these contracts have to be back loaded

Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
This is pure rumor. Thus far, I have heard nothing close to being concrete on the issue. Vinny said on RedskinsTV that we were looking to sign about 1 other big-name free agent ... and a few hours later we signed Carter. I think we're about done with new starters.
Lloyd, Randle El, Archuleta, and Carter are the only big-names we are going to sign. |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
yeah sheriff, you tell em. enjoy March Madness, and get ready for the draft pick's we have + plus what low level one we get for PR

I would rather spend that money on young depth. But I wouldnt cry to hard if the crazy f's did something like that.

I dissagree. We need all of the pass rushers we can afford. This position was the main position we needed to feel on the off-season. With Ramsey in the agreement it shouldn't cost the Redskins a lot for Abraham. I think Abraham will be a Redskins by tommorrow. |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
With very little passrush, GW was capable of making a top 5 defense. With two BIG UPGRADES at the End spots, the defense can only get better. More linebackers could drop into coverage et cetera et cetera. We all know how defense works.
Games are won and lost in the trenches. If the redskins pick up John A. , i would imagine that renaldo wynn would be cut later on. I think it is a very good move if it happens; draft day might be a bore though. |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
fear, uncertainty, doubt.
be afraid. if we get him, we will end up releasing player starting sooner rather than later. It might just be one big contract too many. at this point i think i rather fill the 3 2nd tier holes and hope campbell doesn't suck. JA is a talent, but also a bit of a bad apple, and he wants to be PAID. |

the skins said they'd be looking for C/OG in the draft. at DE in the 2nd round, you're going to get an incomplete player (most of the time), but at OG or C or TE or CB or LB or RB you can get a good starter or key reserve. |

come on where in the hell are the skins gettin all this money??

tags and snyder must have a real special relationship, i think the skins are strait up cheating the system this is getting ridculus
Let me explain it to you a simply as it was explained on NFL Network: 1. 4.5 Million return from Lavar Arrington was credited to the cap. 2. Massive re-structuring of Brunell, Portis and Springs contract. Approximately 10 millions dollars. 3.7.5 million CBA extension agreement. 4.Released 5 players. 5. And last but not least.... We stretch the signing bonus out through the duration of the contract, so that only 1.5 million qualifies against the cap. We offer a sought of credit agreement that guarantees the player his bonus through the duration of the contract. The reason the Redskins will not have salary cap problems is because it raises to 109 million next year and will certainly conitnue to increase as the NFL grows. This is brilliant negiotations for this organization that other teams seem to lack. Others teams wait until the players visit them, while the Redskins send a private jet to wherever they are and tell them exactly where they see them playing in the team. Hail to the Redskins! |

Why would they get mad? They didn't give up one cent. They end up with more guaranteed money. |

you think we are going to hold on to brunell once we don't need him because he took a pay cut for now? i'm not thinking he's going to see his contract to the end |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
you think we are going to hold on to brunell once we don't need him because he took a pay cut for now?
i'm not thinking he's going to see his contract to the end
Definitely not. When he originally signed it they said it was basically a 3 year deal. They want Campbell to be the starter but it won't be right away in 06. I am sure that Brunell doesn't mind all of the new toys though. |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
the massive restructure was samuels bonus and re-prorating his original SB. the brunell, springs adn protis restructures were pulled back when the new cba passed. they could have done a restructure since, but no one's made any note of it.
most of the money came from turning all bonuses into SB to prorate it. our salaries go up much faster than the cap projects to at this point, and without a new tv contract or something else major, this is basically our team for a few years. you can't do this every year, but last year we let two good starters walk and our big signings were rabach (average C, masive upgrade) and patten (#2/#3 WR). |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?

true it's nice for him to have more reciever help but he wont be getting as much as his original contract before being restructured. it seems like the had some overkill in their signings and it seems like itd be more personal that these core players did it more to keep the team together instead of change the team around a lot. sometimes change is better sometimes its not. on paper it looks like it was best but we wont know untill they play together. |

are you sure cuz i'm pretty sure they still restructured his contract. sunra said earlier in the post: "2. Massive re-structuring of Brunell, Portis and Springs contract. Approximately 10 millions dollars." i'm guessing brunell is gonna be around for this and next season i dun think he's gonna be gettin paid more next year with us using him less and if he does i think we'll cut him for cap space. Dan Snyder wouldn't hold on to someone because they helped us out just to pay him back. He's a business man. |
Re: Abraham gonna be a skin?!?!?!?!?!?
it sucks they don't show contracts cuz i don't understand how they got the cap space they must be screwing themselves for the future if they aren't just pay cutting people and doing it year after year.

ALL that info said contingent on a dead cba, which obviously didn't happen. we got closer to 16$mill in restructures, but it was bonus money to prorated signing bonus type stuff. and you're right, it has the chance to hurt us in the long run. the total contract cost increases quite a bit faster than the cap, meaning cuts or more restructures. the skins can win as long as they can plan it so the backloaded parts hit when new tv contracts or increased labor caps occur. that's what happened this year (a dead cba would have been awful for us though). |

A restructure to get to a lower cap number does NOT equal pay cut under most circumstances. Most of the time, it ends up with more guaranteed $$ for the player. |

If it was done as a normal restructure - no. sooner or later the money will count against the cap but instead of it all counting this year its spread out over the remaining years. If he gets cut early, the remaining portoin that has not been accounted through proration is accelerated. He has gotten all his money, it's just a questoin of when it counts against the cap. No matter how you cut it. when we let him go (most likely after this year or next) - it will be a pretty big hit. So long as we restructure and extend a couple of the younger guys in a couple years we'll be alright. |
o ok so then its gonna count over the years? and we can cut brunell later and not have to pay him all of it right?
you always have to pay the acculmulated bonus money that's already actually been paid to the player. Roster bonuses that aren't yet due and base salaries do not have to be paid from the date the player is cut onwards. |

Chris Samuels It just means you are more likely to get hit with a sizeable bonus write-off penalty (dead cap space) somewhere inside of five years from now. |
