Two Bright Spots

I thought Sean Taylor and Lemar Marshall played exceptional football tonight. It seems to me that Mr. Taylor and Lemar Marshall are very quietly fighting for who's the face of the defense. Taylor's run defense seems to be almost as good as any linebacker playing for the Skins right now. And Marshall is holding his own in pass coverage.

Seperately, Sean Taylor laid the wood tonight! I can't imagine what our defense would be like these first two games without him in there.
I honestly didn't believe he could get in the head of player T.O.s caliber, but on a couple of occassions T.O. heard footsteps and short armed a couple of balls.

Kudos to these two studs on our defense.

Re: Two Bright Spots

Sean Taylor is our best player. He is our best defensive player as well as one of our best offensive options at the moment. At one point I was rooting for our offense to go 3 and out so I could see him on the field some more. (and I obviously didn't need to root that hard). I figured he had a better chance of causing a fumble/int for a TD than our offense...

i think that both played ok, but what the hell were both of those guys doing on glenns long touchdown?

That was the question I was going to ask? It makes no difference how well they played if your'e going to give up the big plays.

it's too bad lemar isn't al wilson fast. when he has to run a seem with a WR, he can't keep up. not his fault, but the defense requires him to do it quite a bit.

Agreed, Taylor had an excellent game. Three bright spots, though. We punted very good tonight too, for what it is worth.

Re: Two Bright Spots

thatguy, if you understand marshalls lack of speed, why call for that coverage? no linebacker in this league can cover terry glenn 40+ yards down the field. and i am not bashing marshall, i think he should have made the pro bowl last year

Give Frost credit where it's due. We had to punt so many times, he got in lots of practice.

Frost was at least our seocnd best player last night. I am now going to run away scared that I had to type that sentence.

How about Rock's return?

That was the only bright spot if you ask me.

FRPLG 09-18-2006 08:32 AM

Re: Two Bright Spots

Yeah that was good return too. He made some guys miss.

it's just part of cover 2 that it can happen. it's painful to watch though, cause you know he's in a no win situation.

Re: Two Bright Spots

I am amazed at the number of plays #21 is involved in the tackle or "on the ball". he has incredible ball sense. It was good to see the Rock get the return

Re: Two Bright Spots

it was a good return matty for sure. made the score look a lot better than the play was...

i agree though, taylor single-handedly tried to give the O a chance to tie.

brunell would have none of that and demanded that roy williams take the ball instead.

lemar is the man too. rest of the D is pretty quiet.

The difference between last night and last year is that you guys had a safety and a cornerback get burned, we had a safety and a MLB get burned.

I guess things will be better when we get our best offensive and defensive players back.

Agree. ST is a beast!! I feel blessed that he's a Redskin every time I see him play.

Question - do you guys feel Sean Taylor being in on so many run plays is a good thing or not?

ArtMonkDrillz 09-18-2006 01:37 PM

Re: Two Bright Spots

It's probably bad for the most part, because it means that the running backs are getting past everyone else. Now, if he's coming up and making the plays at the L.O.S., that's good, but it could lead to him getting burned by play action at some point.
Basically, I have no idea.

Re: Two Bright Spots

I don't know, but a lot of his stops seem to be right at the second level. You know, in the general area of the linebackers. Sometimes he's even in the backfield.

BDBohnzie 09-18-2006 04:23 PM

Re: Two Bright Spots

On Glenn's long TD catch, it seemed to me that one of the DBs on the right hand side of the field bit on something and didn't drift back...hence leaving Taylor to come across and Marshall gasping for air...

Re: Two Bright Spots

S.T. "the grim reaper" is by far our best player, he hustles and is always around the ball, He has probably had 3-4 turnovers for our team over the past 6 games. Too bad the offense sucks and can't score, I guess we will just have to leave it up to him to be our most explosive offensive and defensive player.

It is usually a safe bet that you can get a sack on Bledsoe before Terry Glenn gets 40 yds downfield.

There was a bright spot last night? I guess I'm just a "glass is completely empty" kind of guy after that game.
Question - do you guys feel Sean Taylor being in on so many run plays is a good thing or not?
They showed a replay of one of his tackles and he was pretty far back and before you knew it he was making a hit around the line of scrm.

It's part of being a Safety, but yeah ideally our D-Line/LBs would be stopping the run at the line...last night was bad man. the cowboys were supposed to have a weak O-Line!

Yep. I have to say Frost kicked ALOT better last night...of course he had plenty of practice!
