Superstar mode
How many people that play Madden are addicted to this like I am? I've been playing SS mode pretty much everytime i get my hands on the controller. What has made it so addicting for me is because they changed it so you only control your player. It's given me a new look on individual player positions that i hadn't experienced before.
On the other hand, my experience hasn't been completely enjoyable. I'm doing a wide receiver currently, it seems to be the position everyone is doing. Unfortunately, i just had to get drafted by none other than the Pittsburgh Steelers. At first i thought it would be okay playing for the Steelers, but now i know exactly why Plaxico Burress and Randle El left as soon as they got a chance. I've done 4 games so far, and the run to pass ratio is 32:18. This is extremely annoying. Not to mention that when they do throw the ball, Roethlisberger never looks at me because i'm the rookie, or for w/e reason. Not to mention if we're leading in the third quarter, i'd be willing to bet Roethlisberger won't throw another pass the rest of the night unless we get behind again.I can't wait until this two year deal is over and i can leave, hopefully for the Skins. |
Re: Superstar mode
Its fun SS mode but I hate the 360 version Im going to return it and put it towards Saints Row when it comes out next week. Im keeping the XB version of Madden but I dont see anyreal improvements to this year's addition, where is the defense at??? When are the roster updates going to take place.
The 360 version and XB and small rating differences for the Skins some are better on one than the other ??? Its ridiculous. |
Re: Superstar mode
I've never gotten into the superstar mode. I just like to plow through season after season, I really like the offseason stuff and building my team. And I like to battle online with one of my friends, we go way back playing Madden and Tecmo together.
I might have to give this superstar stuff a shot though. |
Re: Superstar mode
SS is better now. you can't role a 99 speed WR and mae him a DE anymore though ;) but you can add 4 spd, 8 awr, and 4 sta during the preseason to your guy (beside the normal progressions).
2007 has at least 500 errors in its roster (rosters missing players, players not existing that'll make cuts, position errors, contract errors, etc). So i'm working on fixing that. |
Re: Superstar mode
You know, I'm enjoying Superstar mode a lot more than i was last season, but i'm seriously starting to hate being a wide receiver on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before i continue, let me apoligize for this cuss filled rant that i am about to unleash upon the masses. If you don't want to read it, please feel free to not, but i need to unleash this anger before i punch my t.v. in a fit of rage.
[rant]WHY, OH WHY, does Bill Cowher suck so much ass at calling plays in Madden. You'd think that he'd learn from the other 31 coaches in the NFL, that when you are down, it is best not to call fucking run plays all the m.f.'ing time and use PASS PLAYS. I'm a god forsaken wide receiver, with 94 speed and and the ability to burn defenders all the time, but according to motherfucking almight B.C. all i'm useful for is run blocking. For instance, on this one stupid ass touchdown drive that lasted all of 41 yards, he ran the ball 8 times, and passed once, which was one third down btw. And you know what else, even though it was a pass play, as soon as stupid ass ben got the ball he took off running and didn't even bother going through his progressions to see if anyone was open. The Steelers are now 3-7, having lost four straight, and the percentage we ran the ball in those four losses was like 65 percent. Not to mention big ben is acting like mike vick every time a pass play is called, half the time he won't even look at anyone, he'll just take off running. In my latest loss, we were down by 10 at the start of the third quarter, and everytime we got the ball we'd run twice for like -3 yards then throw it on third down, only to get incomplete or ben would get sacked. He's averaged under 75 passing yards in the last four games too. In 10 games so far, i have 11 catches for 217 yards and 6 touchdowns. You wanna know why i got 6 touchdowns, was because everytime a pass play was called, I ran deep and beat the coverage to get the score. And you know what the worst part is. After my latest loss i simply gave up, and decided that i would go and get a trade, even though it would make me look bad. So i go to my agent's office, lo and behold the stupid fucking trade deadline has already passed. Now i still have to go through 6 more games with this stupid fucking team before i can ask for a trade, since i can't ask to get released. [/end rant] In the end, there's only one lesson that can be taken from my rant. If you are a wide receiver, and you get drafted by the Steelers, either immediately ask for a trade or announce your retirement. That is, unless you love run blocking. |
Re: Superstar mode
be a safety, you'll play every down. and you can return and cover kicks if you want. I got a (HoF SS father, mother - track star) with 97 speed. if you take a HoF corner/track star, you're pretty much gauranteed 99 speed, which makes everything SOOO much easier. track star/4x40yard dash for life. I even managed to break 4.2 in the 40 (4.18). entering the league at 99 OVR and i still don't get taken until the 4th round :(
|
Re: Superstar mode
I still haven't figured out how to run the 40 or do the bench press. I heard it was included on the ps2 but so far i haven't seen anything about it. When i did pre draft workouts for teams it was just the standard drills they had last year.
Oh yeah, and as for my Steelers wide receiver, i noticed that the rosters were the standard ones that come with the game, not my edited version with all the roster updates and such. That finalized my decision to retire. I've started two new SS careers instead of one this time, so i can get different perspectives and such. One of them is another wide receiver i made, I really liked being a wideout so i decided to make another one. My dad was a HOF wideout that said he was his day's Randy Moss and my mom was a sprinter, or some ish like that. Anyways, after the draft i found out my overall was a 90, my speed was 99, my acceleration was 98, my agility 97, and my catch 84. I liked it so i'm gonna keep one with that one. Oh yeah and i got drafted by the Jets, which i hope will mean i get more catches lol. For my other career i started a strong safety, with a HOF dad and a team doctor for my mom. I don't know my ratings yet though, cuz i haven't gotten through the draft. |
Re: Superstar mode
you want a track mother and high IQs. In order to get a custom roster, you have to load it before starting your SS guy, but i think you already know that.
this is borked though - guy i just made: DE, track mom (+5spd), HoF dad (physical freak), IQ 150/150, +4spd from 40yard dashes, +4 AWR from IQ test. (i'll get 4awr/3-4sta after preseason too) OVR: 99 (and again, went in the 4th round) AWR: 88 SPD: 95 (on a DE!) AGI: 89 ACC: 93 JMP: 87 (again, on a DE) TAK: 68 STR: 79 HGT: 7'0" WGT: 415 (phat) so, uhh, i can cover randy moss... still waiting to see if you can actually make a scrambling (vick like) QB though, since that was absent from 2006 and from every madden draft ever (sometimes you'd get a guy with like 86 speed, but 60 acc and agi, which is worthless). |
Re: Superstar mode
btw, you can reload your guy before the draft and keep simming it to get on a better team (like the colts or the eagles). then just put yourself at the top of the depth chart and rack up stats.
and if you're using a defensive guy, get a team with good DBs or they'll get burnt left and right. |
Re: Superstar mode
best scrambling QB:
HoF (dual threat) spd 89 (track +5, 40s +4) agi 75 acc 83 THP/THA 93/86 which is NOT 95/95/95 :( |

