smoot's future
Fred smoot got cute and left washington and he has looked like garbage every since how many years do you think the vikings will keep him before they cut his weak non tackling loudmouth no production ass!
|
Re: smoot's future
Uhhh...he is an NFL starter and is more than serviceable. I don't see him out of the league anytime soon.
|
Re: smoot's future
more than serviceable? that is crap he has done nothing in minnisota but get burnt and outplayed be for real that guy has stunk it up and he can't even stay healthy anymore and can't tackle what the hell are you smoking!
|
Re: smoot's future
Why would they cut him???
I wouldnt welcome him back b/c of my sub-personal ties to him. |
Re: smoot's future
in another year he will be an overpaid nickel back
|
Re: smoot's future
WTF? I don't understand where all the Smoot hate is coming from...if he was released today you think the Redskins would even consider him? It's foolish to think he is washed up.
|
Re: smoot's future
It's what people do ..they love the players when they are here .... and when they leave they are the Devil and it's all hate... and Forget all the good... Personally I wish all ex Redskins good luck....As long as they aren't playing the skins... Smoot was a likeable guy and played very well here ...I wish him luck, I wish Ramsey luck I wish Lavar luck I wish Frerotte luck... Steven Davis...all Ex REdskins that provided me so many thrills while they were here...
Peace |
Re: smoot's future
3rd ID, getting spun up about Smoot is like getting all crazy because I've been banging some chick you dated 3 years ago. Move on, dude. She's forgotten all about you.

Peace
Well said. I hope all ex-redskins do well.(exept on gameday vs skins) As far as Smoot, he does need work on his tackling skills. I still think he is a very good 2nd corner. Sure he got embarassed a couple games last season, but if i'm not mistaken, wasn't he injured for more than half the season? |
Re: smoot's future
riggo rules you are an idiot he talked so much shit about the redskins organization and he talks shit like he is a number 1 corner in the league but he was exposed he signed a deal worthy of a number 1 corner but can't tackle and if he were to be released the redskins would not take him back because greg williams knows he is a weak bitch that cant lay the wood the only thing he can do is run his mouth and the majority of you guys think he is a number 1 corner you guys can't be serious it is not hate it is tellin it like it is so for the ones that think i am crying keep it real if he were a redskin right now we would really be in trouble!
|
Re: smoot's future
3rdid, calm down. i dont remember smooty talking crap when he left and with springs hurt, the skins would take him back in a minute. even with springs, smoot would be the 3rd best corner here.
|
Re: smoot's future
jesus, chill. smoot isn't getting cut cause he's still a good corner. he's not a #1.
Are you so pissed cause he left or causse he got paid? I don't get it. There's endless streams of players worse than him, and a whole ton who get paid more too. And if you want to bitch about overpaid guys, there are also a lot of names above his (see jeff george). It's like you spun a wheel, and the name landed on smoot so now he's gotta die. I don't get it. |
Re: smoot's future
you just don't get it time will tell then i will say told ya so! "stay tuned"
|
Re: smoot's future
I can't believe anyone is getting so worked up about a cornerback who was in Washington a couple of years ago. He's moved on, why can't you?
Why can't we all just get along? |
Re: smoot's future
Let it be said Smoot would make our team and play often if it was based on talent alone. Williams would maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses like he does all the players. He probably isn't a #1 corner but that doesn't mean he is a bad player. He played well for us and got someone to pay him big money when the redskins didn't want to. Please relax you are scaring me.

Re: smoot's future
3rd ID soldier -- find me one instance of Smoot badmouthing this organization. When he left DC he actually talked about how he LOVED DC and didn't want to leave. The Redskins refused to pay him (which was stupid, in my opinion) so he went to Minnesota where they offered him a very solid contract.
I'd love to have Smoot back in D.C. Especially with Rogers looking like he's just not quite ready (though I really like what I see, he just needs some more work on timing) and Springs injured/getting older. Smoot was one of them few Redskins that thought like a fan. He openly admitted he hated the Dallas Cowboys, which in my book is enough to pay a player. We overpay all these free agents like Archelletta, Trotter, etc. Yet we can't offer a draft pick, solid starter, and a guy that loves the organization and team a decent contract because he would be getting paid more than our #1 corner? Welcome to the era of the salary cap, as the cap goes up, so do the salaries. Worst move Joe Gibbs made while in DC was letting Smoot walk. |
Re: smoot's future
Smoot just wasn't a good fit in this defense. GW likes corners that are physical and can hit. Smoot is not that type of corner.
|
Re: smoot's future
Smoot is not a complete corner, so he is not deserving of #1 corner money. If Smoot does not rework his deal sometime in the near future, he will eventually be cut and replaced by somebody cheaper & with better skills.
I was never crazy about Smoot when he was here. I am glad we did not overpay to keep him a few years back. Serviceable? Yes. Great corner? No. His skills are diminishing. No need to hate the guy though. |

