Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
Cap Sheets
Here's some notes on the latest cap sheets: NOT INCLUDED - Lloyd - his contract has not yet been officially recorded. Probably because we only have like $500K of cap room right now. - Portis - I haven't made any changes to Portis' contract. - Killings INCLUDED - new salary mins - 2006 option bonuses - I adjusted the prorations on the option bonuses due to Moss, Rabach, Samuels, Rogers. - voided LTBEs - I removed the bogus LTBEs from Samuels, Rabach, Patten, Wynn. - Lavar's deadcap - I used a conservative figure of $8M for Arrington's deadcap charge. It's probably closer to $7.8M. - RFA tenders - I included the $712K tender amounts for Dockery, Jimoh, C.Clemons. - restructures - I included the recent restructures of Washington and Griffin. - cap credits - I included $176K of cap credits carried over from 2005. - new contracts - I included all the salaries for the recent signings but had to make some assumptions regarding the bonus money. I used Archuleta's deal as a base ($5M up front, 5 $1M option bonuses) and used similar numbers for Randle El and Carter. I have not yet added any bonus money for Cartwright, Campbell, Fauria. Well this should keep you guys busy for a while. I'll keep adding updates as more info becomes available. And I wanted to give a shout out to the Redskins cap guy(s) at Scout.com http://redskins.scout.com/index.html. Through their articles and cap sheets I'm able to piece together most of the Skins' moves, especially when it comes to bonus money. Their info is the most reliable anywhere. So thanks again to Robert Large/PCinOZ and the rest of the cap guys over there. - Crazy Canuck- |

He voided the final year of his previous contract. He later "signed" his RFA tender. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
Redskins Notes: The deals for Archuleta, Randle El and Carter are nearly identical, all worth roughly $30 million over six years, with a $5 million signing bonus and between $4 million and $5 million in roster bonuses due in March 2007, according to a league source. The players make the minimum in base salary in the early years of the contract, and all three carry cap figures of about $1.5 million in 2006 and $2.5 million in 2007, with Carter counting $5 million in 2008 and Randle El and Archuleta counting about $4 million each. . . . Fauria received a $190,000 signing bonus, according to a source, and will make $810,000 in 2006 and $1 million in 2007. Collins received a $450,000 signing bonus and will make $810,000 this season and $1.25 million in the final year of his deal. . . . Free agent defensive end Demetric Evans visited San Francisco yesterday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, and has two more visits planned next week.

Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
so collins counts 1.035mill in 2006 and 1.475mill in 2007
fauria is 905k in 2006 and 1.095mill in 2007 i think the first year on the new guys is going to be closer to 1.6mill since they have to earn 585k in vet min (i believe) |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
"restructuring the contracts of running back Clinton Portis, cornerback Shawn Springs, linebacker Marcus Washington and defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin, according to the source, saving a total of $9.4 million in cap space with those moves..."
did you include springs restructure? you mentioned the other three, but not his. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06

nah, i love them and i think i probably get more use out of them than anyone else here ;) but the more up to date the better ;) |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
SO if the redskins are only 500K under the cap, how are they going to fill out the roster?
Don't get mad at me for I am intellectually limited with the Cap and numbers in general |
SO if the redskins are only 500K under the cap, how are they going to fill out the roster?
Don't get made at me for I am intellectually limited with the Cap and numbers in general
those cap sheets aren't quite up to date yet, though they're much closer now. ramsey is gone, that's another 1.7mill, also portis and springs restructured and neither is reflected in the cap sheets yet (nor is fauria's signing bonus); killings and lloyd aren't on there either since killings numbers aren't known and lloyd doesn't have a new contract yet. Also, only the top 51 salaries count, even though something like 69 names are on the list right now. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
Is is acurate that there is no dead cap for '07? I know that will most likely change but it would be a good sign.

Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
There has been quite a bit of discussion about how that Archuletta is paid more than any safety in the history of man (shout out to D'Boyz) and how we overpaid for him because he isn't the greatest safety since the introduction of the helmet, yada, yada yada.
But if you look at his deal, $20 mill of his $32 mill deal is salary that comes in 2K9 through 2k12. That is money which is not guaranteed and he is not going to see. He received an SB of $10 mil. By comparison, ST received $11.675 mil in bonus money on a deal he signed two years ago. If it isn't guaranteed, it isn't real. Therefore, ST is more highly paid than Archuletta. Yes, Archuletta may have the biggest CONTRACT for a safety in history, but he is nowhere close to being the highest PAID safety in history. No, I don't expect any Cowboys fan to be able to grasp these concepts. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
archuletta only got a 5$mill signing bonus. the rest are yearly option bonuses.

That's right. I just scour the net for new cap articles (thank god for RSS). When the new articles run out I come back to the Warpath to discuss Brunell vs. Ramsey vs. Campbell vs. Collins vs. Randle El. |

Just a note about the Rule of 51 - I do factor it in. At the bottom of the CapSummary sheet, you'll see a row called "Less: 52 to end" where I subtract the bottom players' cap hits to account for this rule. I guess maybe I'll rename that row "Rule of 51". |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
Thanks cunuck for all the hard work you do. I use those cap sheets all the time.

killer, thanks. yeah that was straight from a redskins notes section at the end of a daily article. I have no specifics on the springs or portis restructure other then something's been done. I assume the springs bonus got prorated, but that's just a guess. portis has some weird stuff in his contract, so i'm not sure about anything there. btw, can you explain the weird bonus hits on arch etc? 1mill this year, then like 1.4, then 1.9 then 1.4... I don't quite understand whats going on there. |

Well for now I gave him 5 $1M option bonuses starting in 2007. Each of these gets prorated. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
alright, so its one 5mill SB prorated over five years, and then 5 1$mill bonuses and the weird jumps is just them overlapping each other.
|

Exactly. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
I don't believe they have a extension agreed upon yet for Lloyd so his cap hit now is the 1st rd tender he signed with SF.
http://www.nflpa.org/Media/playerProfile.asp?ID=34535 I think I read they guaranteed the roster bonuses for Springs and Portis. They couldn't include salary and guarantee and prorate it because they were already making the minimum. |
Re: Cap Sheet Update 3/17/06
lloyd will end up with a deal though... i don't think they want to risk him having a coming out party and being forced to pay for it.
maybe they're weighing his attitude stuff too right now (as far as special contract clauses). who knows... |