isn't it always the wideouts? |
Re: Superstar mode
I got drafted by the raiders and I noticed that they always call run plays as well. And not only are they run plays, but they're draw plays which pretty much never work. Usually i have to audible 80 percent of the plays they call.

Re: Superstar mode
WOW. We need a screenshot of this guy. Use a camera if you have to!
lol seriously. And i finally figured out how to do the 40 and other stuff on the ps2. After several tries the best i managed to get was a 4.48. Anyways, playing SS mode has really helped me understand how hard it is to play wideout in the NFL. I have found a new respect for wideouts because of it. Unfortunately, if there's one universal truth that i've taken from playing this, it's this: In Madden, if you are in the third quarter or fourth, and you're ahead from anywhere by 1-100 points, they will never pass the ball again. At halftime i managed to get ahead 21-20 on a flea flicker. Then, when the second half began and we got the ball back, we ran. And ran again. And again. I saw instances where it was like 3rd and 15, 3rd and 19, and the Jets coach would be calling runs up the middle, despite Curtis Martin having a 3 ypc average. Pennington on the other hand, only threw 18 passes the entire game, most of them in the first half. I mean, what does it have to take for a team to throw the ball while they're ahead. For instance, late in another game, with about 3 minutes to go, i have the ball at my own 18 yard line. The Jets coach called two runs on first and second down, and we gained about 5 yards total with that. Unfortunately, i got a holding penalty against me on first down, and one of the lineman had a false start on second down. So on third down, I had the ball at the 18, and it was 3rd and 20, with 3 minutes to go. You'd think they would call a pass that could get us a first down. Instead, he calls a run up the middle, and Martin gets stuffed for a 2 yard loss. I punt, and the Bills offense manages to get downfield and kicks a 32 yard game winning field goal right before time expires. It's like they don't even care about winning the game. Sometimes, when i'm trying to mount a comeback with less than 2 minutes to go in the game, he'll call runs. I've looked for sliders so i can adjust the run/pass ratio, but so far i haven't seen anything. And i'm afraid that's the way it is with every team. I hope if i pick the Skins in free agency, it won't be like that, but i'm not sure. One thing's for certain, if you're a running back, you'll love SS mode. Ok, another thing that sucks about SS mode, is rushing stats. I just finished the regular season. Look at these stats, there were 26 running backs that finished with over 1000 yards, 14 of them had over 1500 yards, L.T. finished with over 2000 yards rushing alone, and there were 19 backs that finished with 300+ carries, 8 of them finished with over 400 carries, including Ahman Green who lead the league in carries with 471. Oh yeah and one more thing, Greg Jones, listed as a fullback for Jacksonville, had a 99 yard run for a td. How the F a fullback run 99 yards without someone catching him is beyond me. Also, i've given up on being a wide receiver. I catch most of the balls that get thrown my way, but that's just it, none get thrown my way, despite me being the #1 wide receiver on the Jets. I finished with only 34 catches for 570 yards and 7 touchdowns. I'm switching to db now, god i hope it's realistic. |
Re: Superstar mode
After going through the offseason, i've realized something. SS mode is still not where it should be. The fun of getting to experience playing from the eyes of one person on the field is not enough to offset all the negative ish that makes you hate it. That and there are some incredibly unrealistic things about it. One thing i really disliked, was in the offseason, i went to go see who the Jets resigned, released, or signed through free agency. Turns out they didn't sign anyone, they released everyone who's contract was up, including over half the depth, and the same goes for every team in the league. I went to go see what the Redskins did, and pretty much everyone on the team that had one year left on their deals was gone. Mark Brunell retired, Collins was cut leaving the team with a 77 rated Jason Campbell, we only had one backup player on the oline, which was someone at left guard, we didn't resign Lemar Marshall, we only had 3 corners which were Springs, Rogers, and Christian Morton. Seeing that made me realize it didn't matter if i made the HOF, it's just not fun going through all that crap that you go through in SS mode. That's why i'm going back to franchise, where i can resign my players, trade for others, and slowly grow my players the way i want.

