We gave away a 2007 2nd rounder and this year's 6th rounder to be able to draft McIntosh? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

We are the only team in the NFL that has to trade multiple picks away to draft a player ? McIntosh would have likely been at 53 < shoulder & back > . Maybe we will trade next years 1st rd pick on Qb Croyle ?

What's dissappointing is that we only missed D'Qwell by one pick. :(

Was McIntosh really our guy, though, or did we settle for him once D'Qwell was taken?

--Phin
D'Q' was very productive. But it makes sense that we moved up to get McIntosh with the lack of talent available afterwards. There's a knock on everyone though.

Re: Looks like we traded up!

What another dumb move by my team, when will the redskins ever respect the draft. trading a second rounder and a 6th to move up 16 spots. Can i say stupid. Thats the reason we will win nothing. Trading our number 1 this year for campbell, and the other picks involved in that trade when we could have got him later. Now trading all the picks for this guy,he might be good but come on. I might crap my pants if they ever traded down and got extra picks.

JWsleep 04-29-2006 08:07 PM

Re: Looks like we traded up!

According to Gibbs, McIntosh was really the guy. They were worried about a run on LBs, not about getting D'Q. They didn't believe McIntosh would be there at 53 (probably correct), and he's was their first target. (Check out the press conference on shttp://www.redskins.com)

Well, if you go by the "value charts" that the NFL teams use, they got a slightly higher value for their pick, depending on how we do next year, of course. It costs WAY more to move up into the first. Moving a shorter distance to insure you get your guy makes sense. Could they have gotten him at #53? I doubt it, and the skins very much didn't think so. Could they have gotten him at, say, #40? Maybe, but that requires the team with the #40 to want to trade. You can't just decide where to trade; you need a willing partner. The jets were good to go, so we moved. The sixth rounder isn't worth much (and we had 3), so we traded our the #53 and next years second. And we got the guy we wanted.

I guess you don't think McIntosh is all that good--otherwise, you'd value the move more. I'm not a scout or a coach, so I just have to trust someone here. Why not trust Gibbs? Or do you prefer the pundits on ESPN or FOX?

Re: Looks like we traded up!

not saying he not good he might be great, my problem is we disregard the draft, we just throw picks away like they dont matter. so what now we only have a first next year on the first day, you can't just build a team on fa, you have to try to draft young talent and trust your scouts. The happiest day anyone has on draft day is the redskins call and taking advantage of us. I love gibbs but dont forget he said desmond howard had no holes. We could of had carl pickens in the draft and troy vincent.

dont forget gibbs got brunnell for a 3rd and 5 round pick when he was going to be release in a couple weeks just had to wait and we would have gotten him for free.

Re: Looks like we traded up!

sure if you dont mind brunnell breaking down, throwing nothing but screen passes. look at the steelers have had a first round draft pick every year since 67,hmmm lets see the patriots have done real well with the draft only winning 3 super bowls, hmmmmmm the eagle going to 3 straight nfc championship games and a super bowl building through the draft. I understand you having sarcasm, since we have all these divinsion title and nfc titles and super bowls by over paying for free agents since 94starting with stanly richard, james washington, john gesek, stubblefield, wilkerson, dion sanders, mark carrier, bruce smith, jeff george, etc etc etc i see what you mean by having sarcasm. yea your right why would you want to use the draft when you can over spend for other people players. yes the draft worthless , why draft a young de or dt when you can get one around 30 year old and over pay i see your point its been working for us so well. Maybe you might see im frustrated here, since my skins have only won 2 PLAYOFF GAMES IN 14 YEARS. LET ME REPEAT ONLY 2 GAMES IN 14 YRS. If that good enough for you then its fantastic for me <sarcasm>

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-29-2006 11:08 PM

Re: Looks like we traded up!

One more point if you think brunell going to make it through the whole season good luck> Because 37 year old qb always stay healty as the season goes on. Case in point last year. Look at his stats after game five see how well he did. But maybe its good enough for you its not for me i need more than 2 playoff wins in 14 years.

broncos like the FA dance, they've done well in sstaying in the top 10 in offense and defense almost every year.

Re: Looks like we traded up!

how many super bowls have they won with out elway>>> get the picture you need a quarter back. yes and they took us to the cleaner on the champ trade too. why give up the best coner in football at that time and get this a second round pick for portis. Dont get me wrong i like portis but that should have been a straight up trade. But typical redskins instead of getting value for value we said what the hell were smarter than everyone else and we'll throw a second round in for a going away present. see a pattern???

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-29-2006 11:24 PM

we dont have a championship quarterback on this roster who ready to play now.

