What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Of our major moves, which one would you have not made if it was your call?
Randle El Archuleta Carter Lloyd |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I'd have to pick one of the receivers, from which I picked Randle El, since he's never been much of a #1 or #2 receiver, and I think Lloyd has more potential.
The Skins can always find a return man, and with Moss, Patten, and Lloyd, doesn't make sense to logjam the position. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I'm going with Archuleta. I would rather have resigned Clark (who played just fine). I have no problem with all this WR depth we have.
I just see the salary of Archuleta being a problem when we want to resign Taylor a few years down the road. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
This is tough, I picked Archuleta, because I liked Ryan Clark a lot and he isn't worth the money we gave him for a position I felt was very solid.
Randel El is a very close 2nd. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
My vote is for Lloyd because they had to give up 2 picks to get him. The rest came over as FAs
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
archeluta because of ryan clark and im not sold on him being a star in this league.i really liked clark and how he fit into greg williams defense.plus it seems like archeluta is always hurt
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
im also going archuleta. he is fairly unproven as it is, but i think if he stays healthy, he'll change all our minds
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Can we add a none of the above button? I actually agree with all the moves. Lloyd didn't cost too much and you know what you're getting (rather than, say, counting on the draft to grab a Taylor Jacobs). I thought Archuletta made sense given ST's legal uncertainties (although we probably overpaid). Randle El and Carter were FAs, and I don't care what we paid them because we always find a way to stay out of cap hell anyways. Both were good moves for areas of need.

Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
ARCHULETA. He signed the biggest contract for a safety EVER. enough said. I live near St. Louis so I have heard all about him for years. I always liked him (I'm a big fan of the huge hits), but never thought he would bring this kind of money. I'm sure throughout the season we are gonna be singing his praises on a few knockout shots, but more importantly we will be pissed about a few blown coverages. Our run defense will get better, but he won't help our problem of giving up 40+ yard plays. Maybe I'm just sour because Ryan Clark was a true worker and now may not even get a chance to start with the Steelers (are they still trying to sign a safety??)

How bout would have made differently, because like I said I mostly like AA just not for big $ |

Hm, I don't think that's his problem to deal with. I think with the athleticism of Taylor, they don't mind him being the coverage safety. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I'm going with archuleta. I thought ryan clark did a fine job back there next to sean taylor. It wasn't worth bringing a new guy in to replace him. You don't fix what's not broken, and that's how i view that. I'm not saying archuleta won't be better, he might be, or he might suck, but i wouldn't have signed him, all the same.

Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I like our moves this year. Hence, I would say all of above. We have more weapons and depth at WR. AA is an upgrade from Ryan as well as insurance for S.Taylor. Insurance cost $$. Carter is a need for DE. If you can spend $$ to appease the fan and win the ring, Why not? We are buying glory and entertainment. GO SKINS!!!
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I chose AA solely on the basis of his contract. A little extra money from that contract may have landed us a better linebacker. I believe Randle El will be the new Brian Mitchell. Lloyd the new Gary Clark. Moss is ... Moss, of course.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I don't mind the archuleta move, just not at the price and when I think we would have been almost the same with just bringing back a much cheaper Ryan Clark. that would have then allowed us to go after a high quality lb or cb.

Yeah, that's how I voted, and for the same reason. Overall, I'm pleased with the pickups. I thought that we needed not one, but two new receivers to fill the #2 and #3 spots. David Patten gives us great depth, and virtually assures that you won't see a big dropoff in wideout production should any of the top three go down. Losing the 3rd and 4th rounder though, that stung a little. Archuleta was a close second, but there again, we probably needed him with Sean Taylor's legal trouble. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
AA!
Bad back, and demoted in a mediocre to poor Ram Secondary. Probably would not have gotten his starting job back with the Rams, either. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I'm fine with all of them.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I would not have done the Randle El deal. Not because I wouldn't want him, I would. But not at the price they paid.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I agree...I normally dont buy into the "overpaying" hype, but I just didnt see any reason to hand Arch such a fat contract. It just didnt seem like a necessary move. Also, I would have taken Lloyd over Randle-El in a heartbeat...that said, however, Im perfectly happy with both!

Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I am not sold on Archuleta either.
Having said that though, GW obviously asked to upgrade the SS position. Some of you might feel Ryan Clark did a good job but GW obvioulsy did not feel the same way. GW is the coach and he knows best. I personally wanted to upgrade the SS positon since we got Sean Taylor. Clark is an average, one dimensional coverage guy. Clark was flattened on a few running plays last year and is not much of a blitz person. I think GW sees that as a liability at SS. I know this will piss some people off, but I was not thrilled with Clark. He was stop gap guy until we found a star SS. I am not sure Archuleta is the player I would have picked. We need to break the habit of being happy with a mediocre player just because we get by with them or because he is a nice guy and everybody likes him. D. Dockery falls into this category, if Dockery does not play up to his potential this year we shoud look to replace him next year. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
GW is really high on AA, so that's all I need to know. He could really blow up in this defense.
I know there are a legion of Ryan Clark fans, he's a pretty decent player but AA's upside is much, much higher. |

