What would you trade for secondary help?
I was watching NFL Replay of the Skins-Jags and saw Duckett on the sidelines. I don't know how the contract stuff would work, but my question is this:
Would you trade Duckett for Ryan Clark? Our secondary needs help, but we need someone that already knows the system or a trade is pointless. The Steelers need Duckett. We need help in the secondary. The Steelers would be getting the better deal, but it still may be a deal that would work for us. Thoughts? |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
TJ Duckett..
|
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Oh, and as for "thoughts".. I do think Williamns can get Wright and Rogers to where we need to be for the playoffs IF things go in our favor these next few games. We just need time, and during that time we needs Ws!!!!!!

Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
TJ Duckett definately...for a CB. I am not sure that Springs is going to play at all this season. I would like to trade for a proven corner. I think that would be one of the easiest position to come into a learn. More than a safety position. safeties make a lot of the calls on D.

Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
i would make that trade in a heartbeat. i love Ryan Clark and his aggressiveness. plus, he worked well with Sean Taylor. the only problem still would be preilou's injury. subbed for Clark alot in obvious passing situations

I would trade all your children...I'll toss in mine when I have them. For now though I implore you to donate your children to "The Cause."

haha.... I have 6 to donate. I keep trying, but no takers.... |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
We have everything we need for a run to the super bowl, unless this Springs issue was a sports hernia which I heard someone on WP ask, but if we needed a CB I would trade TJ b/c Betts is on par with Portis w/ Portis active, and move Patten also in a deal.
This train is bound for glory |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
lefty.

Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
I'll never understand why some people are so in love with Ryan Clark.
|
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Why woulI just sign Ahmad Carroll if I desperately needed secondary help? As of one week ago, he was a nickel CB for Green Bay. He had, by all accounts, a rotten second half of football against Philadelphia - but he wasn't where he was for nothing.
He'll likely get a 1 year prorated minimum salary deal this year from someone. I think our coaching staff should examine the tape on him very closely. |

I'm not in love with Clark, but I think that he worked well in the defense. Really the most important thing is that he already knows the defense and has good chemistry with Sean Taylor. I like Duckett, but I'm sure if Clark was on the team he would be cracking the active roster on game day. If Prioleau had not gotten hurt, this discussion would not be happening. |
BEWARE THE MIDDLE.......................SEAN TAYLOR IS LURKING!!!
All I know is they'd better get somebody! I don't think I can take another game where our corners get exposed!!! |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Hess.
j/k Hess...I'd really trade you and That Guy. Couldn't possibly separate you all. I all seriousness I think at this point Pitt wouldn't trade Clark with no other option. In a perfect world I think we all agree so far Clark would be a better fit. But in the immortal words of JG. "I don't think the whole book is written on him yet." In this case I am referring to Arch. |

32 teams ;) and they pass the first week cause he's on waivers (anyone that picks him up gets to pay his current contract). after he's off waivers, it's open season and he can sign for vet min. clark would help uss more than duckett right now. duckett won't get us a good cb though, and that's something we really need. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Uhm, it is week 5 people. You don't just go down to Walmart and pick up a quality CB and insert him into the lineup -- no matter the price.
Adapting to the GW defense is not an instant process for anyone. League rules not withstanding, the deadline for adding personnel to improve the defense has long since passed. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
San Fran will trade walt harris to us if we take taylor jacobs back.
|
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
how is taylor jacobs doing out there?
you guys still think I'm crazy for suggesting #28 to sign on for a few games? Bet the outcome vs Dallas woulda been different... GO REDSKINS!!! |

yes, you're still crazy.

CBs could also probably learn the defense in time for the end of the season and the playoffs. Not in time to help us replace Springs, but in time to help us win the Super Bowl. |

I would trade Duckett for Ryan Clark.

He was on the decline when he retired. I really don't think he would have much to offer at this point, and unless he can play OL I don't think he would have changed anything against Dallas. |

I think the CBs we have now may learn the system by the playoffs. They started looking better against Houston. I think that each week we should see fewer big plays and more 3 and outs. Getting a new corner may be a priority next year, but the guys we have now will probably need to do the job for this year. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
I'm still willing to give guys like Rumph and Wright more time to get up to speed. Plus Rogers is still developing.

