Must have been the halftime poker withdrawl. Seriously, are the NBA playoffs even still going on? I have no idea.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

well, it's not something serious. He'll probably pay a fine or do some community service, and it will be erased from his record.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

its getting so if you are a professional athlete you must have something on your record. it must give you cred or something

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

Yeah this is minor, but I like how he said you cant arrest me....i am thinking they might have been drunk, but I guess Arenas is wierd like that anyways, and maybe he would say that while getting arrested sober.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

i think that was more in response to him thinking he didn't do anything wrong, not that he's some idiot who thinks he's above the law.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

He was just trying to help his teammate out and got caught for the same thing. Hopefully nothing serious.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

at leat he got arrested sticking up for his team mate. there are a lot worse things to get arrested for than that...

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

Gilbert got the cop's attention and got arrested too. If it was Antawn the cop would have made it to the baseline and walked right past him...

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

While this is such a minor incident, I still do not understand why professional athletes feel the need to identify themselves as athletes when they get arrested for whatever reason. Is it supposed to soften the blow or what?

Who knows what the context of his "I'm a professional athlete, don't arrest me" speech is. It sounds like everyone is getting arrested this weekend in Miami Beach, imagine how little time these officers are actually spending on these police reports. For all we know, these sentences could have been spaced out over several minutes, and not necessarily even directly connected to each other.

I'm hopeful this is the case, because I love Gilbert Arenas and don't want to hear about him acting like a pompous dick.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

it seems to me, by the charges, that the cops had nothing better to do but harass some athletes and lock them up, so that they can say they locked them up...

i wouldn't be surprised if the judge throws out at least Gilbert's charges...

Completely off topic but, did you see Marion Berry this weekend?

Back on topic, this sounds like some BS, although Gilbert is lucky he didn't get mased for not backing up. I do agree though that the judge will probably throw this one out, especially since Gilbert does a lot for the community.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

As far as I know, it is not illegal to observe a police officer doing his job (I think there is a distance limit, however). If Gilbert's car was in an acceptable parking space, then the cop has no right to tell Gilbert to leave (and then arrest him for not leaving). It seems like just another case of cops abusing their power.

That Guy 05-30-2006 01:14 PM

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

if the guy the cops arrested was drunk and in the middle of the street (blocking traffic) and arenas either joined him there or interfered with their arrest, he was in the wrong, even if it was sticking up for his team mate and wasn't a big deal. It does sound like he did in fact hassle the cops in a very minor way, so i highly doubt it's an abuse of power. Though if the same thing happened 10-20 times, i think very few people would actually be charged and brought in for it or whatnot.

Oddly enough, Yes I did. He and his old lady were eating crabs at Lazy Susan's in Lewes on Saturday night.

Arenas speaks out......

He said he never said anything like "I'm a basketball player, you can't arrest me"

sounds like a bunch of hot head police officers overstepping their bounds to make an example out of Arenas...

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

yeah, hopefully the charges get dropped and it just goes away. it seems so petty, even if the cops' account was the absolute truth.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

I never thought Gilbert was the jerk that the media is making him out to be.

Sounds petty to me...nothing really. It'll pass.

Re: Gilbert Arenas Arrested

Arenas was funny in his Post article by Wilbon today. He's said that he never said the alleged "I'm a basketball player" line and that it sounded like Ron Burgundy in Anchorman "I'm kind of a big deal, people know me."
