Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts

Lloyd had not been expected to attend the workouts yesterday because, despite being traded March 11 from San Francisco for a third-round draft choice this season and a fourth round choice next year, he does not have the new contract that was part of the trade negotiations that brought him to the Redskins. He said one of the reasons he attended was his confidence that his representatives and the Redskins will have a deal completed by next week. Under his current deal, which will pay him $1.6 million, Lloyd will be eligible for free agency after the 2006 season. I hope this is a sign of things to come with Llyod. Granted, its just workouts, but I still like the fact that he's starting to bond with his new teammates. To me, this shows good character on his part to really trust the organization even though he just joined. |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
It shows a good faith effort on his part by showing up without a new deal in hand. He's off to a good start.
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
This is what its all about....where it all begins....the Road to 41 started yesterday and all but the NFLE guys are on the bus.

Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
I was hugely impressed by an interview I heard with Lloyd on Sirrius. This is even better. How many players in this day and age show up till their contract is finished. I love it!

I agree, remember last year how many people were mad at Moss because he was not at Redskins Park working out? Now that I think about it, some of us need to say they are sorry to Mr. Moss after that record breaking year that he had for us last season... |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
it all starts here and mr lloyd did have some issues in san fran with attitude so this is wonderful news
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
No one owes Moss an apology. Just because you had a great season doesn't make up for missing workouts! Players, especially first year players, only get working quicker because of workouts!

I thought I had heard that too at some point, that is my I am so impressed and excited. I think Gibbs must have the biggest smile on his face right now. |

|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
ST doesn't have anything to apologize for just yet. Yeah he's been in some trouble but it hasn't hurt him on the field. The spitting incident is the only thing that has hurt him on the field.

He will make 1.6 million this coming year! Is that not a deal?! I know all of these guys want longterm deals, but I bet half the league is operating under 1 year deals. Lloyd is obligated to honor his remaining contract until a new one gets in place. I would show up for workouts if I was going to make 1.6 mill! |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
The thing with Lloyd is the Redskins brought him here with the clear intention of signing him to a long-term deal. Both sides are well aware that he's here under those circumstances. Yes he has a deal in place already from the 49ers, but you don't trade for a RFA and let him play under his current deal.

Let me guess, he could have had a better season if he was at Redskins Park all last season too I suppose... Either way, the guy caught alot of smack from fans on here and he came in and put up stats that I do not believe we really thought that he could. Should've he ben at Redskins Park for the workouts last year, yeah. But he wasnt and he still put up record breaking #'s... |

I have to disagree, Moss's great season more than made up for missing a few workouts early in the offseason. He was there for all of training camp and he more than showed up all season long with a Pro Bowl, team record breaking season. If we can't forgive him for missing a few early offseason workouts after that performance... I really have to wonder. |

I believe he was talking about Moss, not Taylor |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
I'm with Daseal on this one. Early workouts are just too important to miss when you're new to the team. And as far as I'm concerned, if you have a contract, you are part of the team......regardless of how good or bad that contract is and regardless of whether or not you are going to be working out a better deal soon. I know you're not contractually obligated to come to voluntary workouts, but it's still the right thing to do and I think we (as fans) were justified in being upset last year that Moss missed workouts during contract renegotiations. I see no reason to apologize for that.
Did Moss prove that perhaps not everyone needs voluntary workouts to get up to speed with the rest of the team? Yes, and I'm glad he did. Does that change my mind about the importance of coming to the workouts and that it's the right thing to do? Not at all. Obviously, I'm thrilled that Lloyd showed up. Definitely winning points with me. |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
I think that him showing up when he did not have to is a great show of his dedication to this team and to success.

That certainly makes more sense, my mistake. |

Hoping this hasn't been already posted to avoid the wrath of the anti-duplicate thread Czars.....here is a video to help everyone remember why we picked him up in the first place....

I think it has a lot to do with Randle El's presence. I think he wants the no. 2 job and is willing to work for it. |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
Lloyd will start opposite of Moss.

I don't think they are Russian? |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
It's good to see Lloyd here early to begin workouts with his new team despite his contract situation. It demonstrates he want's to get off on the right foot and make a serious contribution. I'm convinced our success last was was due to the 100% participation in the off-season workout program. It was also good to see Taylor here as well.

Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
he has a character flag hanging over him... doing things like this really helps some of us in thinking that maybe he left his problems behind.
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
an excellent start for the young guy... gibbs is really instilling the old school values across the diverse group of guys.
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
980 am in DC reporting that Brandon Lloyd and the Skins have reached a long term deal. One more problem they WON'T have!

Nice...what does everyone think the odds are that it is a 30 million dollar deal? |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
Lloyd signed a long term deal today
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
they won't say it was announced on skins.com. He knew it was done probrally before he showed up
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
he was set to make 1.95ml this year, how much will he count now that he has
signed?good job guys |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
Im happy this is all taken care of. Now everyone can head into minicamps ready to work...
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
Is it like a 5,6,7 year deal or what?
Is it like a 5,6,7 year deal or what?
its probably the same deal they gave randle el |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
its probably the same deal they gave randle el
you are probably right but el is the better all around player
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
Probably just a little less overall than Randle-el--in keeping with the skin's policy of paying more to players they really value as "skins guys". I'm going to guess from watching how they've dealt with Randle-el that he fits the bill...
Plus Lloyd is less tested and has more to prove--all that smoke about him complaining in SF (reasonable, given how bad they are...), and he's younger. Plus he's a rapper. Can't say that Gibbs is a rap guy. We'll see when Canuck updates the sheets--I really don't know anything until Canuck gives it his say-so. I didn't know MY salary until Canuck laid it all out for me. |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
he'll probably count 2.5mill this year, which, with holdman, still leaves 3-3.5mill to spend.
lloyd is a far better pass catcher than El as is pretty good after the catch (though moss and cooley are definately better there). He might only get a 5-6 year deal, but its probably somewhat close to El's or moss's. |
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
i'm just glad he's signed . one less thing to worry about. all we need now is for taylor to be found NOT GUILTY.
|
Re: Brandon Lloyd reports for workouts
its probably the same deal they gave randle el
To be honest, I hope its not the same deal. But in reality, all of our deals have escape clauses in them basically big bonus up front, and vet mins after that. I'm sure we will be alright. |
