Favorite TV Shows of All Time?
Inspired by the "Was Friends a Great Sitcom?" thread I thought I'd start this one. What are your favorite tv shows of all time?
Here are mine: 1. The Simpsons 2. Family Ties 3. Homicide: Life on the Street 4. Frasier 5. Cheers (interestingly enough I never watched Cheers when it was actually on, just started watching it after it went into syndication) |
right now it's:
1.) CSI 2.) Simpsons 3.) ER 4.) Smallville 5.) South Park but all time for me it'd be: 1.) CSI 2.) Simpsons 3.) Friends 4.) ER 5.) Saved by the Bell and recently i've been realy getting into law and order (the regular one) and scrubs is making it's way up my list of personal favorites. another show that i watched nearly every episode of was oz on hbo. |
Scrubs is making its way up my list as well. That, and Alias. I liked CSI the first season but haven't watched it so much since then.
You mean Saved by the Bell with Kelly Kapowski right? Because even though the New Class was on longer it just wasn't all that good. Was there ever a more powerful episode in tv history than Jessie OD's on sleeping pills? LOL |

LOL
kelly aka tiffany amber theissan was my first crush and this was when i still thought girls had cutties, lol. i never watched the new class, but i did watch some of the episodes when the originals went off to college. what was the song she had to sing in that episode? wasn't it i will survive or something like that? |
King of the Hill & Without a Trace
I also like some CSI Miami episodes. |
Friends and Seinfeld I thikn are what you have to compare all Citcoms too. Granted I wasent around for the Cheers and MASH and some older shows that were popular.
I was a huge friends fan , and that goes down as my favorite show ever. |
Of all time makes me think too much here are my current/recent past favorites:
Simpsons Chappelle's Show Southpark Daily Show Futurama King of the Hill Scrubs 70's Show Family Guy |

"I'm So Excited" Look at me, I'm such a renaissance man with my breadth of knowledge, from the Redskins to Saved by the Bell |

Gotta say though, from you Daseal I was expecting, even hoping, for some off the wall choice that would make us all wonder what you were smoking. Something like say "The Steve Spurrier Show" |
Does anyone in here watch According to Jim? Thats a very underated show, I like that one alot.
|
SMoot: If there was a Steve Spurrier show, I would attend every single taping!
I'm really only crazy with my football ideals! |
I guess you don't get the DC-NBC affiliate. Because back when Spurrier was coach every Saturday night was the Steve Spurrier show with George Michael (of SportsMachine, not Wham!) and Sonny Jurgensen

i don't know if it was the same show or not but i remember there being one on either saturday or sunday mornings on which spurrier and sometimes his son went over last weeks game and the upcoming opponent. |
hah, that's right, Smoot. I'd watch that now and then! I thought you were going for more of a variety hour! With Steve juggling and jumping through hoops.
|
How about "Shows that didn't make it, but should've".
Anyone here watch "SportsNight"? I've got the whole thing on DVD. It was very well written and acted. Top all time is the Simpsons, by far. |
anyone else like the critic or greg the bunny?
Wasn't all that big a fan of the critic, but I did like greg the bunny. SportsNight was great also. Anyone else like Boomtown? |

Anyone else like Boomtown?
i never watched it but wasn't it some cop show that they showed in reverse or something like that? |
It had a pretty cool concept of showing crimes from various points of view. So the first few minutes for example might be the cops point of view, then the victims, then reporters, then the prosecuting attorney, etc. Critically raved, but not much of a ratings success
|
I don't know if I can actually label them in any order sicne they are so different from one another, and I enjoyed each one, so here is a list in no particular order:
1- Friends 1- Frasier 1- Cheers 1- Taxi 1- Simpsons 1- Southpark 1- Sportscenter (that counts right?) 1- The Cosby Show 1- Quantum Leap There are some up and coming shows that I really enjoy now, like Las Vegas, Scrubs, Everybody Loves Raymond, and of course King of the Hill gets a thumbs up. I am surprised that the Family guy was cancelled, that was a very funny show. Maybe it was too dirty for primetime or something. |
anyone else like the critic or greg the bunny?
I really liked the critic, but it's not a top all time show. Greg the Bunny sucked. I have a friend that keeps trying to get me to watch According to Jim, and every time I cave in and watch it with him, it sucks. (just thought I'd share there) |

