Continuing our food theme of the day, how do you like your pizza?

Wow this really depends, I mean you could have some killer chicago deep dish, or some great italian thin crust. I would honestly pick a bit of both, because if done right, they are both amazing. But I am gonna go with thin crust, assuming is is a nice italian one, not shitty pizza hut.

Actually, I think 2 out of 3 times I'd pick deep dish. First deep dish I ever had was at Pizzeria Due in Chicago. That was awesome. Deep dish pizza in Chicago is amazing, but if you're not in Chicago the deep dish isn't as good.

i'd actually have to split also... you can't beat a chi-town deep dish, but the NY slice is my favorite.

Uno's anywhere on the east coast is decent, but nothing compared to Chicago. But Uno's deep dish dominates most other deep dish in the area.

out of the 2 I lean more towards thin crust but I love a "pan" or "original" style crust that has some crispness to the outside but nice and chewy on the inside.

Apples and oranges. Whichever suits my mood. Thin is probably the go to on most occasions considering there are few places that do good deep dish outside of Unos.

I like deep dish, thin crust feels like i'm paying more for less.

I went thin crust, because (but for a few exceptions) crust is merely the delivery mechanism for cheese, toppings, and sauce. Oh, sure, there are a few delicious crusts out there, but I'm eating pizza because I want all the good stuff on top.

It's the logic behind the Double Stuff Oreo. That cookie sells. I don't see a stampede for the Extra Cookie Oreo.

There is clearly a time and place for thin crust pizza, but having grown up in the neighborhood of Old Forge, PA pizza, I learned to love pizza with body. Old Forge is famous for it's double crust white pizza. I used to eat it by the tray. If you haven't had it... it's definitely worth the pilgrimage. Ghigarelli's, Arcaro and Genell's, and Revello's were my faves back in the day.

Luckily, I now live 30 minutes from New Haven which has some pretty famous 'za in it's own right, albeit thin crust. Pepe's, Modern, Bar and Sally's are all top notch.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for, both are great in their own right. But overall I prefer thin crust, NYC style.

You haven't had pizza until you've had authentic NYC pizza.

It has to be deep dish. If I say thin crust, the Cook County Sheriff would be sent to my house to kill me on the spot. I don't want that.

Bottom's Up here in Richmond has some pretty amazing deep-dish, but more often than not I'll go for the thinner, Italian-style crust. I agree with Brud and canthetuna's crust-as-delivery-mechanism assessments. For me, it's what's on top of the pizza that matters most. Sure, a well-made crust can enhance the pizza-eating experience, but if the toppings are crap, having nice dough underneath isn't going to do anything for me.

deep dish for dmek and thin crust for the family. it seems like with the thin crust automatically comes oodles and oodles of grease. there is just something that turns me off about eating pizza and grease dripping all over the place

so would u recommend Bottom's Up? I've heard they aren't too bad but at 6.75 a slice it's expensive as all hell.

Yeah, Bottom's Up is definitely the best deep-dish pizza in Richmond, so if that's your thing, you've got to try it. As far as the price, their slices are huge, and they're usually loaded with toppings. This is the kind of pizza slice you have to eat with a fork and a knife, and most folks can't eat much more than a single slice. So really, if you compare it to most other entrees on any other casual dining menu, it's really about average.

I still prefer an authentic Italian thin-crust to any deep-dish I've had thus far. Of course, I've never had real Chicago deep-dish, nor have I had a NY slice, so you could say my pizza experience is somewhat limited.

I'm more of a thin crust kind of guy, and since I've never been to Chicago, I can't say that I don't like deep dish.

but to me, locally, Ledo Pizza has the best crust.

I deliver pizzas part time after my real job and the thin crusts are frozen and shipped all over the country. So if you care about freshness then deep dish or regular is the only way to go

chicago style is more like an actual pie, doesn't count

You just don't notice all of the grease because sauce is on top in the deep. It's there, and more of it.

Sorry dude but most decent piza places do not use frozen crust and if that was the case why couldn't deep dish crust come frozen. I like both but 99% of the time its thin NY style. I actually do not know of a good place to get a deep dish pizza in our area. Anyone who want to recomend a place I live in Northern Suffolk Va.

Thin , most deep dish ... too much bread . I have not been to Chicago , so I have not tasted the real deep dish . Thanks, in part, to this thread I went out and got some pizza from Sbarro. I always think of that as good pizza, and yet every time I go(not really that often) I am disappointed by their pizza.

Deep dish baby! I don't care if it IS Pizza Hut or Papa John's... deep dish is always delicious. My wife got me shipped an authentic deep dish from Chicago for my birthday and it was fantastic.
