The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Just finished ranking the RB's and WR's for the Ultimate NFL Depth Chart on ESPN.com and after submitting I saw the national results so far. The Redskins according to the voters currently rank sixth in both categories. What do guys think?
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
6th seems respectable.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
They ranked 6th when ESPN did that chart this morning, also. They had the Giants 5th though, which I don't agree with at all.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I agree. For being unproven so far, that's being pretty generous. I would stil put us at #3 RB-wise though.

5th at what? RB or WR? If WR, I TOTALLY disagree with that. They have Plexico and Shockey. We have Cooley, Moss and although unproven they're better than what else the Giants have in Patten, Lloyd and Randle El. |

They had them at 5th in the running game. Tiki is talented, but he is getting a little long in the tooth. I'm predicting he'll have a year like Priest Holmes had last year. Hopefully the fumblitus will come back too. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Well, I'll deal with Tiki putting the Giants at 5 considering how he ran last year. I definitely don't think he'll be back like that next year though.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I take more issue with Atlanta being ranked ahead of Washington than the New York Giants. I don't see Dunn and Vick as better than the Skins running game.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Yeah, I agree there. They're going strictly on the fact that all Atlanta COULD do was run the ball. Check out their running attempts versus ours.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I was pretty happy with sixth in both categories. Maybe 5 in RB. As far as depth goes we have great depth at WR/TE. Probably better than the Giants. The whole point of this chart was to rank teams not on individual talent but the overall depth at that position. This made me a little dissappointed in their selction of Manning and Brady as the #2 and #1 respectively. If either one goes down who's their proven reliable backup? Personally, as much as I hate to admit it, the Eagles have pretty good depth.

depth with???? coy detmer? thats a joke... or jeff garcia who threw twice as many interceptions as touchdowns in the 6 games he played last season i wouldnt exactly call that reliable |

I'd say a career 85.8 QB rating along with 19k passing yards and 126 TD passes makes for a fairly reliable backup QB in a familiar West Coast offense. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
yeah but you have to look at what hes done recently, just because his stats of old are good doesnt mean he can still play
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I'm glad Joe Gibbs didn't follow that way of thinking and focused on Brunell's 2003 and 2004 stats rather than his overall career performance.
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Garcia's numbers have been on a steady decline since his 2002 season, you cant compare those two at all, your argument is irrelvant to the fact that they are two entirely different people just because brunell bounced back doesnt mean garcia is going to
|
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Hopefully, he won't bounce back. I don't really want any NFC east opponent to do well. You can't argue that he won't bounce back without someone countering that he will bounce back. I think it's favorable for him to be back in a West Coast style offense on a well coached team. His decline can attributed to a lot of factors (2003 49ers  , 2004 Browns  , 2005 Lions  ).
Listen, I'm not a Garcia fan but he has already shown that he can play at the NFL level. Find me two or three more current backups that have had a better career than Garcia. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
all valid points, i just dont want to believe the eagles are that solid in the posistion

Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
When I watched the 6:30pm Sportscenter the skins were ranked #3 for Recievers, with only Arizona (WTF?) and Indy ahead of us. This was with Golic, Salsbury, and Schlereth ranking them. Dallas was as #5 and the Giants were at #6. All three were given the Skins pretty heavy props for an awesome offseason...then Wingo had to pipe in with "but the Skins always win in the offseason, it's the field where it counts."
Fu*&in' Tre' ...couldn't let a moment go by without dousing the pro-skins comments. I didn't see the RB session. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I can easily see Arizona ahead of us.
They one of the best 1-2 tandems in the league in Boldin and Fitzgerald. Right now we don't have a proven #2 guy. |

Garcia capable of McNabb numbers?? Which McNabb do you mean? The one that put up huge numbers in 2004 or the one that struggled with injuries in 2005? Garcia is definitely past his prime. He's a very capable backup, one could certainly do much worse. But he's no longer capable of putting up big numbers over the course of an entire season. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
On espn the comitators had use ranked 3rd for depth at WR. They had the Colts at #1 and the Cards at #2. I did not catch what they had to say or did I get a chance to see who they had in the top 10. I believe they had the Boys around #7 and we know that was based on TO.

