|
Re: defense

|
Re: defense
Henry with a career day, how freaking embarrassing. They shredded our D today. You can't win with a pathetic effort like that.
|
Re: defense
Travis "smoke a fat one" Henry! Oh yeah, great defense! Can somebody tell me why Carlos Rodgers Plays corner 8 yds. off the ball? HAIL from Nashville!
|
Re: defense
We Can't blitz, can't cover, can't stop the run,and we can't tackle. Wow. HAIL from Nashville!
|
Re: defense
totally agree with everybody this defense used 2 b good but everyone is always out of posistion no hands or they wait and try 2 make a big hit or pick (#21) and get caught no real pressure as usual on the qb no gang tackling like last year the secondary sux
|
Re: defense
This should be the thread with the most action. It was the defense's fault we lost the game today. Not Mark Brunell's. While Mark Brunell didn't have a decent game like we expected him to, with the points we put up on Tennessee's d we should've won the game. But the defense let us down again this season.
|
Re: defense
Mooby, I have to disagree. When the D stopped the Titans Brunell came out and went 3 and out. That puts a tired and clueless D back out there. Every possession should have had points on it for us.
It's on Brunell. |
Re: defense
Well look at it this way. The D stopped the Titans late in the game, but if we had had shut down Young and Henry like we should've, and not let them put points on the board we wouldn't have had to rely on M.B. to win the game for us. And lets face it, Brunell doesn't have what it takes to lead us to wins when we need to rely on him anymore. I mean, when there's like 5 minutes left on the clock and we're down by 3, that's the only time the offense really tries to open it up. Through the first 55 minutes they're content to just run the ball and throw screens.

It's on Brunell.
How can you say that when the D was shredded all day by Henry and a rookie QB?? The game should have never been that close. You can't give up 178 yards rushing to a back and then throw the blame at your QB for not bailing out the pathetic effort by the defense. |
Re: defense
Today had a lot to do with the defense. However, they've looked bad all year long. News Flash: They're gonna be bad this year. So, you need to plan on putting points on the board. And checking down on 3rd and longs isn't the way to do that.
|
Re: defense
With the way our D has been playin all year, the best D is a Good O. We know damn well going into games that the D can't do it. 700 page playbook? RIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT!

I recall Henry having another career day against us a few years back: ESPN.com - NFL - Recap |
Re: defense
Henry owns us. Pathetic.

Re: defense
Anyone else think some of the defensive players are mailing it in? Holdman? Daniels? Wynn? Rogers? Archuletta?
Anyone else think some of the defensive players are mailing it in? Holdman? Daniels? Wynn? Rogers? Archuletta?
Holdman just doesn't have the talent to be a consistent playmaker as a weakside LB. Daniels definitely gives max effort and was our best D lineman on the field today. Wynn is seriously overpaid in my estimation. Rogers is looking lost - I recommend making him nickel back when Springs comes back to build back his confidence. Archuletta is the most overpaid safety in the history of the league, but don't blame him - Gibbs and the Danny gave him millions more than the next closest suitor (Chicago) offered. He gives max effort, but would have trouble covering his own shadow. The bigger problem is the philosophy of ignoring the draft and building through high priced free agency. There's no cap space to have effective depth, and that's coming home to roost. |
Re: defense
You aint bullshitin' SouperMeister! We have got to change our philosphy on building a winning team. This FA shit Aint workin'. HAIL from Nashville!
|
Re: defense
Archuleta looks worse and worse every game. Whether it's making poor half assed attempts at tackles, or getting burned on the deep ball, we really made a bad move there. I think we should cut our losses with him at the end of the season, because teams are picking on him like crazy and he's not stopping them.
|
Re: defense
Archuleta????? How about Carlos Rogers? That guy is one of the worst cover corners in football right now. He is consistently beaten every game and when something is within his grasp he can't catch it. Horrible....and yes he was a draft pick and that didn't work either!!!!
Frustrating, and I am just glad I am not the one that has to try and fix this HUGE mess. It's gonna get worse before it gets better. |
Henry with a career day, how freaking embarrassing. They shredded our D today. You can't win with a pathetic effort like that.
Matty, I just got home from the game and the best thing about this game was the weather. Watching Travis Henry run today reminded me of the last time we saw him he was with Buffalo, and he did the same thing to us. We really had a tough time with him today. On the other hand, there are stretches in games where this offense just kills the defense (as bad as it is) they don't make enough plays on a consistent basis to rest the defense. The offense should protect the defense, but this team does not do that, maybe it helps explain why the defense plays so uninspired. |
Re: defense
Rogers has no ball awareness whatsoever right now. Even when his coverage is tight, he never gets his head around in time to make a play on the ball. He still needs alot of work.
|
Re: defense
Griffin being out today hurt bad. Henry ran between the tackles and had too many 8 yard runs on 1st down. Holdman got used and Marshall rarely met Henry at the hole. Amazing how far this defense has fallen off in three years. From top 5 to top 10 to ???(bottom 10?5?)
|
Re: defense
Williams' blitzes get picked up like a slutty college chick. I've never seen so many white jerseys go crashing in on a blitz only to not see a single one emerge on the other side of the line.
The rest of the NFL has us figured out, plain and simple. |
Re: defense
Ooh, and Vince Young got his first career win against us. That's a nice honor to have.
And a winless team got their first win of the season too. It's so nice to help other people out. |

