Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Just some highlights for those who haven't seen it.
-Said we were inconsistent across the board, offense, defense, special teams. -He praised the punting game, 37 yard net. -Defense gave up too many "explosive" plays. -Our offense had a couple of nice long drives but didn't finish. -We had 5 plays over 20 yards. -One big play away from winning the game. -He backed up Hall and expressed his confidence in him. -Turning in the Taylor penalty to the league. Said he didn't lead with his helmet. -Good 2-minute drill to get into position for the FG. -Duckett was basically the odd man out with Betts and Portis playing. He went on to praise Portis. He's one of the top players in the league. -Overall theme was inconsistency. |
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
He also said they'd turn in the video of the Prioleau injury -- something about a player taking a cheap shot?
It didn't look like Pierson was touched. Did I hear him right? I also didn't think "inconsistency" was the right way to describe the defense, specifically the secondary. They were about as consistent as it gets -- at letting Viking wideouts get open. |
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
prioleau was by himself when he got hurt (got up from a 2man pile, took two steps, then yanked up his leg after hurting his acl on a turf gremlin).
It was VERY clear and they replayed it. just walking in the open field and coming up limp. same as hayward on sunday and jansen two years ago. acl's are super easy to spot, cause they usually involve someone walking by himself, yanking their leg up (as a reaction after hurting it) and falling down. and then, BAM, out for a year, and gimpy for another couple months after that :/ I was actually looking for the chat link (couldn't find it) so i could tell everyone he was gone for the year right when it happened. |
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Yeah D was consistantly bad. Taylor had some good plays as did Washington. Thought Marshall, Holdman and Rocky played ok, but main weakness was in CB coverage and run defense. Hopefully Williams will employ Jedi mind tricks to make our inside line push toward the ball as opposed to bending the other way.

Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Did he mention the defense not tackling well? I felt like the vikings consistantly got an extra yard or two after the first hit, and that kind of thing obviously helped them keep drives alive.

Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
I like that he's sticking up for Taylor, but is that really one of the most important things to do this week? Although, if it gets the refs to contemplate the possibility that a close hit by him might not be a penalty, it could save us a bad call down the road, 'cause Taylor's gonna hit people.
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Any chance he's trying to save Taylor from getting fined by the league for that hit?
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Once they see the replay I don't see how they could fine Taylor. He clearly hit him with his shoulder and he even pulled up a bit. He could have totally lit him up but he actually showed some restraint. The call was just horrible.
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Gibbs actually praised the punting? Bhaa haaa haa!!! I'm sorry, but Gibbs must've seen something none of the rest of us had seen.
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
A 37 yard net is pretty good no matter how you look at things.
Frost did his job. |
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
I thought punting was fine--except the first punt. I remember an excellent punt that was downed around the 5 yard line. I must say I was surprised, and 37 NET yards is pretty darn good.
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
I can't remember - did the Vikes do anything with the good field position after Frost's first crappy punt? Frost needs to have a few consecutive games with no shanks before I would say he is doing his job. Nobody should be satisfied with him shanking one per game, regardless of how the rest of the punts turn out.

Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Blindly sticking with Hall is bound to cost us another game, two or three. We should at least bring in a few kickers for try-outs.
|
Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Frost kicked pretty well. But Gibbs being locked into Hall has me worried too. When Gibbs likes a guy he is very stubborn about changing things, so it'll be Hall for a while. Let's hope Gibbs is correct, and he snaps out of it.

Good idea - it (sort of) worked with Frost. |

Yes, he is! Locked into the Hall of Fame! |

It's not just the Redskins and their fans that think that. 49ers QB Trent Dilfer, appearing as a guest on Fox Sports Radio, on the penalties being called for hitting quarterbacks: “I’m waiting for them to bring out the flags, and make us all wear flags around our waste. I’m an offensive player but the thing that bothers me, is don’t blame the refs; the refs are just doing what they are told to do by the league. It’s become a two hand touch league, I saw the hit by (Sean) Taylor last night by the Redskins on the sideline, I mean that’s the cleanest hit you cant have and he gets flagged 15 yards for it.” (I guess he meant to say cleanest hit you can have) |

finally someone besides me sees the light. What has John Hall done for us lately? the answer seems to me to be get hurt and still get paid and when we need him most he chokes. We need to have a kicking competition. Hell Hall doesnt even handle the kickoffs. Making FGs is his only job. If a part of my job was on the line for the rest of the company and i choked I would get fired. Think back to opening day last year...antonio brown fumbled a kick return and on monday he was cut. To stick by hall after two years of nothing but injury problems and missing a very makeable field goal monday night has me baffled.. There needs to be a change in the FG kicking department. I wonder Like twilbert does how many more kicks does he have to miss or better yet how games does he have to cost us before a change is made. |

I agree with you here, vaoutlaws2006 - I just don't get the loyalty to Hall. Maybe he has polaroids of Snyder getting cuddly with a goat or something.

Re: Gibbs presser 9/12/06
Shocking news out of Redskins Park this afternoon. John Hall was so distraught over his missed field goal that he made an attempt on his life, according to witnesses.
Hall tried to kick the bucket....but he missed! Thank you! You've been a great audience. Stay tuned for the comedic stylings of onlydarksets. |

Nah - it's on ES.com that you have to watch what you say about Snyder. You can say whatever you want here (so long as you don't cross "The Ego"). |
