9-11-2006
Let us all pause to remember those killed on our own soil on 9-11-2001.
No matter how you lean politically, take a moment, please. I will never forget. Life is not all about football. Life is love, family, friends, shared moments, sometimes tragedy, sometimes happiness. Life is getting up each day, thanking God both for another day, and all of life's blessings! |
Re: 9-11-2006
I will NEVER forget that day.
Rest in Peace to those lost and kill the bastards responsible for such a hellish act. Hail Skins! |
Re: 9-11-2006
Did you hear that they are handing out American flags at the game on Monday. 90,000+ of them, and they're not those tiny ones; they looked like they're about 2'x1' on the news this morning.
That's going to be an amazing site on Monday. |
Re: 9-11-2006
yeah, they were talking about it on comcast. may our heroes from the trade centers and overseas rest in peace.
|
Re: 9-11-2006
That's going to be AWESOME. It's a two-fold good thing. Number one for remembering those lost and number two it's going to give the 12th man an even bigger advantage.

Re: 9-11-2006

Re: 9-11-2006
I'll never forget that day. I work in the financial services industry, and needless to say we were at a standstill for a couple of days.
Definitely a defining moment for our generation. |
Re: 9-11-2006
I still remember the exact moment that I heard about the attack on the Twin Towers. It's kind of weird, I remember my parents telling me that they felt the same way, that they remembered exactly the moment when they heard Kennedy was shot. It's odd how certain experiences can shape a generation.
I send my condolences out to each and every one of the families who lost a loved one in the events that transpired that day. I think this experience allowed me to learn a lot and hopefully gave me some powerful lessons that I will carry with me for a very long time. |
Re: 9-11-2006
We should really have this thread rolling strong on Monday!
|
Re: 9-11-2006
I will never forget and God Bless our Service Members and ONE BIG THANK YOU!!
Thats great they will be handing out flags I remember when they handed out seat cushions. Everytime the Skins scored they went flying thousands of them. |
Re: 9-11-2006
I remember l was living in L.A. at the time and I had to return a rental car. I was listenting to the radio on my way there and I thought the radio personalities were just acting really weird saying, America under attack.
Well as I entered the place all the agents were glued to the TV, no one was helping anyone. I was like, what's going on? For like ten minutes, I thought it was a horrible joke. Go Skins, let's some Purple all over the beltway around ten o'clock that night!! |
Re: 9-11-2006
I was working in a County government building in PA that day. I had been evacuated from my building without even knowing what was happening yet. I drove to my then-fiance's (now-wife) house and saw the TV. It was hard to believe what I was seeing.
I guess this was how the nation felt on December 7, 1941 too. I live near Three-Mile Island and there was panic that a plane was going to hit it. It was discovered later that nuclear plants were being considered by the terrorists. My wife's family is all from or in NY, so it was especially tough. Her sister lost a guy who was a groomsman in their wedding and a close friend. We had a cousin who was stuck in traffic and could've been in the towers. My aunt works in the federal government in MD but luckily not in the Pentagon. Every generation has an event where people will ask "Where were you when it happened..." Events like the JFK assasination are always seared into the memories of everyone. For my childhood, it was the Challenger explosion...for my adult life, the unforgettable event will be 09/11/01. I hope everyone is thankful to the military and our leadership who have prevented this from happening again. It HAS been planned and attempted...and stopped many times. When we fall asleep completely, we'll end up like Spain, France and even England who get hit when they least expect it. |

Definitely not the place, DMEK:) Suffice it to say, we all honor those who lost their lives on that day. |
Re: 9-11-2006
A special thanks to all those armed service men and women out there protecting our freedoms. I will never forget 9-11, and the site of 90,000+ fans at Fed-Ex on Monday waiving those American Flags and screaming there heads off for our beloved team may just bring a tear to my eye. I'm sure we lost some of Redskins Nation on 9-11 so we should all cheer extra loud for them.
LETS ROLL!!! AND HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!! |

They've done it in the pass, but this was like on Tuesday's show. I like the fact they are consistent about their argument. |
Re: 9-11-2006
No I didn't hear that. I try not to listen to the guys on ESPN anymore all they ever do is bash us or praise everything the cowgirls do and it pisses me off. It's good to hear that about Monk though. I don't want to highjack the thread right now so I won't go on and on why he should be there. Besides you guys all know anyway.