Re: Superstar mode
marshall has a 3 year deal... he shouldn't be a FA.
the problem is QBs on non-human teams never progress, so eventually all the teams end up with a bunch of 75-85OVR players and all the QBs have like 70 AWR max. i was a running back for denver and they passed 45 times in a game and ran 6. 6 runs, for the broncos. Plummer was 8/45 with 4 ints and 12 sacks and they just kept passing. I had a 9.8avg too. That's just general fscked madden AI at work though. they have yet to improve it, though running and blocking AI is a bit better, all the cpu controlled QBs seem to suck donkey balls now. |

I mean, the AI in Madden last year wasn't that bad compared to this year. I'm probably gonna have a 360 by the time it comes out next year, although there are some things about 360 that dislike in Madden, like you can't edit player ratings or move a person to another position. Hopefully that's fixed next year. |
Re: Superstar mode
Man, i'm so pumped after playing my first career game as a strong safety in SS mode. Remember earlier when i said i was making two SS mode careers, and one was a SS and the other was a wideout. Well, today i went back and started up the SS mode career. My dad was a HOF strong safety and my mom was a brain surgeon. Well, today i did the draft, and i dunno where i got drafted because I simmed it, but i got drafted by the Browns.
I went through training camp and did the preseason games, and when the regular season started i was a 94 overall, with 93 speed and acceleration, and 72 awareness. Well, i decided i didn't want to play for the Browns, so i went to my agent before the first regular season game and asked for a trade. Well, guess where it traded me. That's right, to the Redskins, in exchange for Pierson Prioleau. I was so happy. I didn't care that it gave me negative ego for doing it. Either way, the MNF game against the Vikings rolled around, and i started off great. The thing i didn't like was how easy it is to pick off qb's. Springs got 3, Rogers got 1, Taylor got 2, and Lemar Marshall got one. Springs also forced a fumble that i recovered. It was an awesome game, and the offense was able to record touchdowns off the turnovers pretty easily. In fact, so easily that the final score of the game was 63-0. Mark Brunell threw 7 touchdown passes, which is highly unrealistic, although most of them were a result of the turnovers. Either way, I'll take it, as i get to play for the Skins now. But it's also kind of odd, because when i was a wide receiver in SS mode they almost never threw the ball, and now i'm playing defense in SS mode and they pretty much always throw the ball. |
Re: Superstar mode
yeah, the cpu QBs seem to be trash now.
btw, someone figured out how to have two players per team on madden (so one guy can be the QB and another can be the RB or whatever) and it works online so you can play 2v2, which is kinda awesome. |
Re: Superstar mode
I'm a TE for the Vikings I love the combo of blocking Recieveing, I've always been a fan of Blocking with a big TE it's fun to pull around the corner and just blow a guy up. I love the Superstar mode, now if I could only get to the Skins! Also not sure if some of ya new this but on PS2 if you press L1 your reciever will wave that he's open and have better chance of getting the ball thrown to you. I'm a 89 speed TE on and I'm averageing 100yrds a game and a Td. and loving every minute of it