Man, you hit the nail on the head with that one. Amazingly, Taylor Jacobs has the same type of following. And I hear what you're saying about Dockery, too. Many times, the guard position just isn't very glamorous. They get the most attention when they're able to pull and get some good speed around the end, but Dockery's not exactly known for that. At times, about the only thing you can say for him is that he plays left guard. That's it. There's really nothing special about him. But maybe he's just one of those unsung heroes that does his job, and the only time you know you miss him is when he's gone. I'm willing to cut Dockery some more slack. As was the case with Ed Simmons if you remember, it can take several seasons for some O-linemen to make a name for themselves. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Randel El. 31 million for that guy is a bit too much. plus w/ Moss, Lloyd, Patten, cooley, Portis, I think you have enough options. Arch, Carter, were definate needs. Arch gives us better support on the run and pass that clark. clark was a gamer, but lets face it, arch is a huge upgrade. Carter, SACKS!!!!! all that needs to be said there.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Arch, big contract, injury issues, we had a guy like him that wasn't all that great. El might also be a mistake (not in talent, but contract size), but if we're going 3WR base, its not a bad move.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I went with Randall El, He's obviously talented but I think we could have drafted similar, it will be tough to keep all these recivers happy this season.
I have alway's liked AA, and considering the uncertainty of Taylors status I think it was a good signing, although I also felt Clark could more than handle the job, I do look for AA to become an elite safety under GW. After seeing film on him I defiently like the Lloydd trade. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I was opposed to the Randle-El signing from the get-go so that's my vote. I never would have guessed that they would have signed two receivers, though. Adding Lloyd as well makes it make more sense. My question is, if you could only have one of the two between Lloyd and Randle, which would you pick? I'll take LLoyd.

Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Adam A., all we need is a overrated SS, he has a career high 3 ints, and not because he's feared,...just no hands and I believe john lynch is the last of the good white safteys in the league......i would rather traded for a # of safteys in the league, than pay him the richest contract for a Saftey in History..........

Damn ST. Why go there? What does Arch being white have to do with anything? The guy is a banger even if he has lead hands. He'll be in the SS position, so his job is more run support than looking for that glider hanging out there for the taking. He's white. Get over it. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I have no quarrel with any of this year's moves. If I were GM, I would have tried a lot harder to keep Antonio Pierce on our roster last year.
|
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
I like all the moves even though we overpaid, but if i was the gm I would have signed Vinaterri in the mix somewhere and 1 less reciever

maybe.....but hell I would had rather went after Ed Reed, he's unhappy in Balitmore and we could had traded a second round and next year future for a real star......Plus Arch is a liability in the passing game.........and he's ok but trust me.....he's no Ed Reed..... |

:benched: I hope you didn't mean that like you wrote it. He may be the only good white saftey in the NFL now, but you can be sure there will be more. |
Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
we all need to step back and give arch a chance before we start bashing him

If I were a GM and thought I could get Reed, I'd take him over Arch as well...but not because he's black :nono: . Personally, I think Reed might be the best strong safety in the league right now. He and Taylor in the same backfield would force teams to forget about the slot position, carry 12 tight ends, and mash every downfield pass to within 5 yards of the sideline. THAT would be worth seeing. |

Re: What move would you have not made if you were GM?
Randal El probably got more money than his production deserved...hopefully we got him on the upswing and he proves to be worth the loot down the line. He is the one I worry the most about though.

ST21 doesn't care about white people. {Kanye West looks on awkwardly} Ok, seriously.. I think Archuleta was a want signing moreso than a need signing. Hopefully the fact that he is playing more near the line will limit his lack of range and coverage skills. To the old-schoolers out there, remember, GW defense is patterned after the '85 Bears 4-6 defense. Gary Fencick was their 'Archuleta' and dude was a beast but he was not great in coverage. He played primarily near the line, blitzing the QB and blowing up RB out of the backfield. Love the Lloyd and Randle-El moves, excited about the Carter move. 2 moves I wish we had made, David Thornton and Ryan Longwell. |

I agree. But I remind myself that i feel about Antwaan now, how I felt about Santana last year before the season got going. If anything, comparing the two before last season you could argue that Antwaan had more upside. With his special team prowess and Moss' reputation as a malingerer. |

Hey ST, you are on to something. As you know

Chinese guys can't play basketball
Black guys can't play golf or be pocket quarterbacks
White guys can't jump or play safety
Let's just hire people for the positions we "know" they are good at and keep every other group out! And why should the Redskins pay the richest contracts in the league for players and assistant coaches? Lets just have the owner of the most valuable most profitable franchise in all of sports pocket the change for himself. Money is what the Redskins have. We have an owner who uses it to our advantage. |