Re: 9-11-2006
I saw the events unfold on 9/11 from the NJ Turnpike, and spent 5 months working at the WTC during the recovery. I certainly will never forget.
I went to the first Redskins game against the Chiefs after 9/11, I went to last years game on 9/11. Both had unbelievable atmosphere and made me proud to be an American. Show your pride on Monday night, and show the world that we are in fact United. God Bless America!!! Hail To the Reskins!!! |
Re: 9-11-2006
I was working at a news station, and I had to produce some brief local news segment then I was going to take a nap. I thought to myself "ok let's just get this done with real quick then I go on my break" Honestly, when I heard that suddenly breaking news was coming in from New York that a plane hit a building I don't know why but I turned to my co-worker and said "Osama" I was purely speculating. But to watch it unfold was surreal to say the least
I ended up spending 7 straight days working and sleeping in the newsroom. My mom was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day. Luckily, a last second meeting at her office kept her at the last minute. As part of her job, she was actually overseeing the identification of all the bodies at the Pentagon. It was pretty rough on her. Me and about 20 of my friends and I had come up with kind of a cool idea. For every touchdown the Redskins scored we each chipped in a dollar, for each field goal 50 cents. At the end of the season we wrote a check out to a foundation that was helping the children of Pentagon victims, providing money for them to get a good education. Unfortunately, that was the Marty year so the check was only for like $600. But we got some outside help to bump it over $1000. Not much still, but it felt good to help. So yeah, it's definitely a day I'll never forget. And as much as I'm looking forward to this game I feel very weird when I say or hear other people say "I can't wait for 9/11" |

Re: 9-11-2006
I was in criminology class and the professor came in a bit late and sort of nonchalantly said that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Centers (this was still early in the AM, so there wasn't much news yet). I just assumed that a new pilot lost control of a small plane and accidently crashed into one of the towers and that it really wasn't a huge deal. Of course I was completely shocked when I got back to my dorm room and saw the news. In fact, I was watching live when the second plane hit, as I'm sure many of you were.
For some reason I still went to my next class, but we were only there for a few minutes when someone walked in and said another plane hit the Pentagon and that campus was shutting down for the day. I remember getting back to my dorm room only to hear people cheer because class was cancelled; that really pissed me off because I was still shocked from seeing the footage of the plane. In fact, there was almost a fight in the hall because of those guys, but I don't think they'd actually turned on the news yet, so they didn't really know what was up. I know they felt like huge dicks when they finally heard. All day long we were glued to the TV and the computer and people were freaking out because there is a huge NY/northern NJ population at Salisbury and many people had family in the towers. I had a cousin working in the Pentagon at the time, but he was on the other side of the building, so he was fine. That night the power went out on campus for a few hours and people really started freaking out, but eventually it came back on and we were right back there, glued to CNN just like before. The next day I talked to my uncle for an hour on the phone; he retired FDNY in the 90's, but his whole former company was lost in the collapse. I also eamiled my friend in the Marines, because I thought it was pretty obvious what kind of response the US would have. Like everyone else said, we need to all honor those men and women that lost their lives that horrible day, and we need to put aside our differences and be grateful for those trying to keep us safe everyday. |
Re: 9-11-2006
I will never forget that day. I was on an NYC subway under lower Manhattan right around the time the first plane hit. We made it up town without knowing what happened, and I went straight in to teach my Introduction to Ethics class. One student said she had heard somethig about a plane hitting the WTC, but no one knew anything. At 10 am, class ended, and I foud out what happened. I went straight to Lenox Hill hospital to give blood, and found that thousands of New Yorkers had the same idea. We waited in line, quitely talked, and tried to call loved-ones on cell phones. My sister works in DC and I couldn't get through to her. At some point, a business man covered in grey dust wandered into the lobby--he had no shoes, and was still holding his briefcase. He was yelling that the even took his shoes. He had walked away from gorund zero, and a cab brought him uptown. Hospital folk took him to the ER; he was shocked, but unhurt. Later, in a hospital waitig area, we found a computer and watched the video of the planes hitting the towers in silent horror.
RIP to all who died that day and who died to protect our country. Prayers and thanks to those who serve to protect us: NYPD, FDNY, US Army, Airforce, Navy, Marines, National Guard, and everyone else. |
Re: 9-11-2006
Man, what a day! The stories are endless.
When I finally got to work that day, I found out that one of my colleague's brother was trapped in one of the towers and was later pronounced dead. Seeing him go through that, just brought everything that much closer to home. After they stopped trading on the NYSE for a full day, it just further amplified the tragedy. |
Re: 9-11-2006

