Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Steelers | Team signs R. Clark
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 15:37:20 -0800 Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent S Ryan Clark (Redskins) to a four-year contract. No financial terms were disclosed.
Good luck, Ryan. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
OH NO!
He was a warrior and hard hitter. We will miss him.......... |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I agree Brud. Good luck Ryan Clark. You were kind of a surprise success story in Washington. Just don't let Troy "pretty boy" Polamalu outshine you. ;)
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Ryan you get my 10 gun salute. I thought he was one of the most underrated redskins. Him and taylor meshed well together. Good luck to him in pittsburgh.
hmm on the other hand we don't have a smiley of a circley shooting a gun. Oh well. |

Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
He may get cut. I would be shocked if he starts for them.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
All the best to Ryan Clarke. He should supplant Hope in the starting lineup.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Good Luck to Ryan Clark. I will always remember that int. he had against Philly this year that sealed the win for us.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Good luck to Clark. He grew up here and became a really solid player. Hate to see him go.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
son of a bitch...

he wouldn't have signed if he wasn't going to start... that's the only thing he was looking for. hope is leaving and he's the cheap replacement. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I feel the same way Big C !
Well there goes my depth on Madden next year! |

People get signed all the time that don't start. You think that he went to the current Superbowl champs and said that he wouldn't sign unless he is starting? Don't forget, he was flat out cut by the Giants. |

Don't forget, he was flat out cut by the Giants.
i think his point was that clark only went there because he knew he would start, otherwise he would have just stayed here. im guessing he was told he would be the starter, because otherwise it wouldnt make sense him leaving here |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Just so that everyone knows, Clark signed a four-year contracts, and most contracts of this length come with some sort of signing bonus. So essentially, I do not think that Ryan Clark has to worry about being cut (especially because the guy plays hard). Starting may be another issue, but I see Ryan Clark starting alongside Polamalu next year.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
its already been reported now he's expected to start and hope is not expected to return.
4 years, 7$mill with a $1.7mill SB. |

Don't forget, he was flat out cut by the Giants.
The dude played well last season, Arch is an upgrade to Clark, but Clark was a good player, could cover and hit. If he doesn't start he'll still get a good amount of playing time. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I wish him the best, I hope learns how to avoid stiff arms(i.e. the Seattle game) before the season starts, lol. All jokes aside, he was definately an up and coming redskin.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I hope he does well, and I liked him as a player, but to be perfectly frank Archuleta represents a significant upgrade over him. And I'm satisfied with Prioleau as the 3rd safety.
He served us well, but I'm looking forwards not backwards. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Godspeed, Ryan Clark. Thank you for your effort here!

amen, im a ryan clark fan. however... i'm a bigger archuletta fan :) |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Yep, Thanks alot to Ryan Clark for all he did here. I'll never forget the Monday Nighter vs Dallas last year when someone said "Why the hell do we have a guy named Ryan Clark on the team, and why is he in the game?" After he blew the Glenn TD! LOL, for some reason I found that quote halarious.
All jokes aside, I really liked Clark, and will probably never forget the INT he had against phiilly. He was a great charachter and a tough player and I hope he has a great career in Pittsburgh. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
Well, knock Ryan Clark waaaay down on my list of players I like. Check this comment out:
"It's a wonderful day," Clark said. "I was at the airport, swinging my terrible towel. I was with a team with a great fan base now -- they're going to hate me for this -- but I'm with a team with an even better one. The beauty of it is I'm coming to a team that's already great. I'll just try to fit in and be part of this great organization." ... The note about him is at the bottom: http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20060315-120451-8622r.htm |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I still don't see this as all that exciting. I watch every 'Skins game from start to finish. When Ryan Clark is in the game I don't sit at the edge of my seat thinking "Oh, hell yeah, here we go!" He was serviceable and played well. Can't knock that against him. But between he and Prioleau I'll flip a coin and take either one as a backup to ST and AA; even Bowen if he were still on the team. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong Philly game but if the INT everyone is talking about was the one that McNabb through into his chest at the very end of the game then it didn't seem very "must keep this guy" memorable to me. I'll take a look at the highlight games and see if I'm mistaken.
|
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I wish him luck but honestly I don't really care that he's gone. Solid player, but not a key player on our defense that isn't replaceable.

what do you expect him to say? "This team sucks, the redskin's are the only team in the nfl worth caring about, and i'm sorry you gave me a multi-million dollar contract."? I mean really, everyone talks about how the steeler fans travel the best etc anyways, so its not like he's lying through his teeth. |

I expect him to be gracious. There is absolutely no reason why he needs to say that the Steelers' fan base is better than ours. He can just say he's excited to play in a town with a great fan base, he's excited to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, and leave it at that. The comment about our fan base was entirely unnecessary and unsolicited. |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
then i shall respond. this is similar to the patten situation. i say im sure he thinks all that stuff and he has the right to say all that stuff, but when i HEAR it as a human and a fan it makes me lose a notch of respect. i still wish him well, just not as well as i WOULD have wished him.

Hes giving the people at his new team something to root for. As a pro athelete you have to say the right things to whatever team/fans you're playing for. In closing, I agree with That Guy =p |
Re: Steelers sign Ryan Clark
I agree he's just saying what any player does when signed to a new team. They always talk it up as being a better situation, and for him how can you disagree? He wasn't going to start anymore here that's for sure. At least in Pitt he'll have a shot.

Its no big deal, lloyd trashed the 49ers already (they haven't won a lot of games lately), arch thrashed the rams (we finished 30th in defense), so we should be on their arse about it too right? |

In closing, I agree with That Guy =p
im not even saying i disagree. im just saying thats how i feel. no one is saying its right or wrong, and not even saying that i expect him to act differently, its basically someone taking a shot at your team and its fanbase and whether its true or not, its still something you dont like to hear. |

The ESPN article I read said that they expect him to be their starter at FS, I suppose replacing Chris Hope. I hope he got a great contract, he was a real Redskin! |
