Ryan Clark
Just curious to see if anyone has heard an update on whether or not we're gonna get him back or let him go.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
Sounds like Archuleta is our target and Clark may be our fall back guy
|
Re: Ryan Clark
i hope we keep Clark. i thought he was very solid last year. Please bring him back. he meshed with sean taylor. He doesn't deserve to go.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
Clark definately hits much bigger than his body would suggest. I like him, but if he has to go, so be it.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
I think that Archuleta is the fall back option for Taylor.
I think we will try to sign Clark to a reasonable offer. Clark did good in GW's defense, but might struggle elsewhere. He was a good value at his previous salary but if he decides to go, I'm sure he could be replaced. I would personally like to see him back. |
Re: Ryan Clark
Clark is awesome. He is one of my favorite players. He is great to the fans and he has signed for me everytime I call out his name. He is funny and cool as hell. As ryan would say EEEEEEK EEEEEK.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
I hope Clark gets a good deal either way.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
i really rather not pay for AA when clark is cheap and fairly solid. He can't stop 260lb RBs, AA could, BUT... i don't think its worth it.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
I don't know, but I looked at the roster tonight on redskins.com and Clark ain't on it !!! ???

Neither is Omar Stoutmire. I think because they're both FAs technically they don't belong to any team, even the Redskins, right now |
Re: Ryan Clark
Like to see Clark back. He learned alot about hitting from Sean Taylor. If Taylor doesn't return we'll need Clark. He's not as scary looking as Taylor but if he gets a chance he'll pop ya! Arch would secure our depth is Taylor isn't available come camp. I think all 3 will be at camp. Gotta think positive.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
i think its arch or clark, not both. too expensive.
"There are a lot of speeches about core guys, but then they don't keep the core group together," said Clark, who's going to visit the Steelers today. "I love my teammates and my coaches, but there's the football side, and there's the business side of the building. [Redskins owner] Dan Snyder likes to make big moves, and Archuleta's a first-round guy. He's a good player, an athletic guy. They'll be able to use him well." Clark, who made the Giants as undrafted rookie in 2002 and had a surprisingly large impact after signing with the Redskins just before training camp in 2004, would be unhappy to leave Washington. "We have real good chemistry on defense, especially in the secondary," Clark said. "I know my role. And my teammates know what to expect from me. I'm not trying to break the bank. I just want to take care of my family. But with Sean [Taylor] and Archuleta, three's a crowd. I've worked too hard to be on the bench again. I've been proving people wrong my whole career. This is just another example of nothing coming easy for me."
We really threw him to the curb. I am pissed. I don't want archuleta. I want clark. Clark has always been great to the fans and plays hard. No one ever gave him a chance just because he was to small but we know he can lay the lumber. I don't see us signing him but honestly if he is cheaper than archuleta I don't know why we wouldn't help our guys out. |

I would've been happy having him return. |
Re: Ryan Clark
i want clark back, too.just what am i missing in archuleta?i dont think he has any cover skills, not very fast, and doesnt hit as good as clark.so why spend bigger money when we already have someone that knows our defense and would be cheaper?

Not sure what you're reading or not reading on Archuleta, but he's definitely faster, bigger and a harder hitter than Clark.
He is an undersized SS who makes a lot of plays. He is not the same type of player, but the Rams try to do a lot of the same things Pittsburgh does with Troy Polamalu. He has very good straight-line speed for the position. He can come up on the line and match up with the TE in man-to-man situations. They will walk him up over the TE and he gets a nice jam, not allowing the TE to get a clean release. He plays more physical than his size. He flashes the foot quickness to align over a receiver in the slot. He is a solid zone safety -- has very good instincts. He closes well forward and to the sidelines in Cover 2. He is a smart player -- excellent instincts and can distinguish quickly between the run and pass. He anticipates well and shows excellent route recognition. He plays bigger than his size as a hitter -- can blow up ball carrriers and receivers when he gets them lined up. He did not play as well down in the box last season. He tends to get out-sized when blockers are able to reach him. He is not quick to shed blocks in run support. Because of his aggressiveness he does get out of position at times. He will overrun the ball in run support. He is more of a drag-down tackler -- better hitter than wrap-and-finish safety. Though he is fast, he can take some poor angles in coverage. He struggles in coverage as the deep safety. He does not have great ball skills in deep coverage. Overall, he is a high-energy player who flies to the ball. He loves football and plays with passion. He is a good Cover 2 SS and is effective enough dropping down in the box. He has the ability to make a team better in the back end.
|