Re: 9-11-2006
I was flying that morning. I took off out of Dulles, two gates down from Flight 77 that hit the Pentagon, about 35 minutes before their flight took off. I'm sure I stood in line at Starbucks with people that died on that plane.
New's had just started to break when I landed in Atlanta for my transfer. Of course they shut down the airspace, so all flights were delayed, but they had also shut off the airport terminal TV's to keep people from panicking. The TV's came back on just as the first tower went down, and from there it was pure pandemonium as people bum rushed the airport exits. I was stranded for three days in Atlanta with no where to go and no way to get there, but it was okay because an amazing family of complete strangers opened their home to me. Without hesitation or reservation they invited me in, fed me, and treated me like some long lost cousin that had just been found. I have a different view of the world today than before 9/11, but not for the worse. Today I have more faith in humanity now than I ever did before. The Secunda family of Atlanta, GA showed me more about the goodness of people than a hundred 9/11 attacks could ever erase. |

Re: 9-11-2006
On 9-11 I was in seventh grade, my teacher came and and told everyone that a plane had hit the WTC, and everyone was completely shocked. We all took like five minutes of silence and prayer, then like an hour or so later the class was watching on t.v. when the second one hit. School got canceled after we heard the Pentagon was hit as well, which was only like 10 miles from the school i used to go to. I felt so bad for everyone involved. RIP to anyone who lost their lives fighting the war, or trying to help out at Ground Zero.
On Sept. 11 though i'll be at the game waving my flag proudly. |
Re: 9-11-2006
I was a sophomore at Gonzaga and in my World History class when we first heard about the attacks. Being as close to the capitol building as Gonzaga is i was scared something else was going to happen right there in DC. What a day that was...hard to believe 5 years has gone by...

Re: 9-11-2006
I will never forget that day as it was my 21st b-day and I have a handfull of relatives in the military, one of which was serving in the Pentagon fairly close to where the plane struck the complex. I just remember having this feeling of absolute helplessness and despair as I watched what was unfolding on the tv. My heart goes out to everyone even remotely related to what occured on that dark day.

Re: 9-11-2006
I had just been in the Navy about a year. My ship, the USS Monterey was steaming off the coast of Virginia when it happened. I was in line for breakfast when the captain got on the announcing system and said that America Had been attacked and that it was time for us to do our duty. We set up a defensive perimeter along with other ships along the east coast. I was within cell phone distance so I was able to call my family but coulden't tell them where I was or when I was coming home... mostly because I did'nt know. Not long after that we deployed to the middle east and did lots of search and seizures confisicating lots of illegal oil and other stuff. I get a little choked up thinking about it. I will never forget the people who lost their lives in those attacks and I will never forget those who lost their lives trying to save others. And I will never forget my brothers and sisters in arms who sacrifice everyday to make sure that it never happens again.
