razor vs. electric
 

I've been trying to convert to electric for a while now, but I just can't get a nice clean shave, but I hate the irritation from a regular razor.

So what's up electric guys, how do you do it?

i use electric, although i have a hard time getting that patch underneath my chin.

I got the braun activator and have used it for a long, long time. I don't remember really using anything else. Its good because you end up getting your money's worth. Now I think they have the braun 360 something. The only difference is the foil on the top so I can change that. Its good and close. Sometimes, especially during the summer, I'll just not shave for a couple weeks and it gets big so it has three modes. One wis like a clipper to take away the big stuff and the other two are for closeness. Now it does a good job every where because one mode is for areas that are curved, like mooby said- the chin. The other is for harder areas like above the lip. All and all its pretty good.

Razor all the way. Used to be electric then tried the razor and was sold on the closeness. No electric is gonna beat the closeness. To counteract the irritation I now shave in the shower. The volume of hot water and steam open the pores enough to almost eliminate the irritation totally. Takes some practice to do well but if it concerns you just get a little shower mirror. I now jusr do it blind and never have an issue.

I've been a shower/blade guy since I was 18. No cream, nothing, just hot water.

I got that crazy ass five blade thing in the mail a couple of months ago and I love it. When you first start to use a new blade it really glides w/o irriataion. The only problem is that the blades don't last that long and new one's are pretty pricey (no wonder they gave me a free sample, bastards). When I try to be cheap and use one of the blades for too long it starts to pull hairs out of my lower neck, which always really sucks.

I still shave the downstairs area with a huge bowie knife though, I just have to makes sure I don't drink coffee or soda before I do it.

Razor is the only way to go. I get the same irritation from an electric that I do from a razor, and an electric of course isn't nearly as close. Blades give you that smoothness when your done too, you know, the kind when the hot women really want to rub your face.

I've been watching too many Gillette commercials.

But I do have an electric, it's a Norelco. Know what it's great for? Shaving the back of my neck and shoulders. On those places, you don't care if it misses a few hairs here and there, you just want to clean it up a bit.

You can still use a razor without the bumps if you do it right after a shower. The hot water will open the pores up so it's easier for the hair to come out. Also, make sure you don't go against the grain of the hair, that's what causes a lot of irritation. Go with the grain until you're almost done, then you can go against it to get that baby's ass smoothness. I also use that Neutrogena aftershave lotion stuff. I hardly ever get a bump doing it like that.

I've been a razor guy most of my life. I've tried a few electrics now, most recently I bought a Norelco smart touch which is probably the best electric I've tried, but even that doesn't get close enough for me, especially on my neck.

Razor guy. Used to keep up with all the Gillette noise, but it got too expensive, so I found a disposable I like, and use that (Bic Comfort 3).

Definitely shave either in the shower, or immediately after. If you can't, be sure to wash your face with a hot damp wash cloth. And be sure to use some sort of after shave to help cut down the irritation. There are also pre-shave things you can put on your face to help cut down the irritation as well.

They say electrics will not work on an oily face. If it is you have to wash your face first. But like matty said, it doesn't work on the neck very well.

Both.
I use a Panasonic wet/dry in the shower for the bulk of my face.
Mach III in front of the sink for finish work.

Razor, but i'm gonna try it in the shower now that i gto the idea from some of you cause i get some serious irritation at the sink. i even use this special cream made from oatmeal and i still get bumps

Im a shower/razor guy.

Man i cant believe how expensive razors are! i go the 5 razor thing and its like $17 for 4 extra cartridges.

I need a both option cuz most of the week I use my electric Norelco shaver but every week & 1/2 or 2 I use my blade razor. The electric is so much faster and using it allows me to sleep another 5 extra minutes and the straight razor used too much causes really bad razor burn 4 me. anyone have a shave lotion or after shave they recommend to help w/that?

Razor burn is caused by two factors:friction and folicle disturbance.
Using a razor in the shower helps both of these by opening your pores like mount Vesuvius. When this happens the razor tends to lift and cut the hairs rather than pulling them out(reducing folicle disturbance) and it makes for a faster cleaner shave meaning less passes(reducing friction). I wholly recomend trying to shave in the shower if you have irritation issues.

I tried switching to the electric - gotthe mackdaddy Norelco electric razor, the James Bond edition! I figured if it was good enough for 007, it's good enough for me. That mother chafed and burned like hell though - never could get used to it.

The key is to get a decent hand razor (Mach 3 or whatever) and shave in the SHOWER. Opens the pores up - I get a smooth, irritation-free shave every time.

How many damn blades can we PUT on razors nowadays? I'm waiting for the 300-blade version that a professional crew has to come and install in your bathroom. You then just walk up to it and rub your face up and down across a screen of razor blades.

Actually my Dr. said to avoid the multi-blade razors. He said 1 or two blades at most, anything more is just overkill and a marketing gimmick.

Seriously though, how many blades on a razor do you need? Seems like every year they throw an extra blade on.

You ever try Bump Fighter? I have a friend who uses it because he can't use electric OR razors without getting horrible razor burn. It keeps the blades a TINY bit off the skin and gives you a closer shave than electrics.