Thanks to remarkable DVD sales, Family Guy is actually coming back to FOX and I think also the Cartoon Network in 2005 with brand new episodes. I know I'm excited about it |
Some of my favorites all-time in no particular order
ER South Park Chappelle's Show Cheers All in the family Seinfeld Curb your enthusiasm Survivor X-Files The Flintstones SportsCenter |
My favorites have already been mentioned so here's some others.
Man From U.N.C.L.E. The Prisoner Top of the Pops late '70's early '80's Blackadder Bagpuss Magic Roundabout Trumpton Thunderbirds Captain Scarlet |
Law & Order (I can't believe I am the 1st to say that show)
Family Guy (I heard a rumor its coming back to make more shows) PTI (I get pissed when its not on for something stupid like tennis) chapelle's show(I'm a fan bitch!!) The Wire (only been 2 seasons but the most realistic crime show ever) World Poker Tour (not a real show I guess but I love cards and seeing a ton of money move around) |
Among my favorites are...
Simpsons Cheers Seinfeld Frasier Good Times All in the Family Sopranos (anyone else even say that yet?) X-Files Star Trek (original/TNG/DS9.. don't like the last two) Dream On (HBO series from the early 90's.. it was hysterical. Michael McKean was an occasional character on it. Any TV with McKean is apt to be damn good!) Dick Van Dyke Show I Love Lucy Larry Sanders Show Hill Street Blues Law and Order Malcolm/70's Show ER (used to love it, though I haven't really watched it in about four years) Shark Week on Discovery !!!!!!! (probably doesn't count, but every year, I always stop what I am doing to watch it) And of course, if I were still seven, the Six Million Dollar Man and Battle of the Planets would be the coolest things going. Last but not least, the funniest show on TV today is without a doubt, Arrested Development (Sunday 9:30 on FOX) The time slot sucks, but that's what TiVo is for! It's produced by little Opie Cunningham (Ron Howard) and about a really screwed up family. It's twisted, perverse, completely off-the-wall, intelligent and just piss in your pants funny. Like Seinfeld, it's full of extremely selfish, mysogonistic characters and pretty much has no redeeming societal qualities. Little House on the Prairie it ain't. I'm glad I TiVo it. In fact. I have never made it through an episode without having to pause it because I can't stop laughing. I highly highly highly recommend it! |

I just saw an ad that Greg the Bunny was on dvd now and it has 2 unaired episodes as well so I thought I'd let any other fans of that show know there was a dvd out for it now.
I know this shows how much of a dork I am, but the only shows I would gladly fork over practically anything they asked for in order for them to be brought out on dvd are the Thundercats and the 90s X-Men cartoon series. |
Speaking of Thundercats (NSFW)
|
Scrubs, simpsons, farscape, sports nite, nfl football... older the practice (before it went completely X files)...
|
My favorites in no order
Sopranos Seinfeld Friends Curb your Enthusiasm Sanford and Son Good Times Chapelle Show That 70's show CSI All in the Family Dukes of Hazard In Living Color Martin |
Cheers is my all-time favorite show. Back in college I lived in a quad (old school quad with 4 guys in one room). Our room was in the corner of the building. We made a wood plaque that said cheers on it and stuck it to our door and the guys in the quad across the hall had a sign that said Ye Olde Towne Tavern (sp?). Thursday nights in our room was always a packed house. Ah, the good old days.
Coach answers the phone, "Cheers, hold on a minute. Is there an Ernie Pantuso here?" Sam says to coach, "That's you coach." Coach puts the phone to his ear, "Speaking." That's classic. |