Here's the list on ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?id=2502031
They have us ranked 14th in QB depth, giants are 16th and the 'boys are 19th. Overall we rank better in those three categories better than everyone except the Seahawks. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
I'm actually a bit surprised we're so high at pass catcher.
I love our depth and explosiveness, but we're still a bit unproven. We know what we have with Moss & Cooley, but we still don't know exactly what we've got in Lloyd & Randle El. Nice to see us getting some respect though. |

Right now we don't have a proven #2 guy.
I see the talent in Boldin and Fitzgerald, but the ranking was supposed to include "ALL" pass catchers, including TE's and RB's who catch passes. With our depth at WR and with Cooley (who they gave some nice compliments to) and Portis, I think our package is more complete than Arizona. |

Edge > Portis in the passing game. I agree that I like our overall package better, but I can see why they rated them higher mainly because of Boldin/Fitz who both had over 100 catches last year. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Looking at these rankings I can see why they picked the Cowboys to win the NFC East.

Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
These rankings don't take into account the extreme man-crush the media has on the Tuna.
Man-crush = insane predictions |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Garcia capable of McNabb numbers??
Which McNabb do you mean? The one that put up huge numbers in 2004 or the one that struggled with injuries in 2005? Garcia is definitely past his prime. He's a very capable backup, one could certainly do much worse. But he's no longer capable of putting up big numbers over the course of an entire season.
That's just it. McNabb put up monsterous numbers in 2004, but outside of that one season he's nothing special. Good, just nothing special. His comp. % for example: '00-58.0 '01-57.8 '02-58.4 '03-57.5 '04-64.0 '05-59.1 So hes a 58% career passer, and had an aberation year in 2004. 58% certainly isnt bad, but lets take a look at Garcia's #'s (under Mariucci in the west coast) over the same time period. '00-63.3 '01-62.7 '02-62.1 '05-59.0 This is pretty interesting. It looks like in the years where both men had Owens, they complete a significantly high %. In any situation, the numbers are quite comprable. Of course, the Lions are a far more problematic team than the Eagles, so we really don't know if Garcia has lost a step (he's 36). Gannon was at the top of his game at age 37. George Blanda was past 40 and winning games. I should point out that Owens wasn't the only factor that contributed to McNabb's high '04 numbers, as QB's across the league put up career highs that year. So in conclusion, a long post to prove my point, but I believe that Garcia is still capable of McNabb numbers or better if he has to play. McNabb's intangibles mean so much to that team that there is no controversy at all. It's just that historically, Garcia is the better passer. |
Re: The Ultimate NFL Depth Chart
Edge > Portis in the passing game.
Possibly, but those are two of the top three RBs in the passing game. Both are excellent blockers and great route runners with solid hands.

they just did pass defense.
they ranked the skins #2 |

they ranked the skins #2
I can honestly say I was a little bit shocked by how high they had us. I saw it on a TV at a bar with no sound, so I didn't hear what they actually said, but I felt like the team would be the weakest in this area. Hopefully they're right! |

We have solid/exceptional starters but after that we have Ade Jimoh and god knows who else. They did give Williams all the credit though, and I can't disagree with that. Plug and play baby, plug and play! |

Vick + Dunn = 2013 rushing yards in 2005 and 2008 rushing yards in 2004. I would put them ahead of us. |

Don't forget about Kenny Wright as the nickel corner. Jimoh is our 4th corner, which is a perfect spot for him. |

Jimoh is our 4th corner, which is a perfect spot for him.
I was mainly concerned with our back-ups, but I forgot about Wright and I guess Jimoh is a good 4th. With the scores we should be putting up on offense I think we're going to need good pass protection. |

and don't forget about Duckett in the red zone. I think we could have been a notch higher in the RB ranking but I completely agree with the placement of the team in the Pass Catchers ranking and actually think they should be #2-3 in pass defense with Carolina who they ranked as #1 not even in the top five. Tonight they rank the rush defense and I see them having us around the 4-8 range. And as somebody has said, if the ESPN guys themselves r doing these rankings, how the freak can they then turn around and pick the cowpies or wee-men over the Skins? that's something that makes u go hmmmm |

Playmakers? Check Coaching staff? Check Defense? Check So what's the deal?? |
