Did anyone else catch NFL Total Access last night? They had a good interview with Moss and after that they had a nice little highlight clip that T.D. did. He went on record to say that Moss will have 100 catches this year. That would be FANTASTIC!

Brunell will throw about 420-475 times this year, so 100 receptions is pretty unreasonable. 80/1200 would be my prediction for Moss this year.

With how much depth we now have his numbers will probably decrease a bit.

450 attempts at 70% completion rate = 315 completions
30% of 315 completions = 95 receptions

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect Moss to account for 30% of our receptions (if Brunell and Moss stay healthy).

So Brunell is going to have a career season in completion percentage?

Think more realistically. For his career he's a 59.4% QB. His best season was 63.4% in 1996. (I'm not counting 2003 when he only played in 3 games but completed 65.9%)

Even Trent Green never came close to 70% in this offense. The best he did was 66.4.

This isn't a west coast system based on high % passes. There's no way Brunell will hit 70%. If he hits 65% I'll be shocked.

Look at the WRs we have, it's going to be a passing game that will take advantage of their speed. That means deep routes, and lower % types of throws.

I don't think we'll see him throwing as many balls away, but I just don't see him hitting on 70%.

He's a consistently high passer, but 60% is a general standard for greatness depending on the offense.

I think if he catches that many passes...it will actually be a bad thing for the skins' do be honest. If he is seeing the ball that much, it probaboly means our other recivers are not producing like they should be. I'm liking the 80 range of catches. He's still our #1 guy, but I think Lloydd and R'El should see the ball alot too.

Many people on this forum are too critical.

I didn't say that Brunell would complete 70%. I simply did the math to show that it wasn't unreasonable to think Moss might catch 100 balls. But still, people must insist that I am wrong (or unrealistic). Gimme a break!

I don't mind if he catches 100. Simply means he was open 100 times. There have been teams with multiple receivers catching 100 before. it's not a bad thing.

If the new offense is geared towards dumping the ball and quick hitches there's no reason to believe he couldn't catch 100 balls. Truth be told it all depends how defenses play us and the kind of impact our new receivers will have.

If the new receivers garner no respect form opposing defenses, no way in hell Moss catches 100 balls. If they do and they leave Moss in single coverage, well, I'll take Moss over any DB (except maybe Champ, cause we all know Champ is the MAN! :P).

p.s. Portis might have 50+ catches this year.

To catch a hundred passes AND have other receivers still be fairly productive (happy) you need to be a situation where you are more inclined to pass (losing and needing to catch up). Let's hope that we are in a position more often than not that we are running and not passing.

I don't care how many he catches as long as the offense gets in the damn endzone more often than last year or at least puts our defense in position to create a turnover for points.

Certain coodinators (Jim *cough* Johnson) are egotistical, but at absolute best (for Moss), the coverages he sees will be balanced zones, such as your standard cover 3, cover 4, cover 2 etc.

Or in the case of Dallas, the classic cover nobody.

It sure looked to me that you were saying 70% of the passes would be completed, with 30% of that 70% going to Moss.

I wanted to show that it wasn't unreasonable to think Moss could have 100 catches this season--that's all. I didn't offer my opinion on how either would perform. Still, people want to criticize my post. I find that on this forum people are constantly trying to defend themselves (and attack other posts). It sucks.

Don't take things too seriously. I think you just didn't word your post all that well. It looked like you're saying that Brunell will complete 70%.

Relax Inspector. This is a happy space. Remember that we're all hyped up for the upcoming season. Ever since the post-game interviews after the Seattle game we all have been looking forward to August (I love watching pre-season games). Just stay cool and have fun.

315-270 = 45 completions
45/16 = 2.8 completions per game

So, is it unrealistic to believe that Brunell will complete 2-3 more passes per game? I don't think so. I think the argument should be made that the attempts will decline--not so much on 70%.

Either way, it's just statistics--not my opinion.

Nobody in the entire league has completed 70% in the last 4 years.

I'm not even sure the last time someone has done it, because ESPN's stats database only goes back to 2002.

If Brunell does complete 3 extra passes per game, I guarantee you his attempts will go up as well.

Moss averaged 5.25 catches per game last year. To get to 100 and play in all 16 games he would only have to get 1 more catch per game. That is realistic to me. The problem is how all of the other catches are distributed. Cooley averaged almost 4.5 catches per game and no one else averaged more than 2 catches. Let's say some drops from last year and some more people getting open (El and Lloyd) happen this year. Then maybe some of Brunell's incompletions and throws out of bounds, and/or QB scrambles because no one got open suddenly go away...... Maybe there would be another 7-10 catches in there somewhere per game. That would 4-5 for Lloyd and 4-5 for Randle El and maybe a screen pass to Portis a couple of times. Then you get to where Brunell is completing 20 passes a game instead of the 16 passes per game he averaged last year.

It is all possible.

The real problem with moss catching that many passes is that we're going to be so far ahead in the third and fourth quarter of every game that we're not gonna be throwing that much...clintons numbers will be down too because betts and rock will see most of the action late in games...and all of lenny p's worries about jason campbell not getting enough playing time can be put to rest too

-EDIT- Ken Anderson completed 70.6% in 1982. He only played 9 games that year, but still had enough attempts to qualify.

Saunders is more about spreading the wealth. The only player who has ever caught 100+ passes in a season on a team where Saunders was a coach was Tony Gonzalez in 2004 (102 receptions)

In fact, I don't believe anyone else has even approached 90

That's a great point, and it's also worth noting that Saunders certainly didn't have the wealth of receiving talent in KC that he will have at his disposal in DC. Gonzalez was really Saunders's only worthwhile target that defenses were forced to account for on any given play. That being the case, Saunders learned to rely quite heavily on his runningbacks to catch passes out of the backfield-- when they weren't rushing for 200 yards a game.

In DC, not only will Saunders have a great runningback in Portis to keep defenses honest against the run, but he will also have a trio of receivers-- in addition to Cooley-- whose potential for production could rival that of "The Posse", a trio that managed to post 1,000 yards individually in a single season. I'm not saying that feat will be duplicated by the group Gibbs and company have assembled for the 2006 season, but Saunders and Gibbs [I]are[/I] fellow graduates of that fabled Coryell School of Aeronautics, so the present synergy of talent, knowledge and circumstance does make for some intriguing possibilities.

mark is a quaLITY QBACK LIKE IT OR NOT he will adapt to al's system as well as the rest of our offense mark will not throw the ball to anyone but a redskin reciever or he'll throw it away...Smart guy I' m thinkin..... i cant wait for the season to start either

he's not getting 100. we'll be running more this year, and moss was never a possession guy anyways. it''s hard to hit 100 catches when you're taking every single one of them 30-40 yards downfield.

True story Mattyk...However...what we will see Moss getting his 1500+ (up from 1483)yard season...and quite possibly either Lloyd or Randel El Following with 1000+...should be interesting to see whether or not Brunell goes out early to mid season and the youngster takes over and provides us with that deep arm we need...
