Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Great moves! Good moves I'll wait til the season starts to judge I'm not happy, it's 2000 all over again Other |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
i think its 2000 all over again as far as the spending is concerned, but i believe that we are getting some great young talent. i do think the players will make a great impact that weve signed, im just worried about future cap constraints.

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Keep it up Danny Boy! Keep it up! Next on the menu, defensive end.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
good i guess... i'll have to see R'El's stats at the end of the year though. i think lloyd will show up (and hope his "issues" stay away). R'El may become a vastly overpaid kick returner, but we'll see.
also, we don't have numbers on fauria, know who or how much on a DE or have the numbers on adam yet (who i didn't think was a real need for his cost, but GW apparently did). I AM happy that everyone targetted has been 27 and under (lloyd at 24 is a coup talent wise if he can learn to catch a bit more consistantly and keep his mouth closed). |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I'm going to hold onto my vote until after today.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Great start. If we can address DE and CB through either the draft or free agency yet, I'll be a truly happy camper.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Great moves.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I'm reserving my opinion until the season starts - let's say five games. But on paper, who can argue with these moves. This certainly catapaults as Super Bowl contender.
The only thing is while you can replace players and bodies, chemistry goes a long, long way to winning titles. I hope making these moves won't tamper with the chemistry too much. And furthermore, I hope the Skins can stay hungry going into to /06. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I love most of the moves. Get a LB and DE along with a back up QB. Trade Ramsey for a fair pick or picks and then get depth in the draft! What a off season!
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think they're "good" moves. Neither Randle El nor Lloyd have ever even sniffed a 1000 yard season. But they are young and have upside. The amount of signing bonus getting paid to these guys worries me a bit. They need to pan out. I feel good about Randle El because he's a solid guy, but Lloyd's attitude worries me a bit. Hopefully Gibbs applies his magic touch and keeps him from causing problems.
I like Archuleta and Fauria is a good signing as an in-line blocker. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
personally i think lloyd will be the one who works out. its good to get these young guys around gibbs early. if anything weve shown with our personnel moves last year that we dont put up with crap.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think we have made good moves that suit our needs but I am still concerned about which players we are going to have to release to be under the cap. The most important thing is resigning the players on last year's team that made a big impact.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think that even if the players we've gotten play like they have in the past (with no improvement), we've upgraded the team. If they get better, the team will be much improved!
Out of all the pickups, I think RE is the most intrigueing. He seems to be a very good football player (not WR, KR, RB, QB), but a football player. It think its good to have guys (Sean Taylor, Mike Sellers, Cooley) like that on the team. I love his versatility. I think that Lloyd will be a very good pickup. He's only 6', but man can he leap! I definitely don't mind giving up a 3rd and a 4th for him, either. Archuleta is one that I'm kind of mixed on. I don't really know much about him, but never really thought that Ryan Clark was the solution at safety anyway. 25 always seemed like a good guy, and I always hate to see those kind of guys go, but if AA comes through and really helps the team, I doubt any of us will be saying, 'man, i wish ryan clark was out there playing - he was always such a nice guy'. One of my biggest concerns at this point is OL depth. We need some. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
another thing that might be important is signing our rookies!

A trade or two and we will not have any picks in the draft to needed money! |

I'm sure that the rookie salary cap pool is not an afterthought here. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think the players we have could perfom better if there was some consistency around them. If they could learn how to play with each other rather than having to learn how to play with a new player every year we might be able to develop consistent success rather than intermitent success.
We have made good moves but they shouldn't be in lieu of keeping our core players. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I like the signings of Archuleta and Fauria. However, I'm not sure how I feel about Randle El and Lloyd. I feel like we overpaid for both. I also don't like how we had to give up 2 draft picks for Lloyd. I also doubt we'll be able to keep three wideouts happy that they are getting enough balls thrown their way.
But, ultimately, Gibbs knows what he is doing. Also, after seeing how we've managed to evade cap hell for all these years, I'll give the Redskins front office the benefit of the doubt that we can stay out of cap hell. |

What do we need to save for our rookie salary cap pool? What, $5 and a happy meal? |

Yeah, pretty much. :D |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I'll wait and see. I think we overpaid for Randel El even though I think he's a great talent. I thought Patten could have been a great #3 option given the chance and we spent $ on him 1 year ago. Personally, i think we could have signed 1 wr and spent the $ elsewhere. But, I'll trust Gibbs on these and wait on the results.

i get the toy!!!!

