10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Archuleta, yes.
Gibbs, no way! SI.com - Photo Gallery - Ten Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
That is a travesty to have Gibbs on a list that includes Randy Moss, Albert Haynesworth and Matt Millen. What a joke.

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
i agree...a shame. they'd have us cann the gibbs while in the same breath, ridicule us for never allowing chemistry to develope (time).

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
That's the ultra-fickle media for you. Your best friend one minute, your worst enemy the next. You would think last years' playoff run would have quieted some of this washed up, the game has passed him by talk.

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
I don't think that Gibbs should be on the same list as some of those guys but I do think that there is a kernel of truth in the sentiment. He has been a stellar coach and superb leader of the team over his distinguished career. However, if you look at things dispassionately then perhaps a move to the front office would be no bad thing. He is an offensive genius who doesn't call the offensive plays and he seems unable to generate any kind of chemsitry within the team. He's not getting any younger and we know that he is the type of guy who lives and breathes the game 24/7. Is he capable of that same intensity now?
Does anyone here really believe that Gibbs is going to win another superbowl with the Redskins? |

archuleta sure.
gibbs? come on! that's crazy talk! |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
If SI thinks Gibbs has "worn out his welcome," they are just plain dumb. While the treads might be a little worn, I don't see a coup led by fans or players to overthrow Gibbs.
They should be citing Parcells as there seem to be a LOT of Dallas fans who question his playcalling and W-L production. I know a few Cowboys fans and virtually all of them say they would have liked to have seen Sean Payton become their HC. |

I agree completely. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
He's basically a front office person right now as it is. As of right now, he seems like a motivator he keeps the troops going. He might have a final say on plays, etc, but I have a feeling Saunders and GW pretty much run the show.

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Gibbs built this franchise, and now he's not welcome?????? That's like saying lumbardi wouldnt be welcome in Green Bay. Media is so moment to moment, hilarious.

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
SI is retarded, they said that tom brady was highly overrated last week

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Only about half of all Head Coaches call plays. A few years back barely any head coaches called plays. That's supposed to be what coordinators do. As fast paced as games move, how can a person be expected to manage the whole game all the while coming up with the next play within 5 seconds. I like the setup.
This season has been a disappointment so far but other factors have contributed heavily. Portis health and Brunell's decline have been the biggest factors. The poor defensive play was unexpected. This is the 2006 NFL though, teams go up and down every year. Look at the Bucs and Panthers, like us good team last year that have struggled this year. I wouldn't be too quick to buy into the Gibbs has failed argument, one year from now they could be calling him a genius again! |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
If you can erase in your mind what Gibbs has done previously for us, and forget he's a 3 time SB champ, then how would you judge and rate him as a coach? I doubt there's one person here who would not be calling for his head on a silver platter!
As far as Gibbs moving into the front office? That scares me considering it seems personel decisions at least when it comes to players is scary. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Do you think that he was the one who picked our defensive busts? Aside from Brunell, he's been on with offensive additions.
|
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Given what happened last year, regardless of if his name is Gibbs or not I wouldn't want him fired at the end of this year. If next year is another disaster then I would have some serious issues.

This article is kinda placing blame on the organization more than Gibbs, but as noted on this thread, he's already a front office guy. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
I hope gibbs comes back next year and calls the offensive plays, with campbell, I think simplicity might be better. Expecially if campbell shows the physical abilities that we are all expecting, then we could let campbell make the big plays on his own, instead of making him adjust to timing routs.

Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
Let Saunders get his system in place. We were told time after time this offseason by Saunders and Todd Collins that it would take serious time to get this offense in place and moving correctly. Give him an offseason to work with Campbell, and hopefully Gibbs will hand the reins over to him a bit more for personel, not letting Portis bench himself, etc.
Do you think that he was the one who picked our defensive busts? Aside from Brunell, he's been on with offensive additions.
What I would say is this, the buck stops with him, but not to totally throw him under the bus, I know from a lot of his statements that Gibbs does listen to his coaches as well as players on personel decisions, now here's the problem, he has to be able to disern whether or not that particular person know's what he's talking about when it comes to talent evaluation. At this point I think we really need to rethink our strategy and utilize the draft big time, but hiring a GM just for the sake of it wont work, we need a tremendous GM [as any team does] which are hard to come by, and I don't see that type of evaluater in our organization, so the question is, WHO? Offensive additions? Yes and no, as you well know I was not and still not a believer in the Portis trade, way to much for a player that we could have gotten the same production or more out of another back, especially a back like Stephen Jackson. I loved the Cooley pick but once again we had to overpay because we had to trade up for lack of picks. He brought in Rabach who is nothing special there was better in the draft. I do like our WR's though unfortunatly thier only as good as the guy throwing them the ball. Which brings me to Campbell, no matter how you slice it we overpaid, I am glad to see him finally get a shot that is greatly overdue, and he really seems like a tremendous kid, he defiently has the demenour that a QB needs to stay focused, but is he really an NFL QB, and when I say that I mean can he win a SB not just have some success? Well it's nice to see we are about to get our first glimpse of what's to come, good or bad at least we will have an idea where we finally stand at QB. If Gibbs goes into the front office he needs to find a legitamate talent evaluater! |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
its funny that the same article can attack the skins for FA overspending, begging the question of having more continuity on the team, and then it attacks Joe Gibbs and suggests he should resign
the media is overwhelmingly hypocritical, constantly suggesting things need to change whether its players or coaches or the front office and then criticizing the skins for making too many changes. They talk about how many qb changes and coaching changes the skins have made since 91 and they criticize gibbs for not replacing brunnel sooner and say he needs to step down as coach. Joe Gibbs stepping down at anytime in the immediate future would not be good for the team. Its time to stick out and not look for a quick fix. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
good post offiss. do you think we should stick with saunders since we have campbell at QB?
|
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
SI is a joke, just random sports writers trying to get a rise out of people.

Well who else could we go with? At this point we are committed to Campbell and rightly so. My feeling is we have yet to see Saunders offense, Brunell took the play book and simplified it to the usual throw it to the first guy you see, if he's covered throw it away, Campbell WILL stand in the pocket and try to hit recievers downfield, how well and how long it takes him to master the offense depend's, remember he not only has to get used to the offense, but the speed and tendencies of his recievers, remember we heard during the by week that it was the first time since he was drafted that he worked with the first team, he has a lot on his plate this week against a D as smart and as good as Tampa's. |

Wow, offiss! That is as accurate a post as I've ever read from anyone concerning Brunell, Saunders and Campbell. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
the fact that TO was not on the list immediately discredits it.
|
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
TO is catching TDs now (except vs us)
|
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
are you gonna argue that TO contributes more to sports or a team than Simeon Rice?
TO is cancer. He'll get back on his old horse soon enough... trust me its going to turn cold for dallas on the road and we'll see it again... He's worse than Randy Moss. Moss is a punk, but he gets in trouble for being honest moreso than calling out his teammates and coaches... I know I heard the interview about Mike Tice, but he was right. period. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
someone in our FO needs to go. the bad (and expensive) personnel decisions and throwing away draft picks has got to stop :/.

I think in Lumbardi's current condition (dead) he wouldn't be welcome in Green Bay or DC. |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
I think Vince would roll over in his grave if he knew people were spelling his last name Lumbardi, and not Lombardi

Let's say a nameless coach takes over a team in shambles, left bare by the previous nimrod. In addition this franchise has been down for as decade. A new guy comes in, acquires a bunch of new players and takes this loser team deep into the playoffs in just the second season. Everyone thinks what a great job he has done right? Year three comes, and a few parts of the team unexpectedly fail, star RB gets a fluke injury and is never right, QB has trouble in a new system, and defense unexpectedly struggles. Team takes a step back. You are saying in any other city this coach would be fired after one off year? No way. This is what Snyder would have done in the early years, but franchises that operate that knee jerk are usually perpetual losers. |

Really? That's not saying much, Both were fired, Norv did make the playoffs one year and then fired the next because the team was going backwards, sound familar? |
Re: 10 Guys Who Have Worn Out Their Welcome (from cnnsi.com)
schotty went 8-8 and got fired, and he didn't need to overspend like crazy for some good players and a bunch of bad ones too.

that list is stupid.
