with 2 optical jacks. I plan on hooking up an NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, Xbox and PS2. I plan on buying wireless controllers for all systems to keep the clutter down. I found I can buy most of those consoles for about $200 total (excluding the PS2 and Xbox). I'm also getting that thing for the SNES that allows me to play my old Gameboy games on it.

6) Later comes the huge home theater system with which to hear the original Super Mario Bros. in all it's glory.

7) She already agreed to the burgundy paint, so that's a go. I'm going to buy the team picture every year and frame each one along the border of the room.

I'm pumped about this idea and will put pics up as I progress.

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

you can get roms online and play all those games on your tv and 5.1 surround through your computer (and use sega/nes/etc controllers too if you want). it takes up a lot less space. (you can play actual arcade games on it too).

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 03:50 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

I know. I forgot to mention that I do that all the time. It's just not the same. :(

I'm a purist when it comes to stuff like that.

That Guy 03-07-2006 03:55 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

thats cool. arcade games (even retro) are WAY to expensive, but ninteno and sega games are like 2-10$ each. make sure you get alien soldier. best genesis game ever.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:08 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

I'd love to get a full-size console game. We have our eye on the Simpsons Pinball Party. I think it retails for only $2500.

I only have room for one pinball machine or console game (until I get a newer, bigger house where I'll have a whole Redskins BASEMENT).

I DO remember Alien Soldier. Was that one of the old Master System games?

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:10 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Also, I forgot the main reason I started this thread.

Anyone know of some bad ass accessories or video games that are must-haves? I plan on owning EVERY Madden ever made. I remember NFL Football 94 where all you had to do was use the spin move and you'd run for a touchdown every single time.

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

If you get Nintendo, then you will definitely need Tecmo Bowl (Bo Jackson is badass on that game), Double Dribble, Contra....I can list more, but those were my favorites.s

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:19 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Yeah man. I'm glad you guys are reminding me of the classics. I totally forgot about Double Dribble. I still own Contra, it was the first NES game I ever bought and the only one I still own. Tecmo Bowl is a classic. You can't go wrong with football from side-to-side.

damn that takes me back. let me throw in RBI, Blades of Steel, and Kid Icarus

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:23 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Never played any RBI or Blades of Steel, but Kid Icarus, I was ALL over that game.

You remember Base Wars where you had those robots that would fight every time they went base to base?

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:24 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

You definitely can't go wrong with the Double Dragon franchise. That was one of the first 2 player Street Fighter style fighting games (remember the vs. mode?). There was that game that had the white and the red kung fu guys but I don't remember the name of that.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-07-2006 04:25 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

And don't forget arguably my favorite NES game of all-time: River City Ransom
Best SNES game: Zelda: Link to the Past

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

NES- Obviously Contra, Legend of KAge, Baseball Stars, Zelda, SM Bros., Tecmo bowl, Original Metal gear, River City Ransom, Track and Field...just to name a few.

You have to get a coleco vision also if you wanna take it back to crazy old days.

That Guy 03-07-2006 06:26 PM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

for sega, sonic (3, 4, S&K), alien soldier... B.O.B. is pretty decent

arcade: AvP, tower of doom (D&D), some form of raiden or 1942, King of fighters (some years are better than others).

If you want good PC games (old school or not) I could rattle off about 200 ;)

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

i dont know if you want to go all out,but you can buy a customized redskin pinball machine for about $3500.00 brand new

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Hmmm you also need the Atari 2600... cant forget that one.

You have to get Excitebike on NES. I can't believe no one has mentioned that yet. That was like one of my favorite games of all time.

Also, RC Pro Am was a fun game on the NES

For NES River City Ransom was an awesome game you gotta get that.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-08-2006 08:39 AM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

And get one with a Game Genie? :)

I loved being able to jump repeatedly in the air on Mario. The fiancee did not clear having a fathead in the room though. She said that was some overkill. I was like, "Overkill?! You haven't even BEGUN to see Skins overkill in this room yet."

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Sports Illustrated sells old covers for about $15 each. Get a couple of old Skins covers framed. The extreme close-up of Dexter Manley would keep any home intruders at bay.

Also can't go wrong with the 3 super bowl posters or the 3' C-Po bobblehead.

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Metroid - kind of a reverse "Crying Game" ending, but still one of the best games ever.

Any ideas on where I can get the Super Bowl posters? I was thinking of doing that...

We got all three and a poster of FedEx at the mall in one of those print/painting/frame shops. I can't remember exactly how much they cost (maybe around $50+ w/o frames).

My dad and I (I never plan on moving out) are filling our basement with different sports posters and whatnot. We've got the SB posters, an awesome drawing of Cooley, Moss, Portis, Brunell, LaVar, Griffin, Washington, and Taylor, the Post from the first Nationals game with our ticket stubs, some UMD basketball posters and the picture of Ali KOing Liston. We still have a lot of extra space though, so I might get those SI covers or something.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-08-2006 09:59 AM

Re: Malcolm's Redskins Room

Pretty awesome. I've been checking around for the posters and most are about $50.

Those are great. Thanks for the tip! We have a professional framing shop in town and I know the owner so I can get some good prices on the framing.

I've always had the Skins neon in my mind to buy, but man that price tag is kind of nuts.
