Re: Ricky Williams Suspended

Williams doesn't have to pay back his signing bonus if he gets banned, right?

...I'm not sure the Dolphins weren't the idiots for bringin' him back. They were bad enough without him that anything, even Ricky Williams, might have seemed better at the time, but still. There's a big pile of stupidity in there somewhere that more than one person stepped in. ...and they tracked it all over the inside of their freakin' house.

I don't know if the situations are all that comparable, but even if you look at the way Gibbs handled the Number 72 situation...

I'd bet Gibbs wouldn't have brought Ricky Williams back.

Re: Ricky Williams Suspended

Maybe Ricky isn't as dumb as we all think. I mean I think he might of only came back to not have to pay back the money. Now since hes past that he gets what he wants which is to not play football. I expect to never see Ricky on the football field ever again.
I wish they would tell us what the drug was.
same here cuz the report confirms it wasn't mary jane but more than likely something related to his "hollistic healing." I guess I have a little more sympathy than some cuz I have had loved ones have somewhat similar psychological struggles with who they are and where they are at in their lives like it seems Williams has these past few years. I think he'll be back but he'll never get that type of money again and will also never be a feature back but he'd probably prefer that.
I wish they would tell us what the drug was.
i guess it is possible that it was pot but maybe he failed it because he tried to tamper with the test. this is purely speculation but i dont see ricky doin the really hard drugs like crack or even something worse.

This guy is just an idiot. Its a shame because he could have been one of the best ever to play if he had a brain under that rat infested hair of his. I think he might very well get the jackass of the century award.

Yet another waste of unlimited potential.

Re: Ricky Williams Suspended

I actually feel bad for the guy. He made some boneheaded moves, no doubt. But he came into the league with that personality disorder, had a ton of pressure from Ditka and the Saints trading virtually their entire draft for him, and imploded. Keep in mind he never bad mouthed anyone during this process. He honestly talked about not wanting to play football and everyone jumped all over him for it. The marijuana use was stupid, but if the league suspended him for another year, after he made all of that process and adjustment to league life, based on a technicality... that's equally stupid. Having been put through the works like that, if he comes back, it's because he really wants to, and I for one would be excited to have him back up Portis.

He should be well rested next year :p

I think Ricky may have gotten a raw deal in this one but when you're on the 30 foot high rope you got to walk a tight line.

What's the technicality though? He failed a drug test. He can claim all he wants that it was a mistake or a false positive, but the fact that the NFL re-looked into the test leads me to believe they don't doubt its validity. And between the NFL and Ricky Williams, I'm more likely to believe the NFL. In fact his statement yesterday was that he was dissappointed by the decision, but that he "respects the decision". If it was really a false positive, I don't think he'd have pulled that quick of a 180.

failing to take the test on time is automatic failure. he could have been clean and still failed cause he was late or something. I don't have any details.

ESPN is saying, he failed the drug test as a result of an amphetamine or like substance in a supplement he has been taking. They don't elaborate as to exactly what.

Re: Ricky Williams Suspended

My opinion of the guy and his situation, not that it really matters: he is finally finding out who he is and realizes that he doesn't want to play football, but has to. But when he plays and practices, he works hard. This is the one thing that sticks out about him in my mind and I have respect for him because of this. I don't think that he was making mistakes so much - I believe he was more lost than anything and doing a little soul-searching.

I realized most of this after hearing some similar opinion on Mike & Mike on espn2. The guy's name is Bill Curry - an ex-old school Green Bay player , head coach in college, assistant in nfl, now analyst.

While I am sympathetic with Ricky's plight. I don't believe he is a bad guy.
He commited a Cardinal Sin (no offense to the Catholics, or Ornithologists in the WP) I try to teach my kids that, "YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW". He spit in the NFL's face when he left on his...........................sabbatical. He has failed several tests previously. I personally would not be breathin' air unless the NFL approved it. The NFL is not about to cut him a deal!

I think he is getting punished for his actions and his lack of desire to play football; I can't argue with his punishments. His punishments are reasonable whether you think his actions were accidental or not.

I still respect him and what he is going through. I think he is just trying to make it through a tough situation, which is not having a desire to play football, but having made a previous commitment to play.

Dolphins | R. Williams loses out on $1 million bonus
Thu, 27 Apr 2006 12:53:37 -0700

Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams' one-year suspension will cost him a $1 million bonus, as well as his $560,000 base salary.

I'm shocked that that's all he's going to lose. that's nothing. Though its more than his next contract is going to be worth ($0 to vet min).

The technicality in this instance would be that he took harmless supplements which merely contain trace amounts of chemicals found in illegal or performance enhancing drugs. Remember, he neither lied about nor denied using marijuana. He knew the consequences then, as he does now, and still was honest to the point of fault. You can say a lot of things about the guy, but I don't believe that anyone has any legitimate reason to knock his integrity. Many of the problems he has faced have resulted from his propensity for honesty. As far as pulling a 180, I tend to believe that he knows he already appealed the ruling and lost. There is no point in further contesting the decision. It's far better to simply come forward and say that while he doesn't agree with it, he does respect the authority of those who rendered it. The man has to realize the futility in proclaiming his innocence of a crime for which he has previously committed at least 4 times.
