What do you do for a living?
Just for to get a feel of the backround of Redskins fans, what does everyone on here do for a living?
I am a Tool Inspection Tech. I work for a powder metal plant where we make strickly automotive parts for the Big three and others such as BMW and Honda. I mostly work on a Carl Zeiss CMM, where I have to write measurement programs to measure the tooling that makes the parts. It is challenging but that is what makes it enjoyable. So, what does everyone else do? |
I'm a computer consultant, currently on loan to a restaurant company in Delaware. In my spare time, I incite rage and start flame wars.
|
Aha, another workshy 'computer expert'. So am I, I'm network admin for a small marketing company in CA.
I can't mix a Bloody Mary as well as Brud, but I can collapse as good. |
I'm a full time student at George Mason University, majoring in computer science. I just finished my Junior year (as of 4:15!). I just applied for my school's accelerated Master's program in Software Engineering, so I may have just suckered myself into another year of school (doh!!!).
In my breaks (summer, winter, spring) I work as a computer programmer for Booz Allen Hamilton. |
I go to school currently at a community college and looking to transfer after one more semester. While there I work in a sweat shop screen printing t-shirts. I know your jobs aren't quite as glorious as mine, but I won't look down on you - no need to worry! Any spare time I have is normally spent in front of my Steve Spurrier shrine.

I'm a Self/Un Employed Web Developer. No I won't be much help to your spider but I make great small business web sites. My business is solid but I could always handle more work if anyone needs. I specialize in making sites for small companies make money with the web and not spend it.
I work at home, I do the lawn duties, go shopping and cook all the food for a beautiful woman...that makes it all worth it. lol I'm also a self supported musicians singer/songwriter guitarist. Let's see I have a Jopurneymen's Electrical card from 1983. I can do fiberglass, Paint and Gel work on custom boats and bikes as well.. I can cook and I like long walks on the beach...... lol F' It! I like football! peace |
I'm an assistant attorney general for the Maryland Insurance Administration. My practice is mostly administrative litigation and advice - an extremely limited and archane area which on occasion translates into something generally useful to the public.
Of course, as a lawyer, if you kill me, 10 more will take my place. muhahahaaaaaa |
I just graduated the other day from grad school, got my MBA. Next week I start a job with a sports marketing company. My first assignment is college soccer...that should be an easy sell. I also started a little sports media company with a friend of mine about a year ago, we focus on high school football and basketball
Congrats Cpayne |
I am a Credit / Collections manager for a local furniture corporation. I have a finance degree and hopefully I will be getting out of the collections side of the business really soon. I like the finance side, hate the collections side. Love running my own department though...in fact I am running it while talking to you right now...hehe.
Congrats on finishing up college boy. Are you taking summer classes, or do you get a breather?
I haven't been able to force myself into summer classes yet. I usually take the summers off, from school anyway. |
I'm a nurse.
|
I graduated for some college that you guys have never heard about and would never guess....heh and have spent the last four months doing a little bit, and a lot of nothing. I chill in my house, cook for my girlfriend and am preping my house to sell.
Im working on getting a career, preferably one that will pay for me to get my masters degree. But in the meantime I need any sort of job. So if any of you out there are hiring or know someone that is let me know. |
He joeredskin, I'm an attorney too. Solo Practice.
|
He joeredskin, I'm an attorney too. Solo Practice.
Where? What type of stuff do you do? Need an associate? :silly: |
I've been jumping around the insurance field since I finished my undergrad in '01, worked for a year doing long-term disability claims, now I'm doing No-fault medical claims, soon to be moving to another company to do workers' comp.
It's funny I have no real interest in insurance, but it's a solid gig that pays the bills and then some. I'm also a part-time MBA student, once I finish that I'm really not sure what I want to do. I'd like to run my own business someday, not sure exactly what though, LOL. I wish I could make a living out of this website! Maybe someday, who knows! |
I am a graduate student in philosophy. I'll have my PhD in about a year. :food-smil

