2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Well comically Shawn Springs (jokingly) and LB coach Dale Lindsey not so jokingly stated Lavar didn't know anything or the Defense when he was here. Don't know if that is good or bad calling him out this week, but funny as hell that the Skins who usually don't joke or call players out, called out Lavar. Saw this on Comcast sports Nite during interviews.

Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
As much as he runs off at the mouth and whines about the skins now, he has it coming... I think our guys should answer him on the field, but I understand and actually like them defending our team to the media, too.
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
thats funny, I hope I get to see a clip of Springs calling him out
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
lavars memory span isnt long enough to remember he even played here

Ouch, check this out
Redskins assistant Saunders 'not happy' with Portis late rest - baltimoresun.com
Cornerback Shawn Springs and linebackers coach Dale Lindsey delivered big-time zingers at former Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, who now plays for the New York Giants. Asked if Arrington will help the Giants with his knowledge of the Redskins' defense when the teams play Sunday, Springs replied: "I don't think LaVar knew all of our defense when he was here." Lindsey's answer was similar: "He didn't know anything when he was here. What makes you think he'll know something up there?"
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
I can't quote exactly what LaVar said on "Inside NFL", but he said that he's happy to be a Giant because the owner and the coaches treat him right. He also stated that Redskins have no defensive scheme. Any respect I had of LaVar Arrington completely disappeared after seeing that interview.
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Good riddance to LaVar. Really I'm not one to wish ill on former players but he needs to just shut up once and for all and play.
I'm more interested in the main part of the article, the part about Saunders not being happy that CP took himself out of the game |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
yeah, not sure whats up with portis benching himself, but if Gibbs trusts him, its hard not to. I don't think Clinton runs the team or anything, but I also would like the guys making the game plans have some kind of Veto-power on him pulling himself... especially like Saunders says, tied with the clock winding in the fourth quarter...
You always hear how the great players want the ball when the game is on the line, and having him sit out because he was tired is not a good sign when he was rotated in and out of the lineup pretty regularly... Then again, he may be hurt worse than we think (probably the case) and no one is trying to harp on it and draw attention to it to protect him. Thats my opinion... |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
I don't think it's necessary to insult Lavar. They should leave that to us. He is capable of making a big play now and then so why take a chance with bulletin board stuff? It's not like his guys (excepting Marcus) have been setting the world on fire this year.
Especially a coach. He needs to follow Gibbs' example. Gibbs's comments on the subject reveal a lot about his character and why he is so successful. "What could I have done differently"? The difference is that Gibbs is concentrated on the now and the game, and Lindsey is still hung up on some old personality conflict from last year. Get your now players to play better, now, Bruce. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Sounds like CP has been able to take himself out since he got here.
Saunders needs to recognize who runs the show here. CP all the way. ;) |

Perhaps by adding some fuel to the fire they're almost daring him to try to make the big play and take himself away from his normal defensive assignments. |

When I see articles like that, I think, "Boy, two wins and they're up on their high horse blabbing to what the, Baltimore paper?" I have a very nervous feeling about this game and they're definitley pouring fuel on THAT fire. Saunders should deal with that in the meetings and then zip it. Lindsey should just zip it. |

He's scouted most of our draft picks and free agent acquisitions... lol.... |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Good example of the difference between being a HEAD coach and being a GOOD HEAD coach. Gibbs trusts his guys and realizes how to manage them to maximize their production. Saunders and Williams need to learn from that. Seems to me that Williams is soaking it up and Saunders still thinks his sh*t don't stink so he doesn't need to learn anything.

Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
CP's done well enough to deserve the benefit of the doubt. on sanatana's first run, he blocked THREE different people (kept a DE off brunell, then ran down field for two more blocks for moss). You can't doubt that he's going at 100%, and he was catching up on moss EASILY on that play, so it's not like you can't see why he might get tired playing like that.
I see saunders point that portis can get you that extra yard that betts can't, and that you call different plays (less outside runs and more RB checkdown passes) with betts in, but really, you should NEVER call out for star after he he gives you that kind of game. This should have been kept in house. Boo on saunders. gibbs would never call out his guys like that. even when portis threw him under the bus he refused to call him out publicly. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Yeah, Portis spent his first two years here pounding the gut and power.
I don't think there should be any question that he would know what's best for his play at this point. What he said was very true, and someone just said it about Lavar, you get too pumped up trying to make the big play and you make a big frigging mistep. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
It does sound a little diva-ish, though
It does sound a little diva-ish, though
In most cases you're probably right, but in Portis' case, given the frequent displays of the toughness he displays in blocking, I wouldn't question it. In a Parcells type world, you could see that egalitarian approach, where Portis "the player" would be subject to the same rules as all other players and would lose favor with the head coach for sitting out a play - but that's a different style of player management. Gibbs is different from Parcells. Gibbs knows what Clinton can and can't do, and is happy to defer to him. Although, let me play devil's advocate and say the following: How many times in Gibbs 2.0 have you seen us sweat out the endgame because we weren't able to pick up a first down and run out the clock? Too frequent in my opinion. Given that our D is suspect at the moment, Portis should ideally not be taking plays off. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
portis doesns't take plays off and ends up playing like that first tampa game, averaging 1.2ypc when trying to run out the clock... that's really not a better solution.
he' done enough to earn trust, and he's still putting up stats. i'll take 10 years of this portis vs 5 of the other. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
My only problem is that Springs doesn't have to play the G-men on Sunday so why is he giving them ammunition? Especially to a guy who can change a game when he decides to show up once or twice a year.

Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
If the Giants are going to deploy a gameplan around Lavars behest, I will bet everything I own and can borrow on a parlay with the Skins and the over.

I saw they same interview. the part about no scheme is funny. I think that only pretains to him...he played with no discipline. I cant wait to see Mike Sellers lay a block on Lavar. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
LOL no scheme
Well I guess it's true to him. When you don't know the scheme, it's hard to say what it is. That no scheme 'D' sure has worked wonders for Gregg Williams. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
the only thing i find more annoying than TO whining is lavar whining. at least TO can back it up.
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
i cant believe Dale Lindsey took a shot at Lavar. i get the feeling everyone that is on the redskins are all glad he is gone. and thatguy, what has Lavar done the last 2+ seasons? anything, but be injured and run his mouth? by the end of next season, Lavar will be out of the nfl for good.

if you're asking for me to provide proof, i don't know why. i've already agreed that he's a very average linebacker since that injury, but no less whiny. I really don't think he merits nearly as much post count as he's consumed. I mean, it's not like we're devoting 300 posts to carlos emmons or even pierce (who's a much better player at this point). |

Seriously, I thought everyone was over LaVar being gone. Who cares what he has to say? |

They had publicized shouting matches in the locker room after practices last year. I think Lindsey is the main reason LA is now gone. He didn't like him and couldn't get him to play the scheme and LA got pissy and then..and then... blah blah. |

Yeah, I remember reading some things about Lindsey and LaVar getting personal during some arguments duing games last season. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
you think they hate each other? watch dale lindsesy's video on redskins.com, or read his comments on lavar right after his release. I think hate might be an understatement.

Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
joe knows cp and al needs to understand cp.....after all he is our franchise player right..wwe don,t need to add any fuel to the fire cause it,s hot enough as it is...this is a be careful game in my eyes...
what needs to be said should stay behind closed doors.. |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
Saunders needs to realize that he is just a coordinator not the head coach..
|
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
saunders wants to make sure that everyone knows that he's not responsible for any failures, but he'll gladly tell you who is.
maybe that's why he didn't get a real job when they were available. |

If Williams and Saunders are both still here when Gibbs re-retires (take your time Joe), it could be a steel-cage match for the top job. Who would you guys go with? I vote Williams. Anybody for Saunders? |

I still want Russ Grimm |
Re: 2 ex skins on the Giants D equal advantage??
i'm not voting saunders. i mean, i don't doubt the guys ability to run an offense, but being a head coach is about leadership above all else, and williams has that, saunder's doesn't (in fact, he seems to have the social intelligence of an average 8th grade nerd). grow a pair, take the blame, ain't that hard. "We didn't execute as well as i thought we should have, it's my fault, we'll get it fixed." if he just said that and let his work talk for him, he could have been a head coach 5 years ago.
I mean, even though it looks like he'll put together a top 5 offense here, if he left tomorrow, i wouldn't really care. and i don't like beating up on guys that win, but spinlessness is NOT a desireable trait. |
