Mort gives us props
On the Sportscenter Draft Special Mort named the Redskins as the best team in the NFC. Hell yeah Mort. One of the Mods need to make him an honorary Warpath Member.
|
Re: Mort gives us props
That's cool I wish I saw it. But personally I would prefer it if we could stay under dogs. I like it when the media gives us no respect.I hope they keep hating on Danny boy and the Skins. It just helps blindside any unsuspecting foes.:FIREdevil

Re: Mort gives us props
kiss of death from mortimer. still i give him stones for showing us some love. but then again, how hard is it to be brave in april? zzzz on the offseason superbowl. we have more of those than lombardi trophies. is it september yet?
|
Re: Mort gives us props
I am O.K with this. Of all of the football media guys I think Mort is the best and often the most accurate. I mean he was THE source during the collective barganing aggrement and he seems to break most of the big stories first.
I agree I prefer being the underdog, but after last season the curtain is up and everyone in the league knows the Skins are back! |

I disagree. I think that critics hated on us right up to our 2nd playoff victory. In my opinion, we could have won the Superbowl, and still get verbally shat on by these "experts". I say bring it on. |
Re: Mort gives us props
i saw this. i was pleased mort was on our side. who knew salisbury would say the panthers again? he doenst like being proven wrong like he was last year about panthers.
|
Re: Mort gives us props
mortimer is the most fair, unbiased football reporter that espn has.and no,im not just saying this because he gave us some love
|
Re: Mort gives us props
Well I must say....I agree with Mortensen :)
|
Re: Mort gives us props
Mortensen and Clayton do quality work. Both seem to have opinions based on their own reasoning rather than the group think that a lot of the national sports media subscribe to. There are some others but I really look and those two as being leaders in terms of fair reporting.
I agree that on paper we have a strong team. But there is so much that can turn it bad and we have been through enought similar situations that I am finally totally immune to these type of precitions either way. I do get worked up when we are obviously negatively viewed in totality by the national media but on an individual basis I am just so used to it. I think it actually makes me like the Skins better. Us against the world type thing. The national media as a whole ahs to realize that this Skins team is as likely to make it to the Superbowl as a bunch of other teams. Ignoring that is obvious bias. |
Re: Mort gives us props
Yup. I definitely agree. Mort and Clayton both provide arguments based on CURRENT FACTS, not old standbys like Lenny P and Dr. Z (Snyder LOVES to overspend, har har har.)
|
Re: Mort gives us props
Bout time we get some RESPECT

Don't leave out Salisbury steak! What an idiot. The other day on ESPN, He and Michael Irvin were having heated debate regarding QB's or team Chemistry, or something. MI says "Sean, I understand your point, but I am speaking as someone who actually has experience at WINNING!" It got real quiet on Salisbury's end!!! Cool |
Re: Mort gives us props
Clayton rocks....he gave us some love on ESPN gamenight a couple of weeks ago. He said, and I'm crudely paraphrasing from memory, that people criticize us, but that we're a solid playoff team that got materially better.
|
Re: Mort gives us props
Back when Peter King wrote that poorly thought-out piece of trash that he passed off as an article earlier this offseason I said that Mort and Clayton were the only two guys I ever actually listen to or respect. Glad to see Mort hasn't changed my mind. :thumb:

Re: Mort gives us props
I really don't care who gives us props...I just want to see two people continue to dog us out...Sally Jenkins and Sean Salisburysteak.
Nothing would be more redeeming to see them dance around the truth for another full year while we plow our way through the playoffs. |

That is the first thing ever came out of Irvin's mouth that I can respect. He went up in my book for that. Big time call Irvin. |

Actually, Irvin tends to be, if not insightful, definitely balanced. He doesn't seemed to get swayed with what everyone else is saying. |

But of course what is normally coming out of Irvin's mouth is made of glass. |

Other than his ongoing love affair with the other big-mouth receivers still in the league and "The U", I hate to admit that I actually usually like watching MI on Countdown. He's surprisingly level-headed, fair, and actually pretty darn entertaining. |

Yeah, he lost a few points when he wouldn't call T.O. out on his foolishness....but all in all, I kinda like the guy. |
Re: Mort gives us props
Why doesn everyone need the Redskins to be respected by the media? Sure, I like Mort, Jaws, TJ and Clayton and usually value thier opinions, but really, what does it get us? I mean, who really cares if Pasquarelli or King love to bash the Skins? Doesn't mean a gumdang thing. Salisbury? Please.

I spent many years HATING the bastard for what he did to the Skins on the field! I could not agree with you more. Other than his TO homerism, I enjoy him! |

Yep, that's the big-mouth receiver I had in mind. And I'm with you, I detested him when he was a player too. |

Irvin does a good job, though he still can't master possesive nouns & proper tenses in the english language. He's also pro player's rights, seems to take the side of TO & other fools too often. Mort & Clayton are definitely top notch journalists. Salsburysteak? well, he's ESPN's Cosell - people love to hate him, including some of us it appears |

And what's going into his nose is a derivative of the coca plant. |

And when they did, he went on to say they didn't deserve to be there...all the while failing to acknowledge they had already proved him wrong in the first place. |
Re: Mort gives us props
Yeah, that put him at rock bottom in my book. Don't make all these bitch promises and then go back on them.

Now there's a guy (Cosell) I really never understood. Cosell was just a little bit before my time, but I watch old clips of him broadcasting and doing interviews, and I just don't understand how anybody could have ever liked him. Talk about the most biased, arrogant, pompous ass I've ever seen. I just don't understand how he made a living doing what he did. |

That's all I'm saying...when someone starts make these personal declarations, then they indeed make it personal. |
Re: Mort gives us props
I wonder when someone is going to call him on it. Did anyone actually do that last year over the air?
|
Re: Mort gives us props
Had quite a flow to his speech, which was annoying & entertaining at the same time. I think broadcasters like him, Salisbury & Joe T. have that affect, people will say they hate them yet continually pay attention to what they say because they’re not afraid of stirring controversy. In Salisbury’s case, he tries a bit too hard sometimes & I’ll agree w/12th Man, he talked a bit too much smack & then didn’t want to just concede that he was way wrong. He seems to share pastabelly’s personal animosity toward the skins.
That’s cool w/me though, he’ll have to go on espn & suck it up eventually. Once we continue to win big, even the most ardent critics have to give some props. |
Re: Mort gives us props
For me, anything Salisbury says I either take with a grain of salt, or just ignore outright. I mean, the guy has no credibility. How can he criticize players or teams when he was a terrible NFL player. Seriously, what the heck does he know about winning? Nothing. So why should anybody listen to him? It just amazes me that an organization like ESPN would even give this guy a job. There has to be at least 100 other former NFL players out there who were more successful than him that would take that job. The guy is a total fraud.

I think there are several things that are different about this team. |

Dr. Z claims to have been around football since the beginning of the football era. I don't think I've ever seen him pick anything right. It's not an SI curse, he's just a bad analyst. |

Wasn't he Mr. 4-12?
