Trent Green return to washington?

i heard today on pti that even though trent green is going to be heathy soon, they are going to stick with huard. now if that is true i don't think that trent will like that and will demand a trade after the season or will be released. being that trent was with saunders for a couple of years, do you think we will make a move for him?

Do you think we'll ever have an opportunity to move foreward, establish a long term solution for our QB situation which has been absent for so long, if we continue to committ our resources to old, short term fixes with no shelf life? Granted Trent Green knows the offense and is famaliar with AL Saunders, but this guy's best years are behind him, and he would just be a short term fix at best. I would say pass based on our current QB situation, but with our current FO and the way they do business, anything's possible.

i dont want him. if saunders wants him then we will probably get him though

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

I was wondering about this same thing yesterday. But, as much as I like him, we need to focus on Campbell as our starter in 2007. We already have someone who knows the system in Todd Collins, and Collins is younger than Green. Heck, even Brunell is younger than Green.

On another note, this could be the last season in the NFL for a lot of QBs who have very good to great careers-Bledsoe, Brunell, Favre, Green

No thanks...he will be 37 years old next year.

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

trent and brunell are the same age, no need to trade for green. we need to move forward not keep getting older qbs

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

No no no no no!!! Why would we want to get OLDER at the most important position on the field? There is one direction we need to go at QB for the next 2 years and that is Jason Campbell. Put him in, give him 18-24 games to see what we have and only then should we look elsewhere if it's clear he can't do the job.

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

he's better than brunell, but it'd be another band aid for a bullet hole :/.

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

That is just Kornheiser and Wilbon running off at the mouth. It's not going to happen. KC isn't stupid. They are not going to just let him walk away for nothing. You don't give invest 2 #1 picks on a guy and not play him. Jason Campbell is the future. However I would love to see Trent Green come in as a back up. Just in case.

skinsguy 11-08-2006 11:25 PM

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

Now if this was a couple seasons ago, and we had a choice between Green or Brunell, I would have definitely said go with Green. I would probably take Green as a backup to JC, but I agree with everybody else, Jason is our future and we want our future looking bright and young!

GTripp0012 11-09-2006 03:12 AM

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

Campbells going to be the QB, but you'd just be getting another Brunell. Cheaper, maybe? Not the way we pay guys.

if campbell doesnt start next season, then he cant play in this league. just a thought

According to the guys on Fox (Jimmy Johnson & Howie Long) he must not be able to play now. The reasoning is if you give up that much for a player, he's #3 on the depth chart and Brunell isn't getting the job done consistently and he STILL can't sniff any game action then he must not be NFL material. Hate to agree but it's hard to argue with that logic.

Green as a backup - sure.

As a starter? Not gonna happen.

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

Stop with the "plans" to screw up our man, Jason Campbell.

Trent Green WOULD be coming back to start for KC if the team wasn't still winning without him. Herm Edwards said he's still the #1 QB but he doesn't want to mess with the good momemtum they've been having. Next year, if Green doesn't retire, he'll be the #1 for KC again. He'll come back this year if Huard comes back to Earth.

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

I dont want to hear about trent green, byron leftwich or any body else whose name isn't Jason Campbell. If Campbell is not our starting QB next year I will be furious. I dont care what people speculate, the reason Campbell is not on the field is because of Joe Gibbs undying faith in Mark. We gave up too much for Jason to never let him play.

How is that a speculation? Its the truth, Joe Gibbs has come out and said he has the most faith in Mark Brunell

GhettoDogAllStars 11-09-2006 02:06 PM

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

I say no, of course.

Also, I think the reason Campbell hasn't seen the field yet is because Brunell has played well enough to keep his job -- not because Campbell is worthless.

Our problem is defense, not QB.

i can't see green coming back as a starter or a backup.i would think that next year jason campbell will be the first string qb regardless, with brunnel waiting in the wings, and collins 3rd.was damon huard in kc last year with sanders,or did they just sign him this year?

Huard has been with them. He's a free agent this spring. It'd be crazy if he's the one who left

dont count out the idea of the skins going after green ,seems gibbs loves having a fossil at quarterback.it would be nice to see someone who could throw more than 15 or 20 yards..i'd like to see someone who could air it out, jesus memories of schroeder throwing are even good to me now .:benched:

Oh God no! Please don't bring his old ass to D.C.. We don't know how he will perform after the concussion. Would be a great back up to Campbell though.

That Guy 11-10-2006 03:06 AM

Re: Trent Green return to washington?

there are at least 6-10 teams that'd be able to use him as an immediate starter, so i think the percentages disfavor him coming back in burgundy and gold.

Brunell. I seriously believe he'll be the backup next year. MB kbnows the offense (well better than an outsider and even Trent Green since this is OBVIOUSLY not the same playbook as in KC), he knows the WRs and linemen, Gibbs obviously trusts him and despite what the media and ESPN like to say, he's having a great year this year so he can still play.

He'd be a PERFECT backup for us. Without playing 16 games, his body will be in good condition if he ever has to fill in for Campbell.

He'd have to restructure his contract right? I mean my understanding is that fiscally the best option is to release him.

I could see Brunell retiring rather than accepting a backup role.

I agree, and I also think his decision to retire, or not, will depend on how the team finishes the season, coupled with the their willingness to bring him back at 6.6 mil. If he's on the team, he will have to restructure regardless of whether he's the starter or backup. I just can't imagine him at 37 being willing to go into the season as the backup QB. He will count only 1.5 mil. in DC if he's released after June 1st, that's a sizeable saving in the event he is released.