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I like all the moves so far and hope we complete the deal with Carter. If we sign Jeff Mitchell for depth, then the only thing we haven't addressed is a quality 3rd corner (IMHO, and in an ideal world, our 3rd corner is good enough to be the No.2 corner simply b/c of the number of teams that are 3 deep at WR nowadays).
One thing to notice about the defensive guys we are pursuing (Carter, Archuletta), each is extremely versatile. Archuletta was a LB in college and, coming out, they were talking about playing him in a variety of positions, including TE. Carter is a DE/OLB tweener. I am betting that GW is planning on REALLY mixing it up next year if he can get both these guys. W/ the versatile weapons they are giving Saunders on offense (Cooley, Sellers, R-El) and Williams on defense, I predict that opposing teams are gonna get slammed coming and going, and, just when they think they got it figured out, Saunders and GW will change it up on them. How long before opening day? |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
reading this stuff about archuleta makes me think hes a lot like roy williams. plays well against the run, has a "few" problems in coverage, but overall is a pretty good player. im pumped to have him. and seriously, not being a homer, i can see a top 3 offense next year.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Cool deal! Were picking up some big time talent and NOT supplying ANY to anyone else.

Top three as long as the depth on the OL is up graded!!! :coach: |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
true, im feeling the skins signing that mitchell guy and drafting some OL depth.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I said it's good so far, but we need what the team has needed for years in a young passrushing de before I can say it's been great.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
i love these moves... I mentioned that we should target these players before the start of free agency and everyone said I had no concept of the cap situation and we couldn't afford these players. hahahaha who doesn't know what their talking about now?
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
age, age and upside is the reason why we should all be happy.
Deion, Carrier, George, Smith, they were all past their prime |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think that these have been great moves so far. I have noted that OL and LB must be addressed to complete the areas of need, but they are positions that are easier to fill than WR with what is available out there.
I see we are talking to the Jets about Abraham. I wonder if we can package Ramsey, Patten or Betts, and a draft pick from next year to get him? |

I too initially thought we overpaid for Randel El, and that may still be the case. But after reading through a few posts, especially Guy's, you have to consider that the market has gone up since the new CBA agreement. A year ago for the same dollars probably wouldn't have made sense, but I think we gave him what he was going to end up getting somewhere else, just packaged differently. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Great moves. We filled glaring holes on offense, which we desperately needed.
This is not 2000. In 2000, we signed the entire 1992 All-Madden team whether they really filled needs or not. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think in 2000 Snyder wanted to do two things at once. Sign big names to help the team and sign big names to sell merchendise. As bad of a flop as the first part was, it did keep people coming to the stadium and buying skins stuff. Because of that, partly, we have plenty of money to pay for who ever we want now.
|
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
and because of that many people have deion jerseys that you can only use to stuff in a bottle with some kerosene and styrofoam.

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I like the moves purely from a talent perspective, but like 12th man I have concerns w/chemistry, not just between players. I hope that all Danny, Vinny & Gibbs are really on the same pg. & the danny's not just using his power & $ to sign big against the advice of the coaching staff. But Gibbs has not been adverse to signing vets in the past & as already pointed out, we did get young guys.
B. Loyd worries me a bit & I hope Patten can stay. I also hope we can re-sign Clark, but maybe they acted quickly w/archuleta cause talks were going nowhere w/clark. Clark seemed to be a good guy & he turned his career around here. I hate to see guys leave that have done a good job & I don't think its good for the team to lose them, even if their replacement is better on the field. Its just not good for chemistry, but we'll have to see. If it weren't Gibbs I would be more concerned. |
Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
good moves and i will keep it at that.
now lets upgrade the DL a little more like the punter. all in all i,m happy...i want results..... |
