Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
Reports are that Troy Vincent will be healthy soon. We need a decent safety, considering the injury to Prioleau and the fact that Archuletta gets burnt like a dime bag a at a Dead Show. I think we should get him if we have the cap space, maybe cut Hall and sign an average kicker which would be an upgrade, to free up some room. I even liked the Cowboys backup kicker better than Hall, he missed a field goal but at least his kickoffs all went deep into the endzone.

Huh?
The Bills put him on IR AllSports' NFL News - Bills place S Vincent on IR |

LEVY SCREWED THE POOCH ON VINCENT We've gotten some more information regarding the manner in which Bills safety Troy Vincent landed on IR. And the manner in which the situation was handled by the team convinces us that G.M. Marv Levy has little or no skill when it comes to the complexities of managing an NFL roster. For starters, it turns out that there really is a "minor" Injured Reserve. It's a procedure used in lieu of an injury settlement, pursuant to which the player is added to IR but must be released when healthy. When a player is on "major" IR, he's done for the year and gets paid his normal salary. But in Vincent's case, the end result is the same -- the Bills will owe him his entire salary for 2006. Why? Because Vincent is a vested veteran entitled to take the balance of his $2.6 million salary as termination pay. And once he's healthy, Vincent can sign with another team and receive wages on top of the $2.6 million base salary he'll get from the Bills. In hindsight (or if Levy had applied any foresight), the Bills would have released Vincent prior to the start of the regular season. He then could have been re-signed after the first game, and his full salary would not have been guaranteed. So while Levy might have been a very good coach, running the team is a much different endeavor. In this specific case, Levy's failure to understand the rules has forced his boss to pay $2.6 million to a guy who was available for only one game. Meanwhile, we're hearing that the injury really isn't very significant, and that Vincent could be healthy soon. So when he's healthy (and then released), Vincent will be able to sign with any other team in the league. Technically, Vincent would have to clear waivers if he's released after the trading deadline. But it's unlikely that anyone else would claim his contract when he can be signed the next day for a lower contract. So look for Vincent to be playing for another team at some point this year, even though he'll be receiving the bulk of his compensation from the Buffalo Bills. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
$2.6M base salary sounds a little steep to me.

just a little? another over priced player thats all we need. we need to stay far far away from vincent |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
That would be if we claimed him off waivers, but I bet we could get him cheaper.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
We have about $3M of available room right now. I doubt we would want to use most of it on an over the hill and injured player.

i couldnt have said it better. We need to stay away from that. Lets hold onto that $3 million in cap room and use it when we really need it. |

Yeah, like Mark Brunnell. Williams defense relies on safeties and corners, without them his defense fails. We have one safety that can cover people, one. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
With Prioleau out, will we see more of Doughty?
|

What does Brunell have to do with this?? He's already on the roster and his salary is accounted for. |

We sign oft injured players all the ime who are over the hill and you're always fine with it, why not try Vincent? Brunnell was oft injured and over the hill when we signed him, same for Barrow. I really don't think Vincent is such a reach here. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
What? We have $3 million in cap space. How did that make it this long without burning a hole in somebody's pocket?
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
sign him to a one year deal. we could get him vet minimum i bet, because he already gets 2.6 mil from bills, so in the end it would be him getting a yearly salary of over 3 mil even if he gets minimum wage
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
Yeah, I think you could get him for the vet min or slightly more.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
He wont be healthy for several weeks supposedly. I would guess he wont get too much in salary. To me he is worth a workout and a cheap contract if we can get him. He need help in the secondary obviously.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
You know what? I'll think I'll leave this one to the coaches.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
Troy Vincent? How old is that guy? He's been around a long time if I'm thinking of the right guy.
Not for that price. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
What I believe most of you are missing is that when he clears waivers, he is a FA, which means he can sign with anyone for the best deal he can get, not the $2.6M he will ALREADY BE GETTING from the Bills. There is only a $2.6M cap hit if someone claims him off waivers, and then it isn't $2.6, it's whatever the prorated remaining salary is at that time. He won't be picked up on waivers.
Assuming he's healthy by week 6, my bet is that he could be had for a $600k signing bonus and vet min for the remaining 10 games, which would be about $500k for the remainder of the year or $1.1M total cap hit for the skins. The guy is an experienced pro and we have a major deficit in the secondary positions currently. If he's healthy we'd be foolish not to at least consider it. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
why not just play the guys that we drafted? Doughty has to learn sometime. Why not see if our investment pays off? Troy Vincent???? uhhhh....no.
|

Uhhhh, probably because we cant draft worth a crap after the third round and Douhty is what, a 6th round selection? |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
Vincent though is a very strong locker room guy. And he was coached by Jerry Gray recently so he should know our schemes. Worth a shot after he clears waivers imo. Might also help getting a professional veteran DB around Taylor and Toast to help them grow on/off field.
I also think Bobby Taylor is floating around looking for a team so we could go with a retro Eagles backup secondary circa 2003...(just kidding) |

Ade Jimoh went undrafted. :) |

And do we really have to go through Ade's history of toastism? (nice word huh?) |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
I was acrually placing the Toast moniker on Rogers after last week's game...
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
he can't make our secondary depth worse, and it's not like champ or ty law are going to be available for vet min any time soon.
why not. he' yet another injury prone player, but it seems like we're trying to corner the market on them anyways, so he can help us there too ;) |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
Doughty oh no...............
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
why is everyone here in a panic? we lost just ONE game? everyone needs to calm down alittle bit
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
this is calm. wait till next week. people will either start jumping off bridges or declaring how our team can't possibly do worse than 16 and 0.
yeah, i know, but that's life. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
I would sign Vincent in a second but don't be surprised if he ends up back with Mean Green...
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
ok, i guess the biggest question is he healthy?

that's never stopped us before. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
speaking of safeties...did anyone notice that cnnsi listed Springs as a safety, I thought that was sad
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
I'd take him over Doughty in a second, from what i saw of Doughty in preseason he looked like toast out there. But if Vincent got injured again, i'd cut him.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
doesnt sound like he's lost anything
Vincent, 35, was in his third season with the Bills. He had a career-high 102 tackles and four interceptions in 2005 - his 14th NFL season. i think he's def worth a look when he gets healthy |

Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
I think last weeks game showed us without a doubt that we have no depth at CB. Even if we do not look at Vincent, we need to look somewhere.
If Buffalo has to pay Vincent's salary, we might be able to get him very cheap for 1 year. |
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
i say go after him we have nothing to lose just for rest of the year
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
I just can't see us signing Vincent....no way, no how.
|
Re: Troy Vincent available soon....why not?
i can, 1st we have snyder as a owner and we need a quick fix, he could really help
