Is Patten Gone?
Assuming the report on ESPN was legit, and that Jacobs is already packing his bags...is Patten heading out of DC? Because of last seasons injuries, and lackluster performance when he wasn't injuried, I think he is gone.
|
Re: Is Patten Gone?
I don't know that we can rush to that decision quite yet about patten, jacobs however is done. Last year we had NOOOOO depth at wideout and when patten got injured our offense suffered. I would prefer to keep Thrash over patten though because of his great special teams play.
|
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Regarding contracts, Patten has to stay. Considering upside (notwithstading) Jacobs would be the one.
|
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Cutting Patten would only save us about 647K. So I think he stays this year at least.
Poor guy came to DC because he was the 4th guy in NE, and look at him now, 4th guy in DC. |

Re: Is Patten Gone?
Patten will be here, why get rid of quality depth? That would be dumb.

I agree, he wasn't used as a #2 in NE. I hope he can deal with moving back to #4 this year. I think it's probably a better idea to hang on to him judging from what happened last year when he went down. I know you can have too many egos at WR, but I now don't think that you can have too many bodies |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Patten is a Redskins type of player, not afraid to do the physical dirty work. He is a keeper.
Jacobs on the other had is a wimp and does not like to mix it up with the DB's. Send that wuss back to Florida. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
No James Thrash and Jacobs are toast. Gibbs got rid of Coles, Gardner and McCants and only replaced the 1# position and really didn't have the players to replace the 2#and 3# spots. If Patten stays he's a number 4# respectfully. I think Al Saunders will utilize all of these guys in offensive packages in the same way as Gregg Williams did with the defense.

Re: Is Patten Gone?
Patten actually was the Pats' #2 WR before he cam here.

Givens, Branch & Troy Brown were ahead of him. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
wait first for the training camp, after that Dibbs will make the decision
|
Re: Is Patten Gone?
cutting thrash saves us more money than cutting patten. cutting brown and jacobs save us more than patten.
patten is probably staying. thrash brown and jacobs are all probably gone (1.9mill in savings) seriously who would you rather have? a 500-800yard WR or 3 guys that totalled close to 100 yards this season. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
patten was #3 in NE...but in 2004 when branch got hurt, he was #2 and he played pretty well
|

I agree that he probably will be here but I'm not sure he'll be happy. He obviously was not happy with his opportunities last year, now they may be even fewer. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Givens, Branch & Troy Brown were ahead of him.
Branch went down and Patten stepped in as the #2. Troy Brown was #4 on the depth chart; dude hasn't been a serious wideout in years. Givens: 56 receptions, 874 yards, 3 TDs Patten: 44 receptions, 800 yards, 7 TDs Branch: 35 receptions, 454 yards, 4 TDs (only played 9 games) Brown: 17 receptions, 184 yards, 1 TD |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
My guess is Patten stays and it's a wide open competition for spots. Thrash seems superfluous with Randal-el's specials abilities, but Gibbs LOVES Thrash, so he may find a way to keep him.
We'll see! |

Re: Is Patten Gone?
Patten will make a mighty fine #4
Sounds like Saunders will be running alot of 3 WR sets, so depth will be important. Patten will be back. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
I think we cant just put Lloyd over Patten just yet. I think the line up is Moss,R-EL,Patten with Lloyd as the 4th receiver. Lloyd is under a previous contract and HE may not like the situation and decide to bounce when the contract is up. He was just added insurance. Patten is exceptional in 3 wide receiver sets, Lloyd may not like going from 9ers #1 to Superbowl bound Redskin #4

whenever a guy gets traded he gets a new contract. happened with portis, happened with moss. we gave up 2 picks, there's no way he's not getting locked into a 6 or 7 year deal. talent wise its moss, lloyd (whos the only leaper/jump ball guy), and patten/Randle (patten might be a better receiver, but R'El might help more with reverses and fakes and such). |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Lloyd will definitely be the #3 at least, possibly the #2.
I think there will be a good competition for the #2 between Lloyd and Randle El. Patten will be on the outside looking in, picking up whatever scraps are left behind. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
Either way or whatever happens, I like our "New" stable of speedster WR's...
|
Re: Is Patten Gone?
We are making a 2006 version of the triplets. Randel El will also return punts. The skins are going to cause opposing defenses nightmares~they will have so many different looks it will be hard to pinpoint how to stop them. Patten stays, jacobs is gone

Lloyd was a number one. R-El was second on the depth chart but at the end of the season was their third option and designated trick play guy. Lloyd is the #2. No question about it. I think it is possible that Patten could end up third with R-El fourth. It is a nice problem to have. |

Re: Is Patten Gone?
You guys are disagreeing over an unknown. Nobody knows where they will be on the depth chart on openning day. The only sure thing is Moss at #1 WR, everything else is up for grabs. Gibbs is big on competition at camp. Lloyd and El are not going to be just handed starting jobs, they have to earn them in camp and preseason.
Ask Sean Taylor, TAylor is a higher rated player then any of our receivers and it took Taylor a month to earn starting status. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
about ST, what is the deal with his situation now(sorry to ask an always popular question, but I just do not want to start another thread and get hated forever).

No he wasn't he was the # 3 or 4. Branch was 1 and Givens was two. |

in 2003, but Patten only played 6 games that year. in 2004, Givens was #1 and Patten #2 (Branch only played 9 games that year) In 2001 and 2002 Patten was the #2 to Troy Brown |

MUCH too soon to say. Team needs depth in each position as well as starters and Patten, Lloyd and Randle-El gives you that. Lloyd hasn't seen a playbook, or run a pass pattern in practice yet. He's likely to displace Patten at number 2 and maybe challenge for number 1 (wouldn't that be something), but no one knows until they suit up and you get time in games. Gone? Not likely. |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
I think it makes sense to hang on to Patten as a #4.. We see how a long season can take a few recievers out for a couple of weeks. And I'm a Gator, but Jacobs is a Pussywillow... He missed his window of success, now its all metal, so gatta go, gatta go!!! No need to cut someone like Patten at his salary then sign another reciever (3) or draft one with the few picks.

I wouldn't mind |
Re: Is Patten Gone?
No question that David Patten will be back. No reason to let him go. Especially with the talent added this weekend. Jacobs might attempt to make a go of training camp, but more likely will hope to get on another team and turn his career around. As for WR order we'll have to wait and see who compliments Redskins recordbreaker Santana Moss! Can't wait!
