Vikings: Pushovers?
Just wondering if anyonen else is worried about the opening day game like I am. Sure, the Vikings lost their #1 WR in free agency, but they have the best guard in the game coming over, right next to a Pro Bowl center in Birk. The running game shouldn't be too bad.
Their defense has also been steadily improving over the years. In addition, they added Chad Greenway in the draft who should contribute immediately. For some reason, I don't think this will be the blowout many of us are predicting. Thoughts? |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I think this is a team we should beat. I don't think they are pushovers, but Brad J. has to be close to empty in the gas tank.
I see us pounding the ball for like 180 yds. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I admit that Brad Johnson is old, but he is a late bloomer of sorts. We must not forget that he won a superbowl, and with protection he can be a dangerous quarterback to face.
I still think we'll win the game...there have been too many changes for the vikes in the offseason. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
We will win the game but don't expect a blowout. The Vikes will be ready to show that all of the distactions of the last few seasons are behind them. They will play hard and give us a good game but we have way too many weapons and I dont think their d is the stong point on that team.
on a side note, I heard BJ might hold out. he will be the lowest paid starting qb in the league. I dont think thats right being that he is a SB winning QB. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
42-0 by the end of the first. :D
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I think we'll win, but by no means will it be a blowout.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Let's see...
Brunell vs. Johnson = REDSKINS Portis/Betts vs. Chester Taylor/Mewelde Moore = REDSKINS Moss/Lloyd/Randel El/Patten/Cooley vs. Koren Robinson/Travis Taylor/Troy Williamson/Marcus Robinson/Wiggins = REDSKINS O-Line = REDSKINS Defense = REDSKINS Special teams = REDSKINS John Hall vs. Ryan Longwell = VIKINGS, I'll give them this one! |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I get nervous about every game, in fact I get really nervous before some games because I feel like I'm not nervous enough. I guess I'm just a worrier, that's probably why my friends call me whiskers.

Half or quarter? ;) |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
We are at home, in a season opener on national TV and FIRED UP!!!
I think the Skins win, but it may be closer than you think. Chester Taylor was a good pick up at RB. I think he will be a pleasant surprise for them this year. |

But your point is well taken! |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
The only reason Im nervous is that I think it will take a few weeks for the players to become confortable in Saunders offense.

...and in the meantime the vikes defense may have figured out how to play up to their expectations. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I'm willing to take the players off of the board for this one.
Match up the coaches in this case. While Childress may turn out to be a very good coach, he'll be sitting at the grownup's table for the first time ever, matched against an offensive coordinator with more head coaching experience, a defensive coordinator with more head coaching experience, an offensive line coach with more head coaching experience, and inarguably one of history best head coaches. They will be in a stadium full of Redskins fans (since the Vikings aren't exactly a traveling fan base), who will be Monday Night loud. The Vikings will require perfection from themselves and mistakes from their opponents to win this if personnel was even. OK, now put the players back on the table. Jesus. Our guys are a lot better than their guys. Redskins by 14. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Im with yall im nervous come every game we play, but thats part of the excitement of watching if i were to go in thinking wed blowout every team then id just be even more pissed off when we lost, you just gotta remember on any given sunday anything can happen...
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
The only games that really make me nervous are divisonal games. Don't care how bad or good the NFC EAST is, usually those games could go either way.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
skin and not that close... too many changes in vikings land.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I can't see the Skins losing an opening, Monday night game, against a team like the Vikings. Not saying it won't happen, just can't see it going down like that.

Quarter. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
It's scary to play a team like the Vikes. We don't know what to gameplan for...
It's going to be alot closer than what everyone is expecting. |

Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
TDs: Portis, Moss, Cooley, Lloyd
Hall kicks 3 FGs. So... |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
37-7 : Ballgame. Skins win.

Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Damn you Brud, you beat me to it, you win this round.

You're right. That's why we have to run up the score so the game doesn't come down to Hall's foot. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I think this will be a very tough game. Our offense will struggle the first couple weeks being a little new.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
The Vikings are the kind of team I would be worried about if this game was midseason. Because this game is at home and because it is opening day, a night game no less, the Skins will win it. (It's also on grass...and the Vikings track record on any grass field that isn't Lambeau would make any Vikings fan puke.) It's also Childress' first game as an HC and they always say how tough it is to win your first one.

The OBC won his first one. The Skins have a knack for turing every "easy win" game into a challenge. But I think we'll have about a 4 point line on this one. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
The first game of the season always scares me the most. You really have no idea how some teams are going to look, and that goes for the Skins as well.
Are they going to come out firing on all cylinders? Will they struggle early on to find their groove? |

Are they going to come out firing on all cylinders? Will they struggle early on to find their groove?
Which is why we were so fortunate to draw a home game vs. the Vikings on opening day. The offense can come out slow, and the Skins can still win pretty easily. Not that the Vikings won't be competitive, but at home, we don't need to play our best football to beat them. |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
GTripp, thats the kind of attitude that could do the skins in on opening day. Lets hope the team doesnt think that way or we all could be saying, "What the hell happened?"
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
You guys talk about us learning a new offense, so are they...and theirs is a lot different from the one they had before. Gregg Williams knows how to stop the eagles offense, so he should be able to stop this one because it is the same thing, but with worse players. We should definitely win, but I'm still worried.

Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Things to consider with the Vikes:
Can Moss and Lloyd perform well against Antoine Winfield and a healthy Fred Smoot? Smooty was hurt last year and had a tough season, but he's a solid player, and healthy again. Luckily their nickel CB sucks, so Randle-El may have opportunities here in the slot. Do we have the CB depth to match up with Troy Williamson, Koren Robinson, Marcus Robinson, and Travis Taylor? Exactly how good is our nickel, Kenny Wright? Can our D-line get to Brad Johnson? Their tackles are iffy, but exactly what do we have in Andre Carter? I'm confident in our offensive line's ability to create holes for Portis. I'm confident Brunell won't make bad decisions. I'm very confident in our return game. And I'm extremely confident in our run defense. But there are concerns when we match up with the Vikes. Luckily the things I feel confident about outweigh the things I'm concerned about. Redskins 24, Vikings 16 |
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
those are all junk WRs. our nickel is fine, but not great against speedsters. I wouldn't worry about their passing game too much.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
I don't think that any game in the NFL can be considered a definite win. However, I do think the Skins should and will beat the Minnesota Vikings. Chester Taylor doesn't really scare me too much. Niether do the wide recievers on that roster. Defensively, I think they could be solid (middle of the pack) and they have a new coach. Who knows how long it will take them to come together as a team. I don't think this a definite win, but certainly a game they should win.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Kenny Wright was a 16 game starter in Jacksonville for the #6 overall defense (#7 Passing). Yeah, I'll let him sit at the nickel. I'll let him start if Springs is feeling 31 years old.

I will, but Gibbs is too good of a coach to allow that to happen.
|
Re: Vikings: Pushovers?
Exactly. I don't remember the Skins ever looking over-confident last year (maybe the Giants game, but that was such an anomaly.)
