Larry Allen: Should we sign him
If there is an opportunity to sign
him we should get this ex boys |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
It depends on how much he money he is going to want. My kneejerk reaction would be to say yes and let Dockery be the depth for us. However, Larry Allen isn't getting any younger and I don't think there's any way you can convince a guy like him to come in and be a back up. Dockery's young and is improving. I don't know if bringing Larry Allen would help Dockery or hurt him. Allen is an experienced vet who is great when he's healthy, however, he'll probably be too rich for us and I don't know that we necessarily need a starter.

Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Hell no. Injured, overpaid, overweight, former Cowboy..
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
haha he might be injured, overpaid, and overwieght but he benches more than u can even think of and is a solid vet and been to the probowl consistintly.....but he is a excowboy
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
you gotta be careful when your "critical backups" are high injury risks... and the older they get, the harder it is to heal quickly.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
No Cowboys!Dont care if Danny white came back to play and want to join the skins No Cowboys!
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Bad Idea...we're not that desperate.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him

He benches like 700lbs, and the plus side is he could probably eat the opponents, I am sure thats some kind of penalty tho.... |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
uh...should we sign troy aikman or emmitt smith while we are at it? hell no, no cowboys
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
He is probably better than Samuels and Dockery combined but I agree with the negatives already mentioned.
I hope someone takes him away from the Boys. Their line would be crippled. |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
he isnt better than samuels and dockery combined...maybe 5 years ago but not anymore
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
id have a hard time seein ol' larry in a skins uniform ala lavar know what i mean?
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
He is old and has lost a step. I wouldn't take a chance on him.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
First off he is a great football player. Yes he is getting up there in years and that is why we will pass on him. He most likely wouldn't come here anyway. That being a Cowboy thing. Where he will go is Seattle!
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
l allen isnt a great football player anymore.close to m vick as being one of the most over rated players in the league.too old, injury prone, and definitly wants too much money.i agree if he signs elsewhere dallas line has alot of holes to plug.the human statue(bledsoe)might have T.O. to throw to,but no time to do it

Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
3. Jon Runyan, OT, Philadelphia Eagles – Runyan visited the Jets on Tuesday, as it continues to look like the Eagles have little interest in bringing him back. The Jets have a void at right offensive tackle that Runyan could fill, as do the Ravens, and it's believed that Runyan wants to remain on the East coast to stay relatively close to his New Jersey home. So don't rule out the Patriots. His age (32) and inconsistency last season are both concerns.
4. Stephen Neal, G, New England Patriots – Neal has spent time with the Vikings, Texans and Bills. There is a strong possibility the Seahawks will dip into free agency for a guard now that Steve Hutchinson is gone. Neal turns 30 in October, but he could be a serviceable starter for a few more years. 5. Tom Ashworth, OT, New England Patriots – Ashworth continues to make the rounds. By the time he signs, he may have visited as many as a half-dozen teams. The Jets and Texans remain strong possibilities, but Ashworth may not sign until after Runyan's situation has sorted itself out. He turns 29 in October, and like Neal, could be plugged in and perform solidly at right tackle. He's not a big-splash signing, but there aren't any of those left in the tackle pool. The top three OL from Yahoo! sports. Uh, I don't see L. Allen. Sorry, I do not know how to provide links. |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Dude is like 100 years old now and seems to always be banged up.
I'll pass. Great career though. |

If he really benches 700 pounds, and it's not an exaggeration, I'll show you my nuts. Lol |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
i can pass on the nuts but i saw a clip of him benching the 700lbs.

Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Dockery may be a question mark - or he may not. While not our best O-lineman, he would start for most teams, he's young and cheap(-ish), and might end up getting better. There is mathematically no chance of Larry Allen improving as an offensive lineman, which means we'd be paying for declining results at the expense of an improving player. The answer is no.
If Larry Allen was to take a minimum salary here (which seems to be part of the dream), why wouldn't he take a minimum salary with the team where his family lives, he's going to get his number retired, and where he probably hasn't paid for a meal in ten years? He'll return to Dallas, unless the Cards pay him foolish money. |

he wouldn't start for most teams... maybe half of them at best. |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Hell No!! We dont need to fool with team chemistry like we already have...if there is a place where chemistry means everything it is the offensive line!!!!
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
I say no, we need someone who will play for $1m a year or less and can play both guard and center. He doesnt fit either of those requirements...
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
jeff mitchell is the best choice currently available.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
It would be quite tempting to take a Cowboy great, have his ass sit on the bench and wear a Redskins jersey. The Boy fans would hate that. But I think with the money we would pay him we could get 3 other lineman that would be more usefull
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
The Boy fans & some of us would hate it!
Dockery is solid if unspectacular. The coaches have praised him & unlike T. Jacobs for e.g., he's shown improvement. They all say he has a lot of upside, this will probably be the year he shows it, as he's a free agent in 07. No way would it be good for us to insert Allen in his place, & Allen would just be collecting checks before retirement if he was 2nd string. Plus, I hate signing ex-boys!! |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Has anybody thought of what this might do to Dallas' chemistry or lack thereof? Is Allen a leader or more of a problem lately. I know tuna had issues w/him.
Remember him grabbing cortez by the face mask? When I think of that now all I can think of is him grabbin TO like that. Now he won't have the chance unless they resign him. Bayless on espn.com said that the TO signing was a huge mistake & that the boys have lost some of their leaders. He said that before Allen was cut. Now that he & Keyshawn are gone, I can't think of any player they have that will get in TO's face. Allen's release might have a bigger impact on the boys than tuna is ready for. |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Larry Allen has a chronic bad knee. It used to buckle on him on a regular basis during games in the last two years. He is damaged goods and his playing days are numbered. He will retire soon.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
He's old and he's broken.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
dallas may be looking to resign him after april 1st anyways.

F that washed up cowgirl....our days of funding over the hill cowpies retirement funds are over.
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
Hell no!
|
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
We dont NEED a starter, so I'd rather us sign a young linemen with some skills and potential...instead of a lazy other than game day guy who has very little time left.
The upside of a young player could be huge, while Allen would be a here/now with no future plans....in my opinion. |

Except he can play guard or tackle. I bet if Larry Allen wanted to, he could play center. |
Re: Larry Allen: Should we sign him
No thanks. He's old, fat, and oft injured.