Don't do it until you can have a well-paid staff of moderators! :biggthump |
Carnage and JoeRedskin-
I'm a lawyer too, got my own practice in Florida, mostly PI. Carnage - where are you at? JoeRedskin - you gotta go solo bro! |

Re: What do you do for a living?
I must be really bored, digging up 10 year old threads, but I figured it would be interesting to see if some of you guys who answered this thread are still working in the same field, same jobs as you were ten years ago. Obviously some of you guys were still in college. Just wondering how you guys are doing in terms of your professional careers now?
Back in May of '04 (when this thread first was posted), I was in the middle of finishing up my bachelor in Information Systems Tech. I was actually unemployed at the time, living at my parent's house. I can see why I never answered this thread back then, lol! What a loser, hahaha! But now, I can say that things have drastically changed in ten years time. I moved states, and now employed as a System Administrator for one of the local colleges. I've been in the IT field for nearly 10 years. Haven't gotten rich doing it, but it's a fun field. It's not as stressful working for a college as it would be for the private sector, but certainly I'd make more money in the private sector. Sometimes though, the money isn't worth it. Anyways, looking forward to hearing how things are going with you guys, professionally. |

But can you be sure that the PhD in fact exists :cheeky: ;) |
Re: What do you do for a living?
Good bump, totally forgot about this thread. Funny, when I first posted I was just about to move on to a company where I totally hated my working life for about 10 years.
Now though, I'm working for Social Security and totally content. |
Re: What do you do for a living?
Director of Business Intelligence. Provide analysis to support financial decision making at a health system in Philadelphia. Basically, would we make money or lose money if we hired x doctor, bought y machine, or purchased z hospital. Maintain our IT systems to ensure we can keep providing these analyses and answering these questions.
Cool thread, I am interested to hear how things changed for you guys over ten years. |
Re: What do you do for a living?
When this thread was last updated in May '04, I was finishing my freshman year at high school. Nowadays I'm a parts counterman working back counter (in house repairs) at a car dealership.

Re: What do you do for a living?
2004 was a good year for me.
I graduated college with a BSCS. Joe Gibbs came back and Clinton Portis dazzled me with his very first play as a Redskin. Currently, I am a Sales Engineer/Wireless Systems Engineer but I am slowly transitioning into product development. |
Re: What do you do for a living?
I was working for A chemical company for years. Got to the point I was home being lazy, sick of beating the streets, and my customers were phoning in orders. That is why I almost broke Earthquakes rookie post record in 2012 - alot of time on my hands, lol.
I decided to take on another full time job at a big car dealership. I run the loaner cars out of two of their locations, and work with the insurance companies getting rental bills paid. I make more money working one day a week (keeping in front of my Chemical sales customers) than I do working 45 hours a week at the dealership, but I just look at the whole picture. I couldnt afford to do one or the other. I would love to have one job that pays enough. Working two jobs - even if it is never on the same day and amounts to a normal work week sucks. Got my weekends off though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: What do you do for a living?
Audit risk ops for a financial specifically in home equity. Right now working in a very scrutinized space in which drifts between loss mitigation and loan modification. Work in a small group with a boss on the west coast. Lotta autonomy but alota moving parts.

Re: What do you do for a living?
Ooh, nice thread. I'm a higher education administrator, currently overseeing undergraduate advising and support to over 900 students. I'm also a part-time PhD student, currently starting the dissertation stage.

I work with young adults/adults, age 18-early 30's who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My program has 3 sections, a day program for non-verbal clients, and clients who have behaviors... A day program for clients who are verbal, but may still have behaviors... And a program (the one I work in), of clients who are basically fully functioning but still may have maladaptive social behaviors, which might look strange or weird to people who are neurotypical. We work with these folks trying to integrate them into the working world, finding them job placements and also helping them be able to do things of daily living. (Dressing, cooking, shopping, money management, etc) We use Applied Behavior Analysis to help them achieve their goals. :D |