Stopped and posted for pictures and signed EVERYTHING. |
Re: Ryan Clark
So is Clark the 2006 pity party Redskin?
I guess we need someone to replace Ramsey and Arrington. ;) |
Re: Ryan Clark
yeah i would say so. as much as we know that the nfl is a business, mentally its hard to see someone go like that who worked their ass off to become a starter in the nfl. not someone like arrington who relied on pure atheltic ability
its tough for someone who shut their mouths, did their job and then see get kicked to the curb. not saying that archuleta wont be significantly better, but as a person, not a fan you really wish the team could find a spot for a plyer like that. |
Re: Ryan Clark
I hate to see Clark go. He really did seem like a team player, and he really isn't that much smaller than AA. Sometimes I wonder about us letting guys go like him. I could write quite a list about players we let go due to Danny's flavor of the month, but with Gibbs here I guess I will just have to believe.
AA will be a fine replacement, and I am not worried about him taking the money and slowing down and not giving his all for the team. AA numbers are a little bit better than Clark's over the past two years, but in all honesty, I think Clark is just coming into his prime. I wish him the best of luck and he could be a nasty addition to the Steelers. |
Re: Ryan Clark
Archuleta is listed as 6-0, 223 pounds.
Clark is listed as 5-11, 205. Archuleta's upside is still pretty significant, especially in a GW defense. Clark is a classic overachiever and we've probably already seen what he's capable of. If GW wants Archuleta, that's all I need to know. |
Re: Ryan Clark
I thought he[Clark] had a great season. There has to be something the Redskins and GW thinks he dosen't bring to the table. Is it cost or his play? I would love to have him back at the right price and throw in Chris Hope! But that is me because I really think Taylor will not be here in 06.

If he wants a cross-eyed safety then so be it. |

taylor will be here in 2006... the lawyers will see to it.. as for clark, he made himself into a decent payer. probably worthy of being in rotation. but he has limitations due to size. i think he is similar to prioleau, whom we already have. he will land somewhere, but like ohalete or shade before him, nobody is gonna confuse him with an all pro |

they havent even found a gun have they? and i dont even think hes admitting he had one. its going to be he-said,she-said.. taylors free, case closed |

I feel for Clark....He said that the Redskins didn't wanted him even with his great play. He said he love playing for the fans and was at home in Washington. He said he will miss being a Redskin! GOOD LUCK MR CLARK!!!

Yeah, but come on now...Arch has already shown he can play over the last 5 years with the Rams and is a top rated safety. Its not fair to compare him to Leaf or Mirer... |

Re: Ryan Clark
Players like Clark will always have a roller coaster ride of a career in the NFL. The good news is that he overperforms and that allows have to have his career in the NFL at all. Good luck in the future Ryan Clark. I will welcome you back in a Redskins uniform if you return.

That wasn't my point. My point is it doesn't matter where your drafted. The fact that AA was drafted in the first round means nothing to me. |
Re: Ryan Clark
Nothing against Arch but I don't understand all this talk about a "core group of guys" and then letting Clark go. Arch WILL be more expensive and we have other more pressing needs than strong safety. Why in the world did we make such a boneheaded play? It will cost us financially (and possibly in terms of cohesion) in the long run.
:madani: |
Re: Ryan Clark
they wanted to keep clark in a back up role and clark wants to start. its as simple as that.

Re: Ryan Clark
the only way clark deserves to be let go is if he was asking for too much $, which may be the case. I hate to see this, his comments are right on, we can't talk up "core" guys, then bring in a free agent to replace one. I'm also worried about the $ we gave archuleta.

still but meeting a guy isn't the same as after playing with him for a year. you don't know him as well and like the guy before said gotta keep the core group. only thing is D is easier to bring together than O. just remember we got GWill and JGibbs with the deep pockets of DSnuts |
Re: Ryan Clark
ive seen how much AA is making. im gonna wait to see clark's paycheck before determing who's the better deal. i'd like to see clark back though.
