Latest on LaVar

Yes, another LaVar thread.

The latest from slobby P.

Another exiled veteran, former Washington Redskins standout linebacker LaVar Arrington, surfaced in Miami on Friday, meeting with Dolphins officials in the first of what figures to be several exploratory visits for the three-time Pro Bowl performer. It wasn't all that unusual for Arrington to be in South Florida, since he has close friends there, and frequently drops in for weekend stays. What is notable is that Arrington is very close to Miami linebackers coach George Edwards, for whom he once played in Washington, and the presence of the assistant coach might give the Dolphins some advantage in the recruitment of Arrington. Make no mistake, despite the career setback Arrington suffered in 2005, when he batted the Washington front office and coaching staff, and appeared in just four games, there are a lot of teams curious about him. He will visit with the New York Giants next, where middle linebacker and former Washington teammate Antonio Pierce is passionately lobbying team officials to consider him, and Arrington now has generated varying degrees of interest from more than 10 franchises.

A lot of teams are going to perform their due diligence on Arrington, to see if his game has slipped, or if the Redskins' orchestrated bashing of their former star is ax-grinding with a guy who charged that owner Dan Snyder shorted him $6.5 million on the eight-year, $68 million contract extension he signed late in the 2003 season.

The likelihood is that no team is going to break open the vault for Arrington but that, at age 27, he might get a short-term, incentive-laden deal that gives him the chance to make some money if he regains his previous stature. If several teams are in the hunt for him, the presence of Edwards on Nick Saban's staff could give the Dolphins an edge.

Add to that the Browns say they are no longer interested, but the Bengals have surfaced as a potential suitor.

Oh, that's funny...I thought Marvin Lewis hated him. He couldn't play within the system...blah, blah, blah. Obviously Lewis saw something he liked...

It sounds like maybe Marvin Lewius was slow playing us a bit with the Lavar sound bytes.

It's on bengals.com, but it says that Carl Poston says the Bengals have interest in his client. Which could be a bunch of bull, just an agent trying to drive up interest in his player

Re: Latest on LaVar

Poston is pushing the rumor that a "dozen" teams are interested in Lavar. This may be true because many owners would love to show Snyder up if Lavar could break out. How many football people have an interest may be another story.

That hasn't been my impression of Saban's program so far. Miami would be a good spot for him. They have had a great defense for years.

I really don't think that is the case that owners would love to show up Snyder. If Arrington could help any team better that is the way they[owners] would look at it! Arrington needs to learn how to play on a team style D. This NFL type of D counts on each player doing his job. It is not LT type D play these days. I think Miami would be a good fit for Lavar!

That is a pretty expensive way to try and get even with Snyder. I don't see any grudges getting involved in this.

maybe. geoege is the guy who was terrible here and let players run rampant and do whatever they wanted though, hence the #25 ranking :(

Mike Garafolo, of the Star-Ledger, reports free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) had several meetings with New York Giants coaches and members of the front office as well as taking a physical. His agent, Carl Poston, said late Sunday afternoon, March 12, that the two sides had yet to begin contract discussions. Poston was waiting to get a full report from Arrington before deciding to talk numbers with the Giants. Poston said eight other teams are interested in Arrington, but Arrington has not scheduled any more visits.

I think Lavar wants to end up in the NFC east. He'll take the Gmen over Philly or Dallas. I do think Miami will swoon him, but the Gmen have playoff possiblities next season. Miami for all purposes does not. Final decision will be money, but don't think he'd love to have a shot on Brunell. GL to Lavar and to everyone's #56 jerseys!

Not really.
And who will be the QB?
Maybe Fielder will be back?
Ricky will be outta football and the team will continue to dredge the bottoms of the sea.

I agree that Miami has a real good shot at the playoffs next year. It is no secret that they need a QB, once they find one they may be dangerous...

that guy,i usually agree with you,but not the statement about lavar going to miami so he can do whatever he wants.the so called year arrington did whatever he wanted got him 11 sacks,100 tackles and a trip to the pro bowl,so in the right defense he could still be the man.and im not even a big arrington fan

the 11 sack year marvin lewis rode him hard. the george (do what you want) year we finished 25th in defense and he definately didn't have 11 sacks.

If true, expect the pundits to have an anti-Redskin field day. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if our home opener was against the Giants.

Sounds like a good Monday night matchup. Are those already set?