Gibbs was coming back. Times were great back then because I played Madden all the time and we always won the off season :) Ive had the same job for the last ten years working for the gov. They did pay for my masters and the part of my phd that ive done so I guess I did what I was hoping for back then. |

Re: What do you do for a living?
10+ years is a long time. Hard to believe that I've been reading and posting on this board since then (and before when it was a Yahoo! Group).
May 2004 - I had just been let go from a job because I was gunning for an IT position that was ultimately given to the company's President's son. I had been working in HR doing benefits and payroll. Ended up in November 2004 getting a job doing web development and some systems admin. December 2014 - Mobile App Developer, with some web development on the side. The group I work with on the mobile app I develop (https://incaseofcrisis.com) was just spun off into its own company from the company that hired me in November 2004. |
Re: What do you do for a living?
Great thread bump.
I have been through so much in 10 years it's pretty amazing. I didn't hop on the board until January of 2006, so I'm not quite as long term as the rest of the folks on here (and I've been more in the shadows lately). In 2004, I was a freshman in college playing football and lacrosse like a super sweet rad bro. My oh my how priorities can change. I even cut my long ass hair. I ended up leaving school after one year because it was like a zillion dollars, and I didn't want to be head and shoulders in debt. 3 Schools, 3 majors and many years later- I came out with a B.A. in English and tended bar for a few years before I found a place working for a small I.T. manufacturers rep doing sales work. Love my job, friends, family, - mainly because we commiserate on the Redskins. Think about this, Redskins record since 2004: W L 2004 6 10 2005 10 6 2006 5 11 2007 9 7 2008 8 8 2009 4 12 2010 6 10 2011 5 11 2012 10 6 2013 3 13 2014 3 10 69-104 OUCH |
Re: What do you do for a living?
Man, crazy realizing this was ten years ago...
I had just finished my foray into graphic design only to find I hated the thing I went to school for. It was this cramped ass cubicle, working in a sweat shop. I remember looking at some Yahoo group and eventually Yahoo searching (that's right, Yahoo bitches) "Redskins Chat Forums". Eventually, I got here and the rest is history. Met some lifelong friends. Gmanc and Daseal have come to visit on multiple occasions to watch the draft in good ol' Lexington and we've met for tailgating and a baseball game this summer. I need to get up to DC more often, :P. Worked part-time as IT at Washington and Lee University, made it full-time and now am the IT Director at the Law School there. We're all so GD old! |
Re: What do you do for a living?
I've worked in manufacturing (a factory/factories I suppose) for 30+ years.
I am a quality engineer for a company that makes housing products. Mostly decorative glass, screen doors, blinds and stuff. Unfortunately we buy a lot of stuff from China so I spend half my day sending emails to China and the rest of the day measuring/evaluating and inspecting material. I'm seven years from retirement and counting every minute..... |

Just for the record I do live on the Jersey Shore and (i think depending on your definition of it) i like rough sex. Well lets be honest...i like any sex I get these days (with my wife of course). However I really hope im not thought of as one of the Jersey Shore cast. I do not like boom boom club music or pretty much anything else guidos do! Edit: but it beats being a masseuse at a rub and tug joint so ok....jersey shore guy is just fine. ..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: What do you do for a living?
My job is so fucking unbelievable.
I'll try to sum it up by first telling you about the folks I work with: First, there is this supermodel wanna-be chick. Yeah, okay, she is pretty hot, but damn is she completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on makeup. She is extremely self-centered and has never once considered the needs or wants of anyone but herself. She is as dumb as a box of rocks, and I still find it surprising that she has enough brain power to continue to breathe. The next chick is completely the opposite. She might even be one of the smartest people on the planet. Her career opportunities are endless, and yet she is here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not sure she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat. But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the fucking stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. In fact, he is baked before he comes to work, during work, and I'm sure after work. He probably hasn't been sober anytime in the last ten years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and to make things worse, he brings his big fucking dog to work. Every fucking day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonalds and Burger King, every single fucking day. Anyway, I drive these fucktards around in my van and we solve mysteries and shit. |