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-29-2006 11:31 PM

yea the broncos might be in the top ten in offense and defense what do they ever win nothing just one playoff win since elway. i guess that good enough for you not for me.

Re: Looks like we traded up!

i hate to tell mister <sarcasm> not matter how many good moves we did in free agency.because we always think we win all of our super bowls since 94 from free agency, we still might not be the best team in the divison, giants will be better, eagle will not be as bad as u think mcnabb will be healthy this year and so will their offensive line and dline. we barely beat them last year when they were all injured, dallas will be better except at qb because bleasoe stinks. and our qb will play good early then fall apart like last year.

Except this year, Pryce is gone on the Dline, and Gerrard Warren got paid, so hes not a threat. Who's driving that defense, Courtney Brown?

The Eagles offense is the biggest joke ever, McNabb or not. I think their defense will reestablish itself this year.

I think your 'this team has no future' arguement holds some water, but with a run deep into the playoffs this year in the cards, I doubt anyone around the organization cares.

if you want to drink the dan synder cool aid you go right ahead, i'll looking for result instead of headline. my point is im tried of this bs year in and out and never winning anymore. I know you'll say we won a playoff game last year. yes your right, how did our great qb play hmmmm ,how well did he play in seattle hmmmmm guess that good enough for you, did'nt the defense out score the offense in tamp, no must have been my imagination. have a cup of cool aid on me

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-29-2006 11:44 PM

eagle offense is a joke but we seem to always have problems with mcnabb. and usually they win not us.

one year of us beating them no matter how great it was doesnt change they have own us since mcnabb been there

we didn't have a championship QB before and it didn't stop us. I have no idea what it is you're even trying to argue... use the draft and get a superstar qb? you really think that even merits an arguement?

their D is based on the back 7, their DL hasn't been amazing for a while.

there dline better over all than ours if you honest.

Re: Looks like we traded up!

that guy my arguement is not just a qb we dont use the draft for anything , we dont respect the draft that why we will not win a super bowl, you cant but a super bowl championship it was tried in 2001 and it failed horribly o r did you forget

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-29-2006 11:53 PM

joe thiesman was a great quarterback by the way, williams had one great quarter and at least rip was young enough too play a while.

That Guy 04-29-2006 11:58 PM

that doesn't change the fact that we won with non superstar qbs.

Ah, I can see now that we are talking about two different teams. You are obviously still stuck in the past with the Redskins of yesteryear, while I'm talking about the current team under Joe Gibbs. Under Gibbs, we have had (count 'em) a grand total of ONE free agent that didn't really pan out for us. And you seem to be conveniently forgetting all the guys we drafted over the past 14 years that weren't so hot either. I never said I liked where we'd been the last 14 year. I said I like where we are going. And I would think that anyone who is capable of peeling their pessimistic eyes away from the past for a couple of seconds would have to admit that the future of the Redskins looks bright indeed.

As Gibbs explained so well in today's press conference, the draft is always a bit of a crap shoot. You are gambling because you never really know whether a player can make the transition to the NFL. With the free agency market, however, you can see film of the guy you are interested in as he is playing against the same guys he'll play against on your team. Over the past three years, the Redskins have done an incredible job of identifying the needs of our team and going out and getting the guys that we need to fill those positions.

Hey, I'm not going to knock great organizations like the Steelers or Patriots (or even the Iggles...well, maybe I'll knock them), but I'll be honest with you--I like our chances just as well as any of them this year. We made the right moves and are putting together the right team.

As for Brunell's stats after the first five games, who the heck was he supposed to be throwing the ball to? Teams doubled and tripled Moss while keeping an eye on Cooley and keying the rest of their defence against the run. Without a legitimate threat as a second wide receiver, it says a ton about our offense that we did as well as we did.

Seriously, though, I'm not surprised that we've got a solid crop of naysayers again this year. Happens every year. Oh well.

--Phin

CHIEF CHUCKING MY SPEAR 04-30-2006 12:08 AM

Re: Looks like we traded up!

not a naysayer just not drinking the cool aid, the could hard facts are i hate to say this being a die hard fan we will not win a championship this way you have to do both, some free agents here and there but build most of your team year in and year out with the draft. you right about not all of picks have been good maybe that has something to do with leadership or management of the my beloved redskins, cerrato has to go look at the crap draft last year two fullback when this team doesnt use a fullback. that why san franciso ran him out of town, but since he can play racetball with synder he fantastic, may synder and cerrato since he has a extentsion should spend top dollor on scouting collage player instead of fa who mostly want to get paid and get fat on our bonus money