Trade talk is easy, but often time difficult to pull off in the league. TJ is a free agent at the end of this season, any trade involving him or Betts (who incidently is in the same situation) would require more than just a notion. We had the opportunity to retain Clark before he departed and chose to spend considerably more to upgrade the position, We could have kept him for much less than we're paying Arch. Further, I think that with a little more time, the players we have here will pan out, we're going through a few growing pains now because we have three new starters working in the defense and there's a process they have to go through to get better. I believe they will. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Not really sure why we traded for TJ Duckett, espicially since you don't need a day 1 draft pick to get a guy of that quality at RB. Coulda had a lineman with that choice.
With that said, I doubt we will trade Duckett, and I expect him to get more involved in the offense as we go along. He's a pretty damn good 3rd RB. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Rich Tandler at the Warpath Insider puts our current Pearl Harbor Crew in perspective:
Scout.com: Pearl Harbor Crew II Certainly if our guys don't get it together they will derail our Super Bowl championship aspirations. I remember that Bobby Beathard made a trade in 1983 to get cornerback Anthony Washington from the Steelers, I think during the season. He wasn't able to stem the tide agains the Raiders in the Super Bowl, however. Hopefully Springs gets back here healthy enough to make a difference. Hopefully, the secondary people will come around as they learn a system so complicated that many current players don't fully understand it according to Springs (probably referring to his comrades in the defensive backfield). I don't think you can trade TJ Duckett after all we gave up for him - he is insurance against a Portis injury, and once Duckett learns the system he will be a force in our offense and a confounding change of pace from Portis and Betts for defenses. |

It takes too long to get up to speed, and the good players just aren't going to be available, most likely (Clark, for instance). GW and co. can make the guys we have play better, and that's our best hope right now. Remember, no one had heard of Clark before GW got him. Interestingly, the loss of Preileau (sp) hurt more than I thought it would. We have no option but to leave AA out in passing downs and that hurts. But give it some time. And I do think SS will be back in action this year--that will help everything back there. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
The Steelers are not going to trade clark to us . Besides , no way Dan and Vinny make that trade , then bench the highest paid safety in football ; and admit that they f'd up . Maybe trade Duckett for a corner , but I would not bet on a team trading a good cover corner now . I just hope if our db's improve soon ! And if we still have problems covering throughout the season , someone tell Vinny ,,, NOT to go out and bring in some f/a bum of a corner and give him a 10 million dollar signing bonus :) !

Sheriff, I usually agree with you and have much respect for what you do around here. But I've got to disagree with your analysis on a few points.... 1. In the GW defense, the CB is required to do much more than go man up. In addition, any CB who falls into the category of being a solid cover corner is going to be impossible to purchase. 2. By time we get to the SB or playoffs, the CBs we have now will be much more up to speed than they were up to this point. They are not lacking in athletic ability. 3. The probability (but by no means certainty) is that by time we end up in the second half of the season, SS will be back on the field. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
For secondary help I would trade Derek Smith, Jeff Ulbrich, Kwame Harris, Taylor Jacobs, Sammy Davis and Chris Hetherington. Garbage...

Derek Smith? Is he that bad? It's amazing he stuck around this long. I know one thing for sure, we never take back what we tossed. That would make us Indian givers. |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
id trade betts cuase he shows so much promise we could possible get a better corner, i kno thats horrible becuase betts is my man.
Besides i think our secoundary is looking better and the situation isnt as dire as you guys make it seem |
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
sammy davis? didnt he die a couple of years ago?
|
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
What needs to happen is S. Springs needs to get back on the field soon before this season is lost. I like Rumph more than Wright and the other guy we have playing corner. However Rogers has been a bit of a disapointment this year. Arch has been playing better here of late but, he still has a ways to go. As of now for what we payed for this guy we have not gotten a good return. The contract that this guy signed really scares me when S. Taylors contract is due for negotiation. Taylor is a guy we need back there handling buisness. But, all in all I think that the players we have back in the secondary will be fine. Once Springs comes back, it should give the defense a lift similar to when Portis came back. No more loses from here on out.

Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
Where is darrel green,he,s gotta be better than wright.
|
Re: What would you trade for secondary help?
absolutely, been saying that the skins have rolled the dice on the secondary and the o line, the o line is fine a long as none get hurt but the secondary without springs is naked and blind. these guys are playing scared,we need another cb. but whom could we trade for ? it can't be just another scrub, we've gotten those.how many years do you guys think springs has left ? not many, time to make a move to get us a real good corner.
