We will draft a DB with our first pick.
Given that Walt Harris and Matt Bowen will be cut, and that defensive players are usually ready to play before offensive players, I firmly believe we will draft a DB with our first pick. The player will most probably be a CB. If you listen to the pundits, this draft is deep at DB and weak at WR. Gibbs will give Williams another toy to play with and give him another reason to stay right here. This will give us Springs, Rogers, Jimoh and TBD rookie at CB...

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
ill agree with you there. a good de could be had with our next pick (even though id prefer OL depth) well get a WR in FA, possibly a DE too and draft at CB, LB and DE.

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
I think the our second round pick will either be TE OL or LB, but we will see

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
Our second round pick will be the best player available. If there is a D-back who can step in at the 53rd pick, fine. I've seen mocks that have us drafting Maurice Stovall at that pick, and I don't believe anyone would be upset if that happened. I've seen Kamerion Wimbley in more than a few mocks as well.

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
i think there will be some great OLmen available then. you think we would take them if they were first available?

It's possible, but since CB is a deep position in this year's draft, an OL would probably be a backup, and a CB could be a prominent player in a nickel capacity, I'd go with a CB. Wow, that's a run-on sentence... |
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
yeah if it were between the two. just askin
definitely be a nice luxury to rotate in someone to replace springs eventually. |
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
Many of us are already discounting Springs, but I think he has a very good season ahead of him. Could be wrong, but that's just my gut feeling. Also, if his speed starts to decline, have him put 15 pounds on and he might make a nice strong safety. I'm just not sure if he's strong enough? thoughts?
|
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
i dont think anyone is discounting springs so much as were saying he cant play forever and since the cb depth is great this year, we can get a good one in the later rounds
|
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
I seriously doubt we will be drafting at TE that high. Maybe a project guy in the later rounds.
It's hard to say, but I think Cooley will become more of a true TE, and Sellars will play the FB/HB role in Saunders system. Who knows, I could be completely wrong. |
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
if pope is available, you gotta draft him ;) otherwise i still like OL or some of the LBs more than the CBs there... but there are good cbs.
and i would be pretty pissed if we took stovall at 53. one good season and he's SLOW. |

Who is discounting Springs? I think he is in our top 5 defender list... |
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
our main problem is depth. we dont need any big name free agents, except maybe a replacement for arrington and maybe for Royal also. I really think patten can be our number 2, he really hasnt had a chance yet because of his injury. What we need is solid recievers to play under him and moss, cuz we dont want to insert thrash or jacobs if there is an injury. Build through the draft!!!!

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
whats funny is that it seems like there is only one "cant miss" WR from every draft. pretty mcuh the pundits are always like "well he has THIS positive but THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS many negatives"
garbage |
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
We'll have a much better idea of who we draft in a few weeks, after we sign FAs and the draft board becomes more clear (after players hold workouts on their home turf).
|
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
Agreed, but unless we re-sign Harris and another CB, a CB will be drafted with the first pick!

If he convinces Gibbs that a true tight end is absolutely vital to his offense, then you could see it, but with Cooley already here, I doubt that will be the case. |

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
yeah thats why i said in another thread to maybe just get a WR after theyre developed or close to developing. this year there arent a huge amount of good WR FAs but last year there was a good crop for a decent price. i say let someone else deal with the headache.

Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
orr, has and DQ, my sleepers at WR. holmes and moss should be okay too, but holmes might take a while.
|
Re: We will draft a DB with our first pick.
It seems seems imperative that we draft a CB early.

I think offensive line depth is pretty important now. |

Definately. However we're in luck b/c we got two things working for us: 1. The draft is deep at the interior line positions 2. Joe Bugel is our O-Line Coach. |

at our first pick the #2 OG should be there and some decent (not great) tackles will be left, as well as 2 of the top 3 centers. |

Good Tackles are rarely available past the first round (Yes Jansen is one the Exceptions). By the same token I think a lot of 1st round tackles are taken as reach picks. Pro Bowl quality G's on the other hand can be found all over the draft. |

still not as bad as QBs, some are taken at #1 as reach picks (like alex smith :P). |

Alex Smith was not a reach. He scored high on the Wonderlic. Awww who am I kidding Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, JP Losman, Akili Smith, and Kyle Boller make a better case as reaches then Marc Colombo, that Bodybuilder from the Packers, and Andre Johnson (the tackle from Penn State). |
