Now Taking Requests

I got this really sweet movie editor, and have no use for it. It's a shame really. But hey, it's the summer and I only work evenings, so I have all this free time on my hands. If anyone wants me to make a Redskins highlight clip of a certain player, or a top plays list or something and upload it to youtube, let me know. We already have a lot of spare footage lying around here and I can use anything I can save to my hard drive.

So yeah, taking requests if footage exists.

Heck yeah man. Do it up for everyone. Archuletta, and all the new additions. Be cool

if you get the media connectivity plugin for firefox, you can save anything to your hard drive (including google video and youtube).

If you can find a complete copy of the first dallas game, that's what i'm really looking for. there was never a direct TV shortcut made for it... or the TB playoff game :( two big holes in last year's library for me.

Can you make a highlight reel of Ethan Albright?

I would like to see a highlight reel of Taylor Jacobs....wait, there are no highlights of Taylor Jacobs.

Anyhoo, how about a little Randy Thomas highlight vid?

I would watch that. Some of the pulls that he made during the second cowboys game were amazing, but then he got hurt, and I got a little misty eyed.

I think a lot of us did. I am missing Game 16 and the Dallas game. Would love to have both of those.

MonkFan4Life 06-14-2006 09:06 AM

Re: Now Taking Requests

If you could do the second Dallas game but add the pass when Terry Glenn missed a pass on purpose cause Taylor was coming. Also some of the drive when the PA played "Mama's Don't Let You Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys".

Re: Now Taking Requests
thatguy, do you collect every full game?
I try to get shortcuts of them (30min compressed games, just the plays). the primetime dallas game and playoff games aren't available in shortcut format though :/ so i don't have any sort of copy of them.

i linked a site that's ONLY purpose is to share torrents for directTV NFL shortcuts... that's where i got all mine from, though I imagine the 2005 torrents are pretty dead now.

Re: Now Taking Requests

My plan this year is to get the new TiVo that can burn DVDs. This way I can have an individual DVD copy of each game (because otherwise they take up too much space on my DVR). That way I can watch all of the action and replays from home games that I miss from the stadium. For those of you who collect games on DVD and such, I will be happy to send them out to you (provided I can work out the technical difficulties to actually make this system work!)

Lastly, does anyone know if the DVDs will record in HD? That would be ideal...

DVD resolution is below that of HD TV i believe.

If you save them as data i can divx encode them and rip out commercials etc at full resolution though. A TV out from a computer or a personal video player (video ipod type things) or whatever would be needed to play divx back (some dvd players can also do it). Otherwise it can be turned back into mpeg (which is huge in filesize) pretty easily.

There's plenty of software out there that will do it - just Google it. Most of it you have to pay for, but not much - $25-$35 is the average if I recall.

Of course there are ways to get free software, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

I created this little writeup last year that shows you how to convert MPEG4 to WMV. MPEG4 to MPEG2 should not require all that much modification to what is in the writeup.

Has anyone thought of setting up a really nice, comprehensive video archive/database of 'Skins footage? I'm intrigued...

I wonder if there's the potential for a bunch of legal issues what with video reproduction laws, copyrights, etc.?

Wouldn't be difficult and I've got the web space.

Sit tight...

I just switched hosts and will soon have 16x the storage and 6x the bandwidth of my current site.

But I said a "nice" site for videos, not a Frontpage hackjob ;)

I've got unlimited space and 500GB/month of bandwidth, so that's not really the problem.

I'd have a good time setting it up, it's just I don't wanna get my ass sued for copyright infringement.

What Front Page hackjob are you referring to?

If you start a site like that, your cue to take it down would be when they start going after YouTube and places such as that. If they're going to do anything, they'll target the big boys first.

I'm guessing YouTube could just say "Hey, our users post the video, it's their problem, not ours."

Maybe I'll just go for it and hope for a Cease and Desist notice instead of an all out lawsuit. Cease and desist I can deal with, the reincarnation of Johnny Cochran chasing my ass down I cannot handle.

That argument didn't work with Napster and it won't work with YouTube.

I wouldn't be worried about them suing you, unless you have LOTS of money (with 500GB/mo maybe you do ;)). Also, they would probably tell you to remove the vids before suing (the lawsuit probably wouldn't work out well, if they never told you to remove them).

True - space and bandwidth has dropped to absurdly low prices. Companys give it out like candy. I remember paying $30/month for 50MB...ah the expensive ol' days...

wrong, they host the video's on THEIR servers, so it's entirely their problem. Bit torrent sites can use that excuse, but not youtube or google video.

Good point. I guess I was thinking more in terms that YouTube and Google Video are user posted video as opposed to personally managed, but you're right, really only matters whose server it's on.

I guess with video taken from NFL broadcasts you can duplicate it and do what you want with it as long as you're not profiting, right?

technically you can't do anything with it without their consent outside of strictly personal use. But that's impossible to enforce and it'd hurt their ratings if they lost all that free advertising.

I have all eighteen games from 2005 on DVD, or in DVD format. But the game I go back to the most is the first Dallas game. Those last four minutes are SCHWEET! Those passes by Brunell and the catches by Santana are things of beauty...

Does anyone know of a good (free) converter of mp4s? I need these files in .avi, .mpg, or .wmv.