You could either ask for a trade and hope you'll end up at the skins, or you can wait until your two year deal is up and hope that the skins make you an offer. |
Re: Superstar mode
I had to be traded multiple times to get to MN and since they are my hometown team(originally from Hokah,MN) I didn't wanna gamble again and get stuck on the Giants or worse cowboys!
|
Re: Superstar mode
Well if you want to be traded to a good team, just save it before asking for a trade, and keep reloading SS mode until it trades you to a team you like.
|
Re: Superstar mode
Alright, i went back to my WR in SS mode. Instead of doing the whole season with the Jets, i simmed it. At the end of the year, my stats were around 60 receptions, with a little over 700 yards and 4 touchdowns. The running back stats were again skewed. I did make the Pro Bowl again as a kick returner. But check this out. Lemar Marshall, the newly signed MLB for the Oakland Raiders finished with over 200 tackles, 10 sacks, 6 int's, 5 forced fumbles and 3 recoveries, and was not only named Defensive Player of the Year, but MVP as well. Thomas Jones was offensive player of the year with over 1800 rushing yards. I decided to leave and check out free agency instead of resigning with the Jets. I got 5 offers:
A 2 year deal with the Chiefs A 3 year deal with the Giants A 2 year deal with New England A 3 year deal with Dallass A 2 year deal with Chicago. I chose the two year deal with New England, because i'd have Tom Brady throwing to me and i'd be the #1. |

Re: Superstar mode
So anyways, i'm playing a strong safety in SS mode right now, and i really love it. I'm having a lot of trouble getting interceptions though, usually when the qb throws my way it's away from me and my guy doesn't react enough in time to get there and intercept it. There have also been a couple times where i've been in perfect position, but the ball just hits him in the hands and he drops it.

too bad they killed 2k off. they were good competition. I just remember not being able to run at angles, which was annoying. solid games though.

Re: Superstar mode
yeah the SS hall of fame mode is pretty sweet . . . started it after i got tired of the skins winning every year
i did 2 seasons with a cb which was alot of fun when the ball is thrown your way (i love reading a wr route, baiting the qb then jumping the route to take it to the house) but there are just too many plays where you are a non-factor so i switched to a MLB to get more action and the skins need a MLB . . . no matter who drafts you its easy to get traded to the skins, you get 2 trade requests a year, if you dont get traded to the skins, restart your ps2 and try again (only takes about 5-8 requests) my mlb is a beast with avg of 200 tackles a season but his sack numbers are so unrealistic with about 50 plus a year, its too easy to build an early lead then have the opposing team go throw oriented leaving the line unprotected tips - put your SS as a backup for another position so he can play on special teams and add about 5 tackles a game, stay true to your position and assignment to get ints, try to strafe before the ball gets to you for a better chance at catching it, on long passes beyond your area still follow the ball and press triangle when you get close (alot of balls get tipped and if you come into the play alil late you have a chance at picking it off) anybody got any tips for recovering fumbles, i cause alot but just cant recover em that much alright, 5 posts in a half hour im out go skins! |
Re: Superstar mode
What's the most fun position to play?
I have a WR with the 49ers who is killing defences. at times it's just too easy. 400 Yard games are too common with 5 minute quarters. He is rated 97 ovr with 99 spd 99 acc and all the other goodies. He is also an awesome return man! I bring atleast one back a game. I have a CB with the skins. 99 Spd but low return skills. Bugs the crap out of the that when he intercepts, he has trouble scoring. I also have a QB with the skins who has a 99 spd rating but he fumbles almost every time he gets hit. Cornerback can get boring when you play against a bad WR and QB. It's alot of fun when you play a really good team. QB is fun at times. It's great when you can make your reads and your WR's get open. Other times it isn't so great because you have limited vision. WR is probably the most fun in my opinion. I don't mind blocking and alex smith always throws my way. |

Re: Superstar mode
I still play my strong safety career occasionally. Last time I played it I was in my 4th season, but everyone who's contract ended during that time wasn't resigned, so i'm playing with an entirely different team.
I'm still looking for draft caps to be done so I can add all the new rookies to my game. Once I do that and get my rosters updated I'm going to start a new SS career as a middle linebacker. |