Yep. Not many have mentioned that. Griffin and Salave'a were out today. If anyone still thinks they hit gold with Montgomery and Golston, they need their heads examined. But SouperMeister said it best -- this is what you get when the front office ignores the defensive line year after year. Throwing together other teams' rejects, has-beens, and a few high priced free agents every two or three years gets you what you saw today. They seem totally content with signing the Brandon Nobles, the Renaldo Wynns, the Philip Daniels -- eventually, the one guy they were right about, Cornelius Griffin, was going to need help. Can't stop the run, can't pressure the quarterback, and the secondary can't cover anyone. This was bound to happen. |
Re: defense
yeah I'm extremely disappointed with our defense. I have no Idea how we got so fucking bad. I just don't get it, but if GW wants a real shot at running our team... or any other team at the end of his tenure he has to right the ship. I dont give afuck if all of our starters go down, you have to STOP THE RUN. We cannot do that we will never win.
Once TN had the ball with 4 mins, I knew it was over, because they had all of the time and can control us... we held them to a field goal, and I thought we had a shot, but you know the rest. I'm anxious to see if Gibbs even addresses the QB situation this week, or if he crawfishes... He was quick to Jerk Ramsey, for not making good decisions, but if all of the TN defenders had stick-um on their hands today they would've had 8 picks. No lie... We were lucky it was as close as it was. |
Re: defense
Our defense is an embarassment. I would trade Carter and Archuletta for a bag of chips right now.
I can't believe that a GW defense looks this bad. Guess what, now we get the Colts! |
Re: defense
Maybe THAT'S the problem.

Re: defense
Holdman tackles like Rogers covers, if Mcintosh can't beat Holdman out at this point then what's the point. I have a hard time believing we wouldn't be better with Rocky in there, and if we actually are not we can chalk up another wasted pick.
As for Carlos "the cushion" Rogers I get the feeling he needs to be up on the reciever and press him man to man on the line of scrimmage, the guy is lost when he's left to react after the WR has a head of steam, Rogers is physical enough to handle almost any reciever, personally he looks and hits more like a saftey than a corner but I don't know if he has the instinkts for saftey. Man oh man who's idea was it to get rid of Clark for AA, talk about overpaying for a downgrade? As for Carter I hate to say it but his pass rushing skills remind me an awful lot of Arringtons, if someone is in front of him he can't get around him, no pass rushing moves to speak of. |
Re: defense
I knew we were in trouble when they said Griff and big Joe were both out. Golston and Montgomery have looked promising, but two rookies starting inside is a big concern no matter who they are. The Titans knew this and attacked accordingly. Meanwhile we got all cute with these WR handoffs instead of just pouding the ball like they did to us.
|
Re: defense
our defense is broken at every level.
our Dline was not improved one bit by getting Carter, even at 'full strength'. that's even considering i think Golston could actually be an upgrade to Salave'a. Warrick is smart, seems to be wherever the play is, he's just not tackling well. the whole LB corps. has missed critical tackles lately. the secondary? where do i start? while it was WRONG to stay so dependent on a 31 yr. corner, it was also wrong to bring in 3 DBs who hadn't developed any chemistry in what was once an established defense. people still question Ryan Clark, but i think its clear how he complemented ST now. |
Re: defense
I'm actually starting to think differently about Andre Carter. I've seen his number around the QB quite a bit lately and in the last 3 games has had 2 sacks and a number of QB pressures. I don't think the jury has returned the verdict on him just yet.
|
Re: defense
Carter's not half bad, but AA is a fucking chump, and I think we all knew that coming into this season, we just didnt wanna believe it. Our secondary is fucking swiss cheese, period.

I completely agree with you. I know this is cheesy, but you just reminded me of a game of Madden I was playing the other day. I was playing a team with a crappy D (make Tenn, but I can't remember) and I was trying to get all fancy with the play calls and I kept turning it over or having to settle for long passes on 3rd down. Finally I decided enough was enough and I started using the I formation and pounded the ball inside. Eventually the PA fakes opened back up and it was back to running up the score like normal. So I got Ozzie his brandy glass filled with brown M&Ms and he went on stage and had a great show. |
