This is nothing new. International auto makers are very smart…they are creating jobs in rural America while the American auto makers are running to China and god knows where else. I got a used ford explorer. I have had it for like 5 months and have no problems. It has 180,000+ miles on it. Its a beast. But for the ladies its my parents camry. We just got the camry like a year ago and didn't look at any american made cars. My uncle got a hummer a couple years ago. My other uncle likes chevys now and has two

Our economy doesn't rise and fall with the automobile. I feel like I should reward which company makes the best product, whether it benefits this country or not. If we keep buying crap (American of foreign) that doesn't give any incentive for said parties to improve their product.

its crazy bc a majority of toyota's are assembled in the US, with parts made in japan[.......I am the modern man!(I hope someone freaking gets the reference)]. I saw a toyota ad, where they were advertising toyota as an american car, which is really wierd, bc alot of times toyota portrays itself as a quality foriegn car.

If you want to go really foriegn go vee-dub,mercedes, mini and mg, aston martin lol, etc.

Chevrolet Truck - American assembly
Toyota 4Runner - Japanese assembly
Acura Integra - Japanese assembly
Jeep Rubicon - American assembly

They've all been great vehicles! If there's one type of car I won't buy, it's European.

I know plenty of people on both sides of the fence, however, I happen to own a Scion xB right now. I love my car. I used to have a 73 Eldorado, though. Now that car was badass! It was just kinda unreliable and a bitch to get worked on. However, I was sold on Toyota when I was riding with a guy I used to work with who had a Tercel with 360,000 miles on it. 360!!

My fiancee test drove those and we both loved them. I was never a fan of the looks on the outside, but the inside was AWESOME. Great mileage and deceptive acceleration.

xA and xB are pretty ugly...however the interior of the xB is incredible. my buddy is 6'7", and his radio station has an xB for their remotes and such. he fits and has plenty of head room.

Auto industry is a small drop in the economy's bucket. It doesn't make sense to buy one nationality of car over another. You should just buy what you want; buying American for the sake of buying American doesn't do the country any good.

I owned a VW Jetta once and while it was great on gas and ran smooth with 125,000+ miles, it nickel and dimed me to death on stupid little repairs. The parts were anywhere from 3 to 5 times more than the same part on a domestic car...or more.

Since then I've owned all American cars and have had GREAT luck with them. My current Ford has over 100K on it and still running GREAT with only an alternator replacement since I've owned it...and my wife's Pontiac has 85K on it and has not had a SINGLE problem. She bought it with 8 miles on it. :)

The trendy thing to do is bash American, and the car magazines have jumped on the bandwagon, but if you take care of your American car...it'll be just as or MORE reliable than a foreign car and you'll save a ton of money on the maintenance and any repairs it may need.

I'll never buy another foreign car again.

But Hondas are made in Ohio!!! Yes, and while it may give Americans jobs, the profits still go back to Japan.

My wife had a Scion tC for a grand total of 7 months. It was a good little car, but in the end, not really what she wanted. We actually got more on the trade in than what we paid for. Thank you Scion "Pure Pricing".

whatever gets me from point A to point B that's all that matters. actually with my two kids i need a minivan (yeah i know, they're not cool). i don't care, i just need the space. my current civic just doesn't cut it for carrying all the shit that goes along with two small kids.

either way if imports are selling its great, whatever. The market in theory will do a decent job of balancing itself out. If everyone starts boycotting imports, or some crazy people on right want to institute legislation to ban stuff like that, it only screws us over in the long run. overall both nations will be able to gain their respective compartive advantage, and open free trade will only help both nation produce, and purchase more for less.