I think that's the longest sentence I've ever read. Why are you getting so worked up about one player that played for us two seasons ago? Move on man. |
Re: smoot's future
does anyone besides me know what made fred smoot good when he was here? That answer is Champ Bailey. Champ covered most teams number one reciever and that left fred covering whoever else was out there.
|
Re: smoot's future
thank you my point exactly it is nice to know that i am not in this by myself but i do see some of the points you guys did make about this but like i said time will reveal and i will be right afterall.

Re: smoot's future
hes proven himself in minnesota...not. all he's done there is gone on the sex cruise and got himself some legal problems. He's a bone head

I think his "bone head" was the reason he threw the "love boat". In all seriousness, I still like smooty... fun player to watch on and off the field. |
Re: smoot's future
dont get me started on champ overrated bailey. i saw all i needed last season when T.O. walked around bailey like he was an orange pylon for about an 80 yard touchdown. close to mike vick as far as being the nfl's most over rated player

i totally agree with mike vick being the most overrated, i would love to have fred smoot back though he is a product of the system and him did williams system well. |
Re: smoot's future
until he was being stiff armed by a runningback!
until he was being stiff armed by a runningback!
The premier running backs in this league will stiff arm any CB in this league. No cornerback is gonna lay out Larry Johnson or LaDanian. Smoot in our system would prove useful give us that extra few seconds of coverage to allow some of our blitzes to materialize. It remains to be seen . All I know is I hope he looks like a turd on sept 11th. |
Re: smoot's future
Sorry, but I completely disagree with this thread. I thought Smoot was and still is a very good and serviceable starting corner. My opinion, I wished he was still here in D.C., but heck, I also wished Darrell Green was still here (in his prime mind you.)

be that as it may which the last season they were both here i like smoot outplayed bailey but bailey did primarily cover most teams number 1 reciever...so with that being said is smoot minnesota's top corner? i think the answer maybe no |
Re: smoot's future
champ is over rated (he seems to figure out how to magically trip on the turf any time a WR beats him).
smoot is not the #1 in minn, its winfield. that doesn't mean he's terrible, but it really wouldn't be worth it for the skins to pay him what the viking were offering, unlike pierce. |

Thread to no where:

I understand what you mean when comes to the tackling of Smoot, but let's look at the facts. Smoot had more INT's than Champ Bailey for three years consecutively. 5, 5, and 3 respectively. Smoot looks up to Deion Sanders who couldn't and wouldn't tackle on coverage, but Sanders is considered one of the greatest CB's in NFL history. I prefer Darrell Green, but that's my biased opinion. Smoot is one of the best CB's in the league. That's why when Steve Smith and Chad Johnson are matched against him and burn him it's a big deal. Smoot is better than any CB the Giant's have had in the last five years. |
Re: smoot's future
Oops.
I just saw the thread "Smoot's Future, 3rd ID SOLDIER" and thought he enlisted. For a few seconds, I had some respect for the guy. I'm over it now. |
whose gonna burn smoot first?
Hopefully Fauria, just for embarrassment purposes. Yeah, I know, he won't be covering a TE but it would be hilarious. Money must be on Santana. :) |

Champ is at least a top 3 corner in the nfl. Just because he gets burnt a few times here & there, doesn't mean he gets burnt often. They usually don't replay coverage of a corner shutting down a wr, that's why we don't see good corners getting on tv a lot. Remember when deon was here? teams picked on him, not champ. Saying a cb is overated because he gets beat sometimes is like saying a great pitcher sucks because he gives up a home run. It happens to all of them. |

Wow. This is the first time I read this post. And all I can say is wow. Looks like a certain soldier didn't get a party invite on a certain boat last year and now he's all mad. It's ok. You can go to Riggo Rules Idiots on Ice party at the Pond in Anaheim. Right Riggo? ;) |
