How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I've heard and read many different places that JC might not be completely ready to step in. Remember what happened with Ramsey? He was shoved in there and had NO chance. He lost all his confindence and has been damaged goods ev er since. My question to the board is, How will you feel if Todd Collins is named the starter instead of JC?

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I'm not sold on the whole damaged goods thing. He looked pretty solid in that bears game before he got yanked.

Anyhow, at this point Ill try anyone but Mark Brunell. I find it a bit silly not to have the future taking snaps. Some QBs just need to get their feet in the fire to understand the game. We need to evaluate Campbell, we're out of the playoffs, and Mark Brunell probably wont be back due to salary cap restrictions (and the constant vandalism of his house...)

If Collins starts, fire the whole damn coaching staff!

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

i'd feel like Campbell (and his draft choice to trade up for him) were complete losses, because Gibbs has no faith in him after two years in camp. to put in another washedup QB only this time, a career backup, ahead of Campbell would basically confirm it.

and i totally don't get the reasoning at all for not putting in a fresh QB when the team "is doing bad". when the hell do you put him in? when they are doing well?? ask Parcells when a good time to change a struggling veteran QB is - may even be at the HALF when you are trying to WIN a game, gasp. you forge steel from a fire.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

On Redskin lunch, larry is saying it will be JC. Bram is predicting Todd.
By the way, the job was Ramsey's to lose...............he did, and in NY as well. If he is that fragile psychologically, he can't be in the NFL.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I don't even care at this point. I'll take anyone over Brunell. Like I said in another thread, if you can at least manage the game, you already are Brunell's equal.

sorry about that, and it wasn't vandalism, it was a kidnap attempt. he just wasn't there. i probably should've checked Gibb's house.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I would be thoroughly disappointed in our coaching staff for not making a first round draft pick ready to start after a year and a half. He's been around the team long enough that he should be ready now or he'll never be. I mea, who's to say sitting for 2 whole years on a floundering team won't destroy his confidence more than taking his lumps.
I would also lose faith in the coaching staff because I would feel like they are too blind to see that neither Brunell nor Collins can be QB of the future for the Redskins.

We seriously need to know ASAP if Campbell can be the QB that we all hope he is, because we can't waste another year trying to teach some free agent Saunder's damn system.

So to sum up, I'd be really pissed if it were collins.

I agree 100% that the Skins need to try out their future QB and see if he will be the future. They need to find out what the kid has. I just posted the question because its not out of the realm of possibilities.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I agree, you need to find out what kind of player he is and if he can handle the heat and show improvement over the next 7 weeks. If he can't, you have to make a move or try something else in the offseason to fix the QB position.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

Complaining about Collins being the starter will commence at the start of the 2nd Quarter.

skinsguy 11-13-2006 01:11 PM

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a QB change that it would be Todd Collins. I'd rather see Jason Campbell in there, but there is apparently a reason why Todd is #2 and Campbell is #3.

Until we lose 8 games, Brunell is the starting QB unless he is otherwise hurt.

Gmanc711 11-13-2006 01:11 PM

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I'm telling you right now, I will freak out of Todd Collins starts at QB for this team. Like I'll need to go to the looney bin to calm down in one of those rubber rooms.

There are two quarterbacks that should be avalible this offseason (Leftwitch and Trent Green) that I would love to see brought in if Campbell can't cut it. So Lets find out NOW how he can do. We have lost the season, it makes no freaking sense not to play him.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

I would love to have Leftwich on our team if Campbell doesn't pan out as a starter.
By the way, the job was Ramsey's to lose...............
Oh, you mean when Ramsey got the whole offseason to prepare as the starter, came into the bears game, and put up as many yards in the first quarter (before getting a minor injury and never seeing the field again) than Brunell did in the following 3 quarters.

Some people are too avid in Ramsey's defense, but some people shit all over this guy who played like a rookie QB when he was a rookie, finally got a chance to start under Gibbs with good solid talent around him, did great for a quarter, and never got to see the field again. If you didn't notice, Pennington was playing damn good QB at the begining of the year. Either way, Im sure he's happy -- he's winning more games as a jet.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

Yup. Collins has no business ever taking a snap if Campbell isn't hurt or brain dead.

I'd agree 100% with wanting leftwitch in here. Green is on the downslope and that would leave us searching again in a couple of years. Leftwitch is a gunslinger and young.

