If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article

you know, this is a gem by pete prisco. Look at who he says is the league's most overrated, and look at the name of one of the player's below him, who he says is one of the league's most underrated. Sweet. |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
we need to WARP that poll! roy williams sucks nuts!
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
lol I love that caption under the picture of Santana Moss.
"Who's in the background, eating Santana Moss' dust? Why, it's Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams." |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Finally someone calls this guy out for what he is... extremely overrated!
Big hitter, but he stinks in coverage. Exhibit A: |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
ST getting some love in that article, very nice!
If he doesn't make the Pro Bowl this year something is seriously wrong. |

That's all he's good for. He's so slow he has to horse collar people. I wonder if they've ever considered moving him to LB. Seems like a better fit there for him. |

Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Their star is on the wane. I couldn't be happier.
Next, T.O. compounds their misery. Happy days! |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I didnt agree with archuleta being over rated. I think he will excell in williams' defense and will be a great safety for the skins.

Archuleta is overrated because this guy thinks the Skins paid too much for him that all. Arch is an upgrade over Ryan Clark. We should be OK in coverage with Springs and Rogers at CB. Every Safety gets beat from time to time, Arch will help in run coverage and the many Blitz designs that Greg W. will put in. We will have two Big Hitters at Safety this year which will scare receivers into dropped balls and short routes. (see Terry "scary" Glenn last year)Arch won't cover much one-on one, but in zones. |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Archuleta hasn't done as much in his career because of injury. He'll be a good addition to the defense, but i can see why Prisco called him overrated. He hasn't lived up to his potential. Hopefully, he'll prove to everyone that he's more than worth the money the Skins paid for him.

Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Arch is not as bad in coverage as his rep would have you believe. He isn't great but he can do an average job. He brings some athleticism to the spot and an overall intelligence upgrade. I think he rounds out our secondary and gives us a little more versatility with Taylor. Taylor hits mean(and we love it) but his value is in down field coverage where he is more athletic than any safety in the league, 95% of the CBs and 85% of the WRs. He is a ball hawk who scares the hell out of WRs and most TEs. Arch can support the run almost as effectively(if not as spectacularly) and Taylor is clearly an upgrade in coverage than any saftey we have had in years(or ever really).
If healthy our secondary is the best in the league without doubt. A pro bowl quality CB on oneside. A quality(maybe probowl if he continues to progress) CB on the other. An elite Strong Safety. A somewhat overrated safety who will asked to do what he does best. Our depth is weak but we can cross our fingers. |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I also don't think we are planning on having Arch doing a lot of coverage anyway. I think he's supposed to be playing up in the box so that Taylor with his freak athleticism can do what he does best.

Taylor is a free safety, Archuleta is a strong safety. |

Maybe after Parcells leaves and the team moves back to the 4-3, they will consider something like that. |

Yeah I misspoke(typed??). |

If a guy like Arrington has problems shedding blocks to make a play someone smaller and less talented like Williams would be a pushover. I think he'd be better at bagging groceries in Santana's neighborhood Safeway really. |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I would also disagree with him saying big Ben is overrated. He is what going into his third year as a player and has won over 95% of his games. He saved them in the playoffs after the bus fumbled the ball and for his age has managed the field very well. Oh, and he has won a SB as the youngest QB ever and that should be enough in itself.
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Good job legitimizing this thread firstdown. Now it can't be called a homerfest.
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I also dont think that taylor should be in the under-rated column, his is going into his third year as a number 5 draft pick, recievers fear him and quaterbacks dodge him, but i'd say if he doesnt make the pro-bowl this year somethings up.
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Archuleta's coverage skills are pretty weak. Williams will mask his weaknesses as much as possible and have him play closer to the line. I'll guarantee one thing, you won't see him covering a #2 receiver let alone #1 WR solo.
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Hey guys, remember that time roy williams got burned twice by Santana and lost he game for the cowboys on nationat TV? That was pretty awesome.

I do think that Ben is overrated. Look at the situation that he landed in when Pittsburgh drafted him. He went to a team that has a solid ground attack, a good o-line, good receivers and one of the best defenses in the league, not to mention very good special teams play. Hell, I would bet that Eli or Phillip Rivers could have put up simialar numbers to Bens had Pittsburgh drafted one of them. IMO, Ben landed in the best situation imaginable for any young QB.... |

Sure he landed in an ideal situation. But he's contributed his part as well. QBs get tons of hype, especially when they are winners. Ben is a winner, nobody can deny that. His hype is definitely overplayed, but at the same time he is a quality player who is still has plenty of room to grow. |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I understand what 8588 is saying though. Put Roethlisberger in Texas or Detroit and would he have done the same? Put David Carr in Pittsburgh, what happens?
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
Put Ben in Texas and they would still stink. Carr in Pitt? I highly doubt he would have enjoyed the same success.
In Pittsburgh I think they captured the perfect mix of a young, talented QB and a team well built to mask his weaknesses and exploit his strengths. |

It's sort of how it took Sean Taylor missing the Tampa game last season for a lot of people to appreciate his value. |

When did that happen? Surely you can't be talking about All-Pro 3 Time Pro Bowler Roy Williams? Must be some other guy, because i know that RoyGod would never do something as bad as that. |

average? for the money were paying him he better damn sight be better then average,he needs to make the probowl,we shouldnt be paying that kind of money for average |

who would you have chosen to be our overrated player instead? AR-el? carter? samuels? has to be somebody, and i think that's the right call. for under rated you also had marcus and griffin and cooley... taylor is actually better know than all those guys (maybe even combined). i had real problems with both roth as overrated (W-L, SB) and carr as underrated (i honestly think he's just not that good). |
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
big ben is overrated. He is in an amazingly easy system for a QB. He proved himself in the playoffs a bit but he didn't in the super bowl. This article made me so happy. I hate williams
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
i do think williams is a bit over rated but.... i could easily see him along side sean taylor in our defensive back field.in the right system he could be a monster
|
Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
I am glad Sean if finally getting his due in the NFL. He is probably top 2 or 3 at his position. The thing I get so pissed off about is the kicking and beat down the give Arch in every article I read. They keep bringing up the coverage skills. One, he is playing in a totally different defense, it isn't the cover 2 crap they played in St Louis. Two, he will not be asked to cover guys for an extended period of time, due to the aggressive style of defense we play. Three, Sean is our better coverage safety anyway, plus I think Arch was in the plans when we all say Clark get run over by LT in overtime. I believe, if you dont tell me why, that Arch was brought in more to rush the passer as a blitzer and cover the run. I dont think he is going to be in pass coverage as most seem the think.
But, Sean "grim reeper" taylor is a total beast. PS. sorry if that is spelled wrong. |

He is young and new to the NFL and thats the reason he is not overated. The guy has gone in and done everything that his team has needed and then some.

Definitely. A big hitter with minimal coverage abilities...sounds like someone else I know... |

Re: If you don't like Roy Williams you'll love this article
exactly arch is a strong safety, just like roy plays less in coverage and more to the line of scrimmage for the run support. But roy had the reputation of being this all around badass safety which is truely not the case. He is in no way deserving of ed reeds contract figures.
