WR- Mike Williams
There have been a few reports that mike williams for the lions could be on the bubble to even make the 53 man roster. The reports say he is over weight and m.martz isn't happy. What do you guys think, if he is released should we sign the guy?
I think we should at least try him out. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
We just got rid of an underacheiving WR in Jacobs who couldn't crack the WR rotation. Why would we bring in another one?
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
No question...but he won't clear waivers and we will not have a shot at the guy.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
No way, if M. Martz doesnt like him what makes anyone think that Gibbs or Saunders will? Think about it like this, Martz offensive philosiphy branches off of the same system that Gibbs and Saunders does. So if Williams doenst fit in there then their is a pretty good chance that he will not fit in here either...
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
If he can't play WR for the Lions, why would we want him? He doesn't fit our smaller, quicker philosophy. He's really lazy. Gibbs and Saunders wouldn't put up with that.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
Well we already passed on him in the draft, so I bet he'd pass on him again if he can't make the Lions
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
This is a funny thread because when he got drafted many people here were saying we would regret not drafting this guy. Hind sight is a funny thing.

Here are the guys he's competing with: Roy Williams Charles Rogers Corey Bradford Scottie Vines Glenn Martinez Eddie Drummond Mike Furey If he can't crack the top 5 of that motley crew, why in the world would we want him here competing with Moss, Lloyd, ARE, Patten, and Thrash??? Terrible idea. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
the only WR that detroit has other than Roy Williams that I would consider, and only consider is Carlos Rogers, who by the way seems to be on the outs also in the motor city. But even still that is too many WR's and I still think that Espy should come very close to making the team...
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I think you mean Charles Rogers
I think you mean Charles Rogers
YEAH, YEAH thas him, "Championship!!" |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
Why would we take a look at an overweight, underachieving player who we already passed over in the draft?
Not gonna happen. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
if he doesn't make that team they will trade him for value..., not release him. For example like we did with jacobs.
|

Uh............... Dude???? You must have missed the memo. T. Jacobs was traded for M. Rumph (SF 49ers). |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I find it hard to believe, no matter how strong the reports are that they could give up on a guy after his rookie season. He will make the team there and eventually pass Vines. I don't think hes any good, nor do I think he will be available.

Re: WR- Mike Williams
funny how many users change their tune, most of the people on this site just a little over a year ago were cursing our staff because we didnt get williams

So funny how I was saying the same thing....what a difference a year makes...a little over a year in this case. Man, you should go archive that thread and read it, you'll get a kick out of it! I also find it funny how people say well Cooley and Taylor were no brainers and so forth. But it's the non-move, in many cases, that turns out to be even sweeter. |

Re: WR- Mike Williams
here we go again, another NAME being released and people wanting to sign him. Why to we need another WR. that would be stupid for us to take up another spot for a WR. the guy can not crack the line up in detroit, how is he going to crack it here.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I distinctly remember people we're saying we would regret not "The Soldier" KWinslow.
I think it goes to show one thing for sure - that's why we're the fans and the coaches are the coaches. |

THis is a made up thread just to get one started please provide a link to any related articles about this.

Re: WR- Mike Williams
No Rogers is on the bubble. Go to ESPN or the Lions website.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I thought we only got these type questions in the off season!
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
TAFKAS! I change the answer to my chat to Mike Williams. Well, even though he's NOT a Redskins, we will talk about him incessantly for years to come even when Rogers is making Pro Bowls.

Re: WR- Mike Williams
If there is no truth to this, than howcome I was easily able to find the following link:
Lions' Mike Williams paying a heavy price This guy must be both a fatso and bigheaded. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I say we sign him and make him a TE. The dude is pretty spectacular. Wouldn't you be lazy if you played for the Lions?
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
What happened to the Lions thats their fault they cant keep a happy team, they had all the wr a coach could ask for, just no QB b/c all they do is draft WR in the 1st.

I was one of those folks who was devistated on draft day, curising the Skins. I am currently working on several recipes so the crow Im going to eat wont be quite so bitter... |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
how in the world can you be a very talented football player, go to detroit, and turn into a form of taylor jacobs? what the hell is in the water in motown?
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
Most of you guys wanted us to draft him. Hmmm.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I wanted us to draft him and I was WRONG. We have at least 4 guys who are better players than him right now. No need to spend the money or roster space when we could use it for depth at bigger need positions.
And a bit of a note: Several scouts on various radio shows have mentioned that they don't think he is overweight. Rather he is at his normal playing weight and he is just a big thick guy. Supposedly many scouts felt he had (over)shed a lot of weight prior to the draft to look skinnier and be a little faster even though it was not a permamnet weight loss. To paraphrase. "He ain't fat, he's big boned." |

nice chef Tell metaphor. I always liked MW but I didn't think he was better than rogers for what we needed. I bet Martz doesn't like him even if he was fit. The knock on him before the draft was his lack of speed. Remember him "betting the farm" that he would run his 40 in 4.5 I think? well he lost the farm, now he's eating it! |

Re: WR- Mike Williams
no one cuts a #1 draft pick after 1 year unless there are major issues.

I could have sworn you wrote release him like we did with jacobs. Could have been the case of the missing comma. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I always said take Sean I saw him and knew he was a beast at the U
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
I think I was the most die-hard BMW supporter... I just saw two full seasons of all out domination by a guy who basically carried the SC offense in the crunch. I seriously thought he could do the same thing in the NFL, considering he had lined up across names like Terence Newman, Carlos Rogers and Marlin Jackson during his college career...
I didn't account for attitude... and if he can't adjust to a normal work ethic for the NFL, he's not going to come close to the greatness I predicted. |
Re: WR- Mike Williams
id only pick him up to try and turn him into a h-back (even though we dont use it anymore) or a pass catching tight end.
|
Re: WR- Mike Williams
Forget Mike Williams, we need this 6'8" man-child