Find out if Campbell will give you what you want now, and take advantage of the possible availablility of some current QBs that can be great choices for your franchise.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

It wouldn't completely surprise me. I still believe that Campbell's debut won't be following a week of everyone knowing that he'll be the starter.

I think Brunell, or maybe Collins, will be the official starter for the game. But everyone within the organization will know that he's only in for a series or two and then Campbell will step right in. This way they keep it under the radar.

So bottom line, my guess is naming Collins the starter would be code for Campbell will play.

How in the hell did Ramsey look "pretty solid" with this stat line:

6 of 11, 105 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, sacked twice, 2 fumbles, 49.4 QB rating.

Yeah, really freaking solid. Solidly bad.

This crap about Ramsey looking good in that game is one of the stupidest arguments ever discussed on any message board.

i can see the benefit of keeping the enormous pressure of JC, by not naming him the starter outright, but...lets get this over with, a spade is a spade, and the redskins are losers this year. no question or doubt about it. given the fact that we are losers, and therefore expected to loser, where is the pressure really coming from? i for one will not expect anything Great from JC this year, i just want to see signs...and progress...at this point, its anyone but brunell

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

Here's my guess: Brunell starts against the Bucs, we win. Everyone gets all happy with the win and forgets that we need a QB change.

I use some very bad language as I see Brunell set up under Center.

you have to agree with MAtty here...in no way are those stats "solid". i would point out, that Ramsey tossed for 105 yards (on 6 completions), thats 27 fewer yards than brunell with 10 less completitons (sounds about right).

how old is Jason Campbell? my friend insists he is 26 years old. if that is the case, he had better get his ass under center sometime this season. no one in the redskins organization really knows if this guy can play in this league. sooner or later we are going to have to find out

And when I say 'Everyone' I don't include myself. I think we should have started Campbell from Game 1.

Brunell will be a truly great mentor, he seems like a super-nice guy but not a starting QB any more. Old warriors don't know when to quit.

I'd feel sick, but I wouldn't be surprised, given that all the decisions have been bad this season. Wilbon's take is right on:

Michael Wilbon: Okay, I'm here and ready to roll. We start, of course, with the Redskins.
They stink.
They don't seem to have any fire. It's hard to identify the team leaders. It's even harder to understand what in the world the coaches are doing. It's a mess. Gibbs sorta acknowledged the game had passed him by when he turned over calling the plays to Al Saunders. And you can't let a kid quarterback just sit on the bench forever, especially not when you've spent No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 picks to get him and your incumbent QB is on his way out. So much stuff makes no sense...like trading for T.J. Duckett and not using him. Like having a big, strong and tough back like Mike Sellers and not using him in goal line situations. Every time I'm around other teams in the NFL, people who work or play for that team come up and ask, "What in the hell are the Redskins doing?" It's unbelievable how curious people are about such a bad team...And it's because Gibbs is the coach and because the Redskins spent so much money (again) ill-advisedly, according to them...What a mess. They were the only sad-sack team in the NFL yesterday...Well, maybe Arizona. At leas the Giants had five starters injured and out. What was the Redskins excuse? They had no fire, played with no apparent purpose, and looked bad in every phase of the game...like they beat Dallas last week and spent the rest of the week thinking they were good. If you matched the Raiders and Redskins tomorrow in a game at a neutral site, I'd take the Raiders. At leasy their defense appears nasty and passionate.

I completely agree with your sense of logic because it makes all the sense in the world. The thing that's so disheartning is that Joe Gibbs obviously dosen't see it that way, and that's disturbing to us as fans. He will be the first one to recognize, and pay respect to the fact that this team has great fans, and a great fan base, but to insult our intelligence by constantly attempting to make us believe Brunell is playing well, and the problems with the offense are not due in part to his ineptitude is just plain misleading. For the life of me, I cannot understand why it's so difficult for Gibbs to just come out and say Brunell is not playing well, and move on in another direction which will benefit the team long term. It's time to see what we have in Jason Campbell, he may not be the answer either. He has his critics already despite the fact we haven't seen very much of him. If he's not the answer, what better time to find out than now?

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?

If the season is lost, what would the point be to play Collins? Wouldn't this be saying that there is no confidence in Jason Campbell, and that game experience for him would not benefit the team? That's what it would tell me. I think Collins only plays if the coaching staff truly believes we still have a chance to make the playoffs...and that's quite a stretch right now.
