Family

Here's the thing. If you are a Skin from the genesis or new. You must stop now and ask yourself a question. Are you a Redskin? If you have to ask yourself what does that mean, then you are not! Redskins are a family, community, and friendship for life. Take 28, Green, for example, of the United Way :), 20 years, one team. If you have another favorite team then you are not a Redskin.

Secondly, being part of our family is a priviledge. Just in case you did not realize Brunell's record last week % wise barely past Sammy's % ratio at 88%, barely....

Do not dress in our colors unless you are in for the eternal haul.

Re: Family

Does being a member of the family come with some privileges? Can I borrow money from one of the more wealthy family members?

It's just football man...entertainment and a hell of a way to kill time.

Re: Family

The problem with this analogy is that (much like Chris Cooley) I have some very impure thoughts about some of my family members (wait, Cooley did more than just think about it).

Kill time? You need a Psych, if uhh....anyhow you missed the community part of it, we do not borrow, we share. Get off your lazy bum and go to work if you are in need to borrow. You missed the entire point, being a Redskin means much more than football. For example: Darrell Green. 20 years + dedication to the United Way. An ole' Skin holds the key to entering Skinsland. Vince Lombardi, if you ever heard of him. "Entertainment", is for the dallas cowboys and san fran 9er's. I hope you don't wake up in the parking lot in Landover sunday.

"Entertainment" wtf and stf

I'm not here to argue with you... you're buying this whole "we are one family" thing but I'm gonna tell you the truth. The cold truth... and that is that we aren't really family, we are consumers who like consuming Redskin football every weekend. We spend our hard earned dollars to be entertained whether at FedEx field or the sports bar next door. We watch because we want to be be Entertained, both in the good times and the bad times. To have bragging rights over fans of others teams. Some of us to make money by wagering on them.

Every time you watch the Redskins you better believe Mr. Snyder's accountants are counting the dough. The Redskins are what they are, a sports team that's in the Entertainment business.

I hate it when people use words like family, love, friend, etc loosely. It diminish the real value of the words. We have something common but that doesn't make us family. And if all we have in common is the Redskins you are at best an acquaintance.

You are outrageous! Have you ever hugged your Mother, Brother, Father, Sister, wife or girlfriend with elation when the Skins score? How about somebody who has had you over to their house as a guest? If you did not hit the roof last year when Brunell hit Moss, twice, yes twice....if you did not go kiss your dog too, then you have alot to learn. You are not yet part of the family. You are young, you will learn.

Kiss your dog??? I gotta side with Saden1 here. I like his posts, he seems like a pretty cool guy. And maybe one day I'll get to meet him and we'll grab a drink and talk Redskins. But I don't think we have some unbreakable bond because we both cheer when the Redskins win.

If i needed help, a majority of skins fans (that i don't know) would turn me down or let me know it's not their problem.

so i don't really see how that's family-like.

What do you do when the Skins lose? Nobody in the bar likes you anyway, and almost all are happy to see the Skins lose. You have never gone home and given your dog a hug? Primarily because your dog does not know one thing about football but can sense all of your physiology. By the way I've made some life long; according to you: "friends", "love"d ones just by being a Redskin. Hopefully some day you will get it, or Lord help us and deliver you eternally to dallas.

hmm, so if one doesn't agree with you wholeheartly for some vague and vacuous reason, they must be a cowboy fan?

Sounds like something only a cowboy fan could dream up. see how that just worked? lame.

Re: Family

cant buy into the whole family thing, but can defintiley buy into skins fans everywhere show their respect for one another.... im up here in morgantown wv (steeler nation for all that probably dont know) and ive got skins paraphanelia on my truck all over the place, and ill always get a HAIL! or something to that extent when driving on campus, skins fans are amazinhg fans for the most part (true skins fans, no fairweathers) there is nothing undeniable about that, family no... people who understand your love for the same team yes, ive been invtied by complete strangers to watch skins games with them because you cant beat a bunch of skins fans watchin the game together... well the thing is basically look, its 4 in the morning, im drunk, am i making sense? maybe? but hey we have some of the best fans in the nfl and thats all im trying to say, i dont buy into the skins family deal but yeah we do have some kick ass freakin fans

Re: Family

we all share a common bond, and for the most part its hard to find a skins fan thats an asshole. we are generally good people.. the family thing? well.....

Re: Family

I guess I digress....hmm how'd you like that. Family is to me someone who loves the good times, maybe ask you a question or two in the bad times, and will be there when you need them. I've lost a family member to murder, and I'll say this God Bless the Phoenix Redskin "FAMILY" because they have been there with and for me.Oh wait did you miss that. . . in case your are on the short bus that is period to you. period. . . .

Re: Family

hmm... you can't stand to have people disagree with you?

cause every opinion here that disagrees with yours is rebutted with insults instead of contrary evidence.

then again, maybe you're just a short bus riding dallas fan :P

can you see how lame that is? that seems to be your prefered method of going about a discussion here, but for talking about love and respect, you seem to show very very little. I'd hope you'd treat your "family" better than that.

Re: Family

Yeah, I don't feel like everyone who's involved with the skins is my family, but the Skins are a big part of my personal family, and I DO get emotional during games... It can make or break my day if we win or lose, and yeah, when we came back to beat dallas, I teared up a bit...

But if the topic in question is, "do you feel every redskin fan is family to you..." the answer would be No. I saw this one guy at the gas station with skins gear on and he stunk and he had no teeth. That guy is not in my family!

Also, katie holmes was at our game and I would completely bone her silly... am I incestuous?

You know what... screw you for calling me some backwoods west virginia inbred yokel who bones his hot redskin famlily cousin in the back of a 1992 dodge caravan at my uncles house and we dont talk about it anymore!

I'm not sure I'd call us a family. I think of us more as a community. We support each other when the need arises. After all, there were hundreds, if not thousands of fans who rallied together to help Chief Zee when he became ill.

When it comes down to it, my wife and kid come before the Skins - that's family. Saden1 is right that the Skins are entertainment that we are all passionate about. There is a huge difference between the two.

Visit FedEx Field on game day. Wait an hour or so, while giving some of the Redskins fan's time to consume a few drink's.
Next, add aggression and a few tempers, Brunell throwing an interception, the opposing team scoring a touchdown, and you'll have a Jerry Springer/Redskins Family.
I'll never grasp why people spend countless dollars on tickets to end up getting drunk and wanting to fight fellow fans.
