Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I think he will be cut sometime between June 1 and the start of the season; unless he has somehow miraculously improved his performance.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I think it is almost guaranteed. He is at best 5th on the depth chart and offers no return skills and hasn't demonstrated anything to keep him around. He needs to have gotten much improved to even have a chance.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Since we usually have this conversaton around June, I'm betting he stays on board.
I mean, we cut Taylor and Ade every year don't we?? |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
The thing with Jacobs is he tends to have a great training camp and all the coaches and players end up saying "Watch out for Taylor Jacobs, he could end up being the best reciver we have", then as soon as its time to perform, he fizzles out and you dont hear from him again.
They need to take a serious look at his performance the last few years, and I think he is as good as gone. As far as Ade goes, I think the guy played his way into a spot last year. With the exception of that touchdown against Denver that he gave up (which was decently covered, but not great), the guy played great for us on special teams and was alot better than anyone excpected in the secondary. So I hope and think that Ade stays on board. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I guess a lot of it depends on how many WRs make the final roster, but you have to think Moss, Lloyd, El, Patten and Thrash are locks, maybe in that order, so that is 5. Will we keep 6 WRs?

Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
gone daddy gone

Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Do you think anyone takes a chance on him when (or if) he gets cut ... say the eagles ?
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I think he hangs around...he may suck, but at least he's cheap... I doubt we'd get another guy as cheap who at least has solid raw talent, plus he has some experience in the system.

I would say a bunch of teams would take a chance with him. I could see philly, green bay, San fran., cleveland, etc. giving him a roster spot if we decide to cut him. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I think it will come down to him or Patten as the possible odd man out at WR.

I'd be sort of shocked if Patten got cut over Taylor. I thought Patten had a good season last year until he got hurt. Plus, I'd have to think that Gibbs probably still like the fact that Patten comes from a winning program. |

The number of wrs the redskins keep will probably depend on the players at other positions that they are sold on or think may have potential. I have a feeling that right now roster spots on the team are at a premium. It will be interesting to see if the redskins give him a chance to show what he can do in preseason because from what I read he seems to have great work habits but has trouble translating on game day. He either doesn't have confidence or a positive attitude when game time comes. As a side note, he did have 3 catches (19 yards) in the Seattle playoff loss. |

I mean, we cut Taylor and Ade every year don't we??[/QUOTE] Ade was very raw coming out of college. He's gotten better every year he's been in the league. Taylor jacobs has not improved one aspect of his game. Unfortunately, i think they cut patten when he starts to whine about being 4th on the depth chart. But thats just my opinion. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
The only reason to keep Jacobs around is so I can keep calling him Fraygeelayyyyyyyy!
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
The Ade has finally earned a nice spot on this team. TJ, not so much.

I don't really think anyone understood (myself included) how important Patten was to this team last year, until Patten was on the sidelines. He really did a good job taking guys out of the plays and opening it up for Santana Moss. I gave the guy a ton of heat when he was in there, but as soon as he left the feild with the injury, it was painfully obvious that our passing game wasent what it was when he was in there. |

I know it's still early, but where do you currently see him on the depth chart ? |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Cut him Now.....Biggest Steve Spurrier Bust of the Century,Waste of Draft Pick. All he is doing for us is taking up a Roster spot.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Patten will not get cut ahead of Tayor Jacobs. No way, no how. I also don't think Patten will cause a stink in the locker room, like some of you are predicting. He is a classy guy and knows with Lloyd and El coming on board that he needs to earn his spot. He will be the 3rd or 4th receiver this year and get some playing time in certain situations. I would like to see Lloyd step up and become the number 2 and let El be the number 3. Also, don't forget that we will have injuries at WR this year. I know it will happen. The Skins will need depth, talent and experience at the position and they will have it everywhere, except with Jacobs. He will be gone.

I agree. We're talking about depth here, and a veteran (like Patten) is a more valuable bench player than someone yet to prove themselves (i.e.: Jacobs). The only question is money...as usual. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Given Patten's age and contract, I wouldn't say he's a sure lock to make the roster, that's all I'm saying.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Gone. How many lives does this guy have? He may be a nice guy, but nice don't catch, score or block. He has had every opportunity to step up and has done jack. Plus, the guy gets hurt just walking. Cut our losses and let an undrafted rookie take his spot. Maybe we'll find someone who actually wants to play.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I would be stunned at this point if Patten gets cut over Jacobs. Jacobs hasn't done squat in the league. At least Patten has some rings and experience.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
What about Thrash, does he get cut over either or is he pretty well secure in the #4 spot?
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Thrash has value as a special teamer.
The only reason i think patten will get cut is im predicting he will start bitching about being #4 on the depth chart. He will want to play a larger role. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Take out the Thrash.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
Thrash won't get cut ahead of Jacobs either. For the same resaons I mentioned about Patten.... experience, leadership, cap friendly salary, special teams gunner. ect. ect. If you think about it, we were really thin at WR at the end of the year. Patton and Thrash both got hurt and we had to resort to Farris.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
i think saunders will push to have 6 wrs on the active roster
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
patten >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> jacobs.
patten is safe. jacobs has a high chance of being cut unless we keep 6 wrs. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
After hearing so many people compliment him and his potential over the last three years I hate to cut him. Not that it's my job to do so.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I wouldn't write off Jacobs just yet he will finally have a chance in a real offense, whether or not he can stay healthy is another story, he is also a pretty good special teamer, I feel he's a better WR than Tharsh, but not as good on ST's, which may be an edge for Jacobs over Patten, as I believe Jacobs is a better special teamer, I see serious competition between the 3 come training camp.
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I thought we had a pretty decent offense last year, I mean it only produced individual records in receiving and rushing. ;)
TJ has had plenty of opportunities to step up. Bottom line is he hasn't, I'd be really surprised to see him on the opening day roster. But then again stranger things have happened. |

Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
i think the discussion is more about money than anything else.strictly talking ability, jacobs should have been cut last year,but...money always creeps into any discussion about the nfl.patton is a proven, legit wr while mr jacobs hasnt proven anything to anybody.but he must look great at practice, because he keeps hanging around.but its probably jacobs vs. thrash for a roster spot.thrash basically occupies a roster spot because of good special teams play and a superior attitude
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
If TJ practices so well and we want to keep him around, move him to the practice squad!
|
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I think Patten's tendency to bitch is a legitimate concern. Coach Joe doesn't give people who do that much of a chance to remain on his team. Gibbs said last year that he had to place Patten in IR because he couldn't afford to leave a roster spot open for so long -- thank you NFL roster rules. That's the issue that seriously needs addressing in the owner meetings.
Still, I'd taking a whining David Patten over a crybaby bum like Taylor Jacobs every single time. And there's no way we keep 6 wideouts on the roster. This ain't the Run-n'-Shoot. |

It's most likely going to be Moss, Randle El, Lloyd, Patten and Thrash. |
Re: Will T. Jacobs Be Cut ?
I'm sure the team wants to keep him around, even if he sucks. I think it's bound to become a numbers game, and I don't see us keeping 6 WRs. Pretty much what Matty said.

what about espy what do you guys think his chances are to making the final roster, looks pretty impressive now.

can't, he already has two years of experience. its either roster or bust. |
