We need RB depth!

Isn't this Betts last year under contract. I assume that a team, after next season, will offer Betts enough that we will be forced to let him go to greener pastures. I mean I like Rock but could he fill Betts role full time. Haven't heard much about Combs, Carter or Lumsden. Plus how long does Portis have left, 2 to 3 good years, plus his contract will get huge. A nice young stud RB would be nice. DonTrell Moore would be nice and possbily could get him undrafted and Jimmy Cotrell at LB too. NM connection!

Not sure if we need to go the RB route in the draft. Betts, Cartwright, Nemo... we seem pretty set at RB.

I hear that. However, I think the team can only afford to add one offensive skill position this year. There is a bunch of bottom end RB talent, but I see them taking a player like a Skyler Green with return capability before a RB.

yeah, i am not to worried about depth at RB.

I disagree that Portis only has 2 to 3 good years left. He's only 24. He'll turn 25 on September 1st. He's been in the league for 4 season and hasn't really had any major injuries. I think he'll last for another 5 or 6 years. However, that's assuming the Redskins don't start to misuse him and make the fans turn on him so that they can cut him.

rock can be a number two, manny white is a decent RB and broughton might be alright as well. I'm pretty sure betts is gone, but i'm not worried because i think white or rock could go to #2 and we'd still be fine.

bringing JC (at LB) as a camp scrub would be a good idea. he'll be one of the best undrafted LBs this year.

we have good depth at rb right now.we definitley have other holes that need addressed before the running back spot

jayfrank12 03-27-2006 08:31 AM

Re: We need RB depth!

the running back is only as good as the lineman in front of him.

FRPLG 03-27-2006 08:44 AM

Re: We need RB depth!

A running back doesn't need seasoning. When we need a new one we can draft one and insert into the starting lineup immediately. No need to waste space on one right now.

Portis-Betts-Rock-Nemo-Combs on practice squad. we can adress rb depth next year if betts leaves

Not necessarily, but with our line, most RBs would run well. Ladell Betts and Rock Cartright have both had 100 yard games behind it. I mean back in the Spurrier era, I think it was Ladell and Kenny Watson both had 100 yard performances in the same game. Kenny left and he hasn't done much since, so as long as we have intelligent back ups who cut through the right holes, we'll be fine.

Re: We need RB depth!

with betts and portis, the skins have a better 1-2 punch than most teams, with those 2 we should be ok the others are just there to plug the holes....

I like Rock over Betts and he had better numbers than him last year.

maybe ypc, but definately not in yardage.

MTK 03-27-2006 02:02 PM

Re: We need RB depth!

Rock's numbers were a bit inflated with that one huge game against the Rams. Over the course of the season Betts was more consistent.

I bet they will convert mauel white, jr. to tailback ( he reminds me of stephen davis), and will be the next coming of john riggins!

Manuel White may end up being pretty good. I don't know how serious his injury was in preseason last year though. Anybody know if he has fully recovered or not?

2-3 more years for Portis? Please. The guy's barely old enough to rent a car. If the entire team had to ride on his shoulders like last year maybe , but with the passing game we've added to keep defenses honest, CP should have another big year with significantly fewer big hits.

Lets hope so. Don't forget Portis is gonna be on the cover for Madden 07. It scares the hell out of me.

Anyone know what happened to John Simon?...he was a standout in the PreSeasons and was a solid contributor on special teams.

I've heard everyone from Steve Smith to Big Ben to Larry Johnson will be on the cover. Honestly, I'd be surprised if CP get the cover just because while he had a great year, so did many other big name guys. While I'd be happy for CP, I do agree w/ you that I'd also be kind of scared about the curse, as silly as it is.

Thanks for the relief. I hope someone else takes the Madden voodoo.

I checked NFL.COM and they don't have him listed. I don't think he plays for anybody anymore.

got tucked away on IR for a year in 2004, then got cut when we saw other people could do returns for us.

it is a rumor, he's a finalist, but there are tons of finalists besides him. They haven't picked yet.

Re: We need RB depth!

we seriously do need some more depth. Ladell is a good back, but lets be honest he isn't the best change of pace back to be behind clinton portis. What about going after the former skin Stephen Davis? He has been injured the past few seasons, but if he is used sparingly, he would be a great fit to throw in a guy that you can pound between the guards and will run down-hill...joe gibbs style. It would be a perfect compliment to Clinton Portis.

except he's completely done. he's slower now and a walking injury risk. betts is a much safer use of a roster spot and he's already here and under contract.
